Good,
Score from 98 reviews
Just minutes from exit J18 off highway M4, Cross Hands Hotel is a charming 14th-century posting house with a pub and restaurant, in the heart of the Gloucester countryside. The Queen stayed at the hotel during a blizzard in 1981. Now, its guests can use free Wi-Fi in the hotel's bedrooms and public areas of the building. The charming, oak-beamed Beaufort Bar has traditional ales, tasty bar food and an open fireplace. The Cross Hands restaurant is relaxed, spacious and warm, and its food has an excellent reputation. For those who like spooky history, the cellars were once used to house convicted criminals sentenced to death by 'Bloody' Judge Jeffreys. Hotel Rooms: 21, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns. Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 05:44 from United Kingdom.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Good, freshly cooked breakfast, although some of the dishes on the menu were not available. Country pub with reasonable choice of food for evening meals. Very small rooms with rather basic facilities. No other attractions within walking distance.

I travel the country in my job, and after 15 years of doing so I have never stayed in such a pig sty in my life, it was disgusting and should not be on offer from your site, please feel free to go there and inspect the hotel rooms for cleanliness and see first hand, the rest of the hotel is the same.

We initially booked for a trip to the Badminton Horse Trials. when the event was cancelled, we decided to come anyway and switch to a theatre trip to Bath. The Cross Hands was perfect for this. We had a late lunch in the bar which was very good and we were impressed that the hotel had upgraded our rooms (presumably because we had honoured our stay). Both the room offered to my wife and I (the Badminton Room) and the room offered to my sister in law, were very good indeed....traditional, stylish but with modern touches too. Secondary glazing was a little clunky, otherwise not much to note. Traffic noise was better than any alarm (full, sympathetic double glazing perhaps?).

Nothing Bad experience from checking in to checking out Overly familiar receptionist Poor facilities - had to use glass to fill kettle - kettle would not go under tap. Unsafe bathroom - shower floor too high and entrance to shower very small Mouldy shower surrounds Only 3 channels available on poorly positioned TV in room Staff laughed when told about TV Poor quality 'pub' food' and too expensive for what it was. No staff in breakfast room at 7.10 a.m.

The staff at the hotel were very nice, and the food very enjoyable, i have read some of the negative comments about the hotel and think they are totally unjustified, i will certainly be back again

the immediate attention that the staff gave us - relaxed atmosphere - comfort of the bed - food reasonable in price - dinner of a good standard ( recommend the pork chops) and excellent service delivered with a smile - the dining room is airy very attractive with tables well spaced - the breakfast was really excellent with a great choice - we did not use the garden but the birds in it were amazing - such a selection - obviously bird friendly. The parking was easy with plenty of room and so we found the journey from Bath easy and the going away near the motorway,to continue on our tour. A good example of a COACHING INN. . we would have liked a quiet sitting area with a sofa or two - the bar was friendly but at times it is good to relax other than in one's bedroom - the machinator in room number 1 was misbehaving as it made noise every time we ran the water either in bath basin or shower - we missed tissues in the room and the water glasses could do with being individually wrapped.

I'm a writer and was looking for a historic inn in a particular location, and this fitted the bill completely. I combined an overnight stay with my husband's birthday. The food was excellent and the staff attentive. The hotel is ideally situated for Bath and Bristol and numerous sites of interest. Marvellous. I'll go again. My only grizzle is that no one knew the history of the building. And not for want of trying. The many centuries it's been there seem to be a mystery, except for a connection with Judge Jeffries. I'd love to know a lot lot more. But I'm not complaining. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.

Stayed overnight in January while walking the Cotswold Way. At the price we paid this was really good value for money. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room and food were excellent. Couldn't fault the place.

Position driving home after visiting family and visiting city and being able to sit down and have drink followed by food at a resonable price all under one roof. Found our room rather warm and could'nt turn down heating, then again, rather be that way than being cold so only a minor complaint.

Friendly staff, breakfast well presented and good. Beds were clean and crisp although rooms are a little tired and need up dating. (Which we understand will be done in the New Year) Lunch menu was good and enjoyed. We would stay again and look forward to how it will look after the refurbishment. Shower was small and not friendly to use. Beds need to be firmer.

Staff all very pleasant. Food good. Good sized room on the quiet side of the hotel. Although room looked surface clean, the floor had not been vacuumed effectively - even bits of crisps not even under furniture. Bathroom floor too looked clean but I am fairly sure that it had not been washed down properly for some time. Lighting very gloomy - not easy to work at the desk. I have paid far less for far better - the whole looks rather tired and in need of refurbishing.

I didnt like anything about this Hotel, it was dirty to the point of being disgusting. I didnt like the filthy dirty reception area or the way I was dealt with at the reception. I didnt like the fly's in my room or the smell of damp as I opened the door. Ididnt like the damp patch on the floor that never went away and was obviously the cause of the smell and the fly's and I didnt like the amount of mould in the shower room (I took a picture of this)
