Wonderful,
Score from 75 reviews
This beautiful country house from 1861, set in 28 acres of wonderful gardens, has 4 Red Stars (AA) and 4 Gold Stars (Visit Scotland) for affordable luxury 19 miles from Edinburgh. Despite its peaceful rural location, Cringletie House is only about a 30 minute drive from Edinburgh and Edinburgh Airport. The convenient, yet secluded location makes the small country-house hotel ideal for a relaxing or romantic break. With its 4 Red Stars, Cringletie House is the only AA-rated top hotel in the Scottish Borders. The restaurant with hand-painted ceiling provides excellent fine dining. The menu changes seasonally to reflect the finest, freshest produce available locally. Many dishes feature ingredients from the hotels 400-year-old walled kitchen garden. The idyllic location and beautifully furnished accommodation makes the hotel a superb base for the Tweed Valley. The staff could not do enough. They were attentive and looked only to your enjoyment of your time there. My wife is vegetarian and she did not like the vegetarian option on the menu. The staff made a lovely salad for her and served it in the residents bar. They were on hand at any time to help us and make our stay enjoyable. The public rooms are beautiful. The grounds are lovely with plenty of space to walk. We took our dog and the staff made a fuss over her and let her in to the bar area to sit with us at night. All in all we had a lovely stay. If you are over 6 ft tall be prepared to duck in and out of the bathroom if you are in the classic rooms and at the top of the house. However it is part of the character of the house

I visited Cringletie House with my mother as an early birthday present. We had a fantastic break - everything about the hotel ie staff, room, food etc were excellent, All the staff were professional, helpful and friendly - nothing was too much bother to them.

Charming and attentive staff. Excellent service. Very comfortable rooms. Delicious food. Also enjoyed the putting course. I would prefer a kettle to the tea and coffee machine in the room. Otherwise absolutely excellent.

My husband and I had spent our first night at the hotel 25 years ago after getting married in Edinburg . We wanted to have a trip down memory lane as it was our silver wedding. We were not disappointed the staff and the romance of the building were as we remembered but better and we would happily recommend this hotel to our friends for a romantic get away.

Our bedroom was lovely. The bar was cosy. The front of house staff were excellent. Nice grounds. I thought the atmosphere in the dining room was a bit too 'formal' It needed slightly louder background music, I think, so that diners didn't feel they had to speak in whispers. There was obviously a staffing shortage. Crockery and glasses not cleared away quickly in the bar. On our first night we rang for attendance in the bar - no-one came. Had to go to get FOH staff who then sent for someone who was slow to arrive. We reserved a table for 7:30 but weren't called through until almost an hour later.

You are made welcome and feel comfortable as soon as you enter the hotel. My wife is disabled,we have stayed in many hotels offering facilities for wheelchair users but none have come near to the facilities we were delighted to find at Cringletie. The room was near perfect, among other things, it included two electric adjustable armchairs along with two electrically adjustable beds We are certainly expecting to return.

Beutiful old Scotish Castle-style country house set in own secluded, weel-kept grounds. Very impressive when first seen driving up the private access road. Breakfact was excellent and included in the price. Room was pleasant and comfortable but quite small and in the attic. Evening meal was quite expensive, there were 5 of us and a 2-course meal drinks would have come to well over £200. Caught a taxi into town instead.

The hotel was outstanding, the staff went over and above. A great place to relax and enjoy the country side plus with Edinburgh only a short journey away you get the best of both worlds.

Beautifully quiet and green location, lovely grounds with sheep grazing just beyond the garden, woodland walks, fabulous furnishings and restful stay. The staff made every effort to be accommodating. Beautiful room but the standard double bed was rather small. However, the duty manager immediately relocated us to a larger room at no extra charge.

We were hugely impresssed with Cringletie House. We knew from the reviews that is would be good but have to say it far excelled that. Top class service and stylish country house styling throughout. Lots of rooms for you to use to read a book in etc and surrounded by ample grounds to take a relaxing walk around. Truly first class!

“From the moment we arrived at the Horshoe Inn we felt welcome. Friendly and helpfull staff greeted us, and we were shown to a small but delightfull room. Clean and well equipted with the whitest fluffiest duvet ever. We ate in the Bistro and the food was exceptional, so much better than we had expected considering they also have a restaurant. The owner mingles with the guests, and the staff couldn't be more attentive. Breakfast was superb, so all in all somewhere we will certainly visit again when in the area, in fact we would probably go out of our way to visit again. So good to find a gem like this. Thank you to The Horshoe for making a night on our journey home so enjoyable.” Anne, Sunderland |
