Excellent,
Score from 155 reviews
Standing in over 30 acres of peaceful, secluded grounds on the edge of the Cotswolds, this beautiful country house boasts breathtaking views out and over The Vale of Cricklade towards the Wiltshire Downs. Built at the turn of the last century, the privately-owned Cricklade has been tastefully restored and carefully extended. Perhaps the most impressive addition is the magnificent Victorian style glass conservatory which runs the full length of the original building, making the most of the hotel's elevated position, with wonderful panoramic views of Wiltshire countryside. A unique combination of Cotswold charm and relaxation, Cricklade Hotel & Country Club offers a traditional, warm and friendly welcome for those in search of tranquility, comfort, good food and wine, with extensive recreational facilities. Full of promise as you drive up the long drive to the hotel building, and appears very welcoming from the outside. Inside it's a relaxed, informal, atmosphere, unpretentious and comfortable, with friendly and pleasant (but professional) staff. We had to stay for a second night which we had not booked, and the staff were very flexible, reasonable and helpful when I asked to have the same discounted rate again. Overall the hotel has character and personality. Good balance of facilities available but I didn't get a chance to use the pool/spa. but at discount price was affordable and superb value considering the generous cooked breakfast. Good quality and reassuringly traditional, and more than well deserving of its 3star AA rating. The lounge in the conservatory was fab with its enormous sofas and glorious views. Rooms were spacious and comfortably furnished, beds lovely and squishy, bedding was good quality and towels beautifully thick and fluffy. Food (breakfast and bar menu) was delicious and flavourful local produce, real bacon like it used to be, plump tasty and natural sausages and eggs with rich dark yolks, all cooked perfectly. Loved it and would definitely choose it again Nothing that I did not like. We had no complaints (our room on the first night had faulty radiator thermostat that made it too hot overnight, but we were moved next day to an enormous room in the Courtyard annexe.) My only comment would be that in some parts (ie our room in the annexe) the decor is a bit tired, dated and 80'S. Specifically our second bathroom had very dated coloured bath and was carpeted rather than tiled - quite off-putting and had the appearance of being grubby (even though it was quite clean!) especially in comparison to our bathroom in the main house which had been white tiled, bright and spotless. Having said that, I believe the whole place is undergoing a refurbishment project, so this will hopefully be dealt with - and when you consider the quality and value overall it's not that significant, although if I'd paid rack rate I might have found it disappointing.

We were two couples walking the thames path and of all our stays Cricklade House was the best, very good value and we all wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back for a weekend. Alan of Radlett

I enjoyed the remoteness of the hotel, the peace and quiet. The view from the conservatory was beautiful. Our room was warm and very clean and comfortable. We did not use the spa or pool,as we only stayed one night, and we did not use the restaurant, but the breakfast was very good. We would stay again and use more of the facilities. There was a strange smell in the foyer that was a little offputting.

location is in the countryside near a lovely village. 9 hole golf course next to the hotel, booking required at weekends only. We only used the small pool once but adequate for a dip. Hot tub and sauna available, small but nice. Staff friendly. Cooked breakfast was good and well organised even when busy. A nice touch was the available papers and magazines in the lounge, very relaxing.

From the moment we got there the staff made you feel welcome, and the hotel was very inviting, the rooms are well equiped and the swimming pool and spa pool very inviting after a days walking or shopping. The food was lovely in the restaurant. The whole experience was very enjoyable and would definately return. The bed mattresses were hard to sleep on and not what we are used to.

Welcoming reception and breakfast staff. The bathrooms have decent showers and I love the big white fluffy towels. Breakfast is good and I can recommend the spa treatments too! The beds are not the most comfortable I've slept on but despite this I managed to sleep ok.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was very comfortable, with a good restaurant and all at a reasonable price. Excellent value. The spa is tired, and could do with updating, particularly the steam room. The communal changing room is very small, and there is no spin dryer for costumes.

Friendly and professional staff, excellent food, very clean and comfortable room, good facilities (golf, snooker, pool, swimming pool). Could not ask for more. Very enjoyable stay. Hardly anything. Only point was I only wanted to play 9 holes of golf but had to pay the cost for 18 holes (still it was only £9 so didn't break the bank).

Lovely old house in glorious countryside. Comfortable room and good short hole golf course.Must comment on the fantastic quality of the towels.Great quality breakfast and well trained staff. first wedding of the year was taking place on the day we arrived, this put a little pressure on bar staff.Although this event was happening there was no noise from the group that night, which we were half expecting.

The room was clean with a good bathroom - pity about the view! All the staff were extremely helpful and the location was quiet, There are good leisure facilities. My husband and I chose it from a list of 'bargain one-nighters' knowing that the area is interesting. We particularly liked our short stay in Malmesbury with its wonderful Norman abbey before going to the hotel for a swim, drinks and dinner. The view of the car park.

From the time we checked in, the staff were very attentive and helpful, our room was spotlessly clean and exceeded our expectations. Booked it as a late bargain weekend break and we had full value for money. We couldn't find fault in anything, and have already recommended it to work colleagues, can't wait to go back!

Very good trip, booked due to the fact the hotel had a snooker table, as well as a swimming pool and 9 hole golf course! Brilliant leisure facilities. Rooms were of a good size and very clean. The breakfast was a good choice and cooked nice and fresh. Especially appreciated the fact the eggs always came with runny yolks as in so many placed the eggs are rock solid! A very nice hotel well worth going to and we will definately return. Unfortunately the swimming pool was closed for part of our trip due to the fact they were painting the ceiling but it was open for part of the time and was of a good size for a hotel. The bar menu was nicely cooked but the portion of extra chips we ordered was over priced and we only had about seven chips for £2 odd!
