The castle is more like a large mansion, with lots of charm, interesting rooms, and fun history. I liked eating dinner and breakfast in the large dining room. The bar area was also fun. Good areas to hang out in. Nice grounds. Nice park next door and we did waterfall hike at Brecon Beacons info center, lovely (20 mins by car).
The front desk was not staffed at all times, so they couldn't answer my question about taking a tour of the castle. And there are too many pictures of people getting married there, it is a nice idea, but does not need to be their decor. Needs cleaning up and refurbishing in parts. Small rooms, but ours was the new rooms, so they were clean.
The restaurant food was good and very good value. The staff were very pleasant. The shower was great with good water pressure. access to the free wifi in the common areas was very useful and free
The dog were allowed in the rooms and the areas near the dining rooms. The family room that we had was very close to the road a bit noisy. our room didn't feel much like a Castle.
breakfast large room size
rooms and menu also a cat going in and out of the kitchen
The Gatehouse was lovely, the castle very interesting, the grounds were enjoyable and surrounding area just stunning scenery. The breakfast was delicious.
Another tourist parked their car right up against our front door when they had ample parking in the designated area.
Staff were very helpful & friendly. The room we stayed in was very nice with a nice big bathroom & the location was lovely.
The castle itself is very tired & in need of refurbishing. We stayed for 2 nights hoping to have this as our wedding venue next year however the ceremony room was very cold & smelt of damp, plus it was very shabby looking with a dirty bit of red carpet going through. The conservatory area had a stunning view but again attention to detail was not good & the room was showing signs of dampness & again looked tired, the chairs looked tatty & in need of renewing, we felt very dissapointed as it would have been the perfect wedding venue for us. We understand that already they are refurbishing some of the castle rooms but i really feel that the public areas especially the wedding areas should be dealt with first.
An amazing building in wonderful surroundings. All the staff were wonderfully friendly and couldn't do enough for us. So friendly that we felt right at home straightaway. The weather was great while we were there, but we could imagine just tucking down in one of the chesterfields in front of the fire for the whole weekend in the rain if the weather had not been so good. Dinner on Friday night was excellent and the breakfasts were delicious. Really high quality and freshly cooked food. Three good pubs with food within a short distance for the days you want to eat out.
It was a bit chilly on Thursday night in the corridors when the heating was off due to the castle being closed. However, there were wood burners left with plenty of wood in the lounges and electric heaters in the bedrooms. The room that we were in was a little snug, but this is to be expected in a historic building that has been adapted sensitively to be hotel accommodation
We was very disappointed because in our room doesn't work heating and we was freezing. And in breakfast area was also very cold i eat my breakfast in winter jacked :(
the friendly staff accomerdation for disabled very pet friendly nothing to much trouble excellent food breakfast/evening dinner
