Very conveniently located for the motorway - we were heading south, and the hotel was barely a mile from the junction. The young couple managing the hotel were helpful and friendly and eager to please. The breakfast was excellent and we were able to negotiate a lie in in the morning. The room was clean and spacious and everything worked. There were few facilities in the locality so not a lot to do in the evening and the hotel overlooked a caravan park - which was a shame because otherwise, the outlook was beautiful countryside. The address on the website was confusing and inaccurate and therefore the hotel was difficult to find. There was no obvious reception area for dealing with staff on arrival and departure - the large public bar was used for this and therefore there was no privacy or confidentiality. I felt the hotel had a lot of potential (beautiful large rooms with high ceilings) but needed to be updated for the potential to be fully realised.

This was our second stay at this hotel and won't be our last, The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is excellent and worthy of a 4 or 5 star restaraunt, (breakfast superb). We'll be back soon. If you are looking for a handy overnight stop this can't be beaten, (two minutes from M74)

Fantastic scenery, comfortable room and very clean. We were upgraded when we arrived as it was quiet, at no extra cost. It is one of the best night's sleep that I have had in a hotel. Very comfortable bed and so quiet. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast was good with full English, if wanted. We also had lunch and had so much we couldn't eat for the rest of the day. Good choice of menu and fantastic puddings. Would definitely recommend.

We found the hotel staff friendly and efficient. One staff member in particular who was on duty during our stay made us feel very welcome, was helpful. seemed to be everywhere doing everything, a gem. One minor complaint was he absence of a shower curtain in our room

The staff at Cressfield were extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel is an old traditional Scottish venue and it retains its heritage well whilst accommodating adequate modern requirements. The food was superb value and superbly cooked. There isn't a whole lot to do in the area but if you're staying here you probably have a specific reason to do so eg fishing or local wedding etc, but don't expect an abundance of leisure attractions. This however is as much an asset as a hinderance. The hotel we would recommend without hesitation and will undoubtedly be visiting again.

I was made to feel extremely welcome, when I told them I was away too early to have the breakfast, they offered to make me sandwiches and would leave them by the front door in the morning. That is great service. I chose the hotel due to 2 things, price and it had free wi-fi as I work away from home and internet is my best communication tool for my family. However the wi-fi connection was poor, unable to connnect for very large periods of time, leaving me very frustrated!

Without us asking, staff offered to bring our evening meal to our room as they could see we were struggling to manage a tired baby. Lovely food and catered for me- a coeliac with no problems. Friendly staff and would definitely recommend. Available high chair bit too big for our baby- 8kg 8 month old but would probably be ok for an older child.

This hotel was a real 'find'. We booked it simply because it was conveniently located for an overnight stop en route to Scotland but when arrived we were very pleasantly surprised. Our room was large and comfortable, we had an enjoyable meal in the bar and the breakfast couldn't be faulted. We are trying to think of an excuse for booking again just for the pleasure of staying!

A wonderful friendly hotel, with an excellent restaurant that serves delicious food. Very clean and comfortable room with small but perfectly adequate ensuite. We've stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels, but this kind of country hotel is so much more friendly and welcoming. Extremely convenient for the A74.

The hotel staff were friendly, the room was comfortable and the bar food was good. I had views of the countryside from my room. I would have liked a slightly longer check out time but I was able to stay in the bar area until I was ready to leave. Good stay would book again.
