The staff were second to none - friendly, helpful and cheerful. They made you feel very welcome and as though you were the most important person there. We ate in the bar, but from the restaurant menu and the food was excellent - nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was tired and urgently needs a revamp. I wouldn't class the room as being 4 star at all. The bathroom needs updating - the sealant around the bath and the other amenities was brown in places and the grouting was coming out of the floor tiles. There was no sense of luxury to the bedroom - I would have expected this from a Macdonald hotel, having stayed in other hotels of the same brand. Also - the website said you could check in from 1 pm but when we arrived at 2.45pm, our room wasn't ready so we couldn't - this was a wasted journey for us as we could have gone straight into Chester.

Please note we (my wife and I) were booked in to stay at the hotel on a Sunday through to and including Tuesday night. At the eleventh hour we telephoned the hotel to see if we could, in addition, be accomodated on the previous Thursday through to Saturday night giving the hotel two days notice. The reason for the late request was due to a change of plan on our behalf owing to my wife's disability. A stay of 6 nights in total. Very dissapointed with our 1st night at a 4 star hotel room at £124-00 - the room basicall was appalling. A meeting with a senior member of staff in private saw the whole matter resloved in a very tactful and business manner. We were moved into a much better room and at the end of the day we enjoyed our stay. The staff could not have been more helpful or understanding. I would however question one of the female receptionists when speaking on the telephone who informed me that the room we originally occupied was one of the best rooms in the hotel when this was clearly not the case. I learnt later that that part of the hotel was awaiting renovation so why were we put in it at £124 per night

Suited our needs being close to Chester and family in the Wirral. Not cheap but with discount we felt value for money. Asked to change rooms when shower didn't work -staff very obliging. Liked fact that room spacious and quiet. Lovely breakfast-good selection on the fresh buffet plus option of freshly cooked full English. For us the 'celebrity chef dinner menu' whilst good was a bit too expensive-only dined in 1 night. Pool and gym in adjacent building very pleasant. We would use the hotel again if the price was right. Bit disappointed as we pulled up- not an attractive building with first view of kitchens. Had expected more of the country house feel with impressive entrance and comfy sofas in the lounge.

Good strategic location for North Wales and the North West, easy parking, easy to find, quiet, nice size room, good facilities. Room could do with more lighting - I.E. there was no desk light; and a couple more power sockets.

I am a weary traveller as work means I have to stay in hotels 2 or 3 nights a week. I am not often impressed, but I certainly was this time. Excellent sttaff, extremely good at engaging with customers, highly professionnal and genuinely friendly. The restaurant is superb.......food truly excellent. The hotel is a little dated, but that is unimportant when the overall experience is very good. Well done to all the staff at Craxton Woof. Nothing to dislike......a touch expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for.

We have stopped in alot of spa hotels, we a a mature couple now as the children have grown up and we both enjoy the leisure hotels now but we have never stayed in a Macdonald Hotel before we have hadn't been to Chester for a long time. So I booked your Hotel up on the internet. I must say we very much enjoyed our stay with you your facilities were very good and we both found the hotel staff very friendly and very helpful. We both thought the standard of breakfast was excellent. We have one evening meal in your Restaurant and thought it was very good. We would not hesitate to go to stay in a MacDonald Hotel again, in fact we are thinking of booking to stay in your Bath Spa Hotel

Delightful surroundings & peaceful, very courteous, friendly, helpful staff. Good location for our long weekend to visit Chester & surrounding area, good breakfast nice restaurant area & outside terrace. Good pool & gym facilities & very good value did not cost much more for 3 nights here with breakfast including than the Premier Inn not far away on the main road. Well worth the money & would recommend to others & would also stay again.

Location was very good We were supposed to have free internet, I had to go every day and ask for bt tokens and they didnt have any!! When I asked it was like the receptionist was paying for it her self she said "they havnt delived any tokens" and that was it, so I had to sort it out my self with bt every day I was there. The same was when I came out my room one day and the receptionist was chatting toi the room girls.I Waited 30 mins for her to phone a taxi in the end I went to my room and used the net, she was still chatting away with no one on reception!! Nice location but staff need training!!

The staff were all very pleasant. Beds extremely comfortable. Hotel in a beautiful quiet location. We would certainly return to this hotel. Put in a twin room but told they would change it to a double - this didn't happen. Some of the furniture in room 101 only fit for the bin
