Cross Hands HotelTetbury Rd, Old Sodbury, BS37 6RJ Yate (Show map) Good, Score from 82 reviews“The welcome received by staff on arrival, also their help & willingness during the stay.”
Erroll,
Thame
Just minutes from exit J18 off highway M4, Cross Hands Hotel is a charming 14th-century posting house with a pub and restaurant, in the heart of the Gloucester countryside. The Queen stayed at the hotel during a blizzard in 1981. Now, its guests can use free Wi-Fi in the hotel's bedrooms and public areas of the building. The charming, oak-beamed Beaufort Bar has traditional ales, tasty bar food and an open fireplace. The Cross Hands restaurant is relaxed, spacious and warm, and its food has an excellent reputation. For those who like spooky history, the cellars were once used to house convicted criminals sentenced to death by 'Bloody' Judge Jeffreys. Hotel Rooms: 21, Hotel Chain: Old English Inns.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Good, freshly cooked breakfast, although some of the dishes on the menu were not available. Country pub with reasonable choice of food for evening meals. Very small rooms with rather basic facilities. No other attractions within walking distance.

We liked the faccilities in the room, but room too smalll and could have been cleaner. Restaurant and bar food good. Staff were freindly but Reception not always manned, had to search for some-one. The main problem was Disco on Friday and Saturday night, very loud , no double glazing or sound proofing. Also, noisy guests in corridor after Disco finished at 2.00 A.M. I would return if I knew Discos had been cancelled Faccilities and food. Also good location.

I travel the country in my job, and after 15 years of doing so I have never stayed in such a pig sty in my life, it was disgusting and should not be on offer from your site, please feel free to go there and inspect the hotel rooms for cleanliness and see first hand, the rest of the hotel is the same.

Absolutley nothing. I can honestly say without any conviction that it is the worst Hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. 1) I was not informed in advance that there would be a very noisy Wedding that night. 2) I could not eat in the Restaurant as the Wedding was being held in there. 3) The only place to eat was in the Bar. 4) The food was delivered from the back door of the Kitchen into the Courtyard - through the smoking area - into the Bar. 5) The food was not covered also it was drizzling with rain. 6) My room was a very small single room. The main window would not open therefore I had to leave the Bathroom door open as this was the only way I could get air into the Bedroom. The stench from the extremely filthy Bathroom was coming into my Bedroom all night. The paint was peeling off the Ceiling and the Shower was black. At 6 am on the following morning I had had enough so I left without any Breakfast. I am absolutely appalled at the hotel as I travel around quite a lot on business. I would never recommend the Group to my worst enemy. It was Disgusting.

Easy of access from the motorway network, lots of available car parking on site The hotel is looking tired and in need of redecoration and general improvements, reception was unmanned at time of arrival (15:30 hrs), and despite ringing the bell we had to go searching for any available members of staff. Room sufferred from noise from an adjacent washing machine which I can only assume was in staff/ower accommodation block.

Position driving home after visiting family and visiting city and being able to sit down and have drink followed by food at a resonable price all under one roof. Found our room rather warm and could'nt turn down heating, then again, rather be that way than being cold so only a minor complaint.

Friendly staff, breakfast well presented and good. Beds were clean and crisp although rooms are a little tired and need up dating. (Which we understand will be done in the New Year) Lunch menu was good and enjoyed. We would stay again and look forward to how it will look after the refurbishment. Shower was small and not friendly to use. Beds need to be firmer.

Location - central to my visiting/touring plans for the few days No real complaints- staff were good and helpful - food and drinks good - but my room was very small for a five night stay - it would have been acceptable for an overnight stop.

Staff all very pleasant. Food good. Good sized room on the quiet side of the hotel. Although room looked surface clean, the floor had not been vacuumed effectively - even bits of crisps not even under furniture. Bathroom floor too looked clean but I am fairly sure that it had not been washed down properly for some time. Lighting very gloomy - not easy to work at the desk. I have paid far less for far better - the whole looks rather tired and in need of refurbishing.

I didnt like anything about this Hotel, it was dirty to the point of being disgusting. I didnt like the filthy dirty reception area or the way I was dealt with at the reception. I didnt like the fly's in my room or the smell of damp as I opened the door. Ididnt like the damp patch on the floor that never went away and was obviously the cause of the smell and the fly's and I didnt like the amount of mould in the shower room (I took a picture of this)

Just outside my room (no 10) at the top of the stairs there was a low ceiling - a drop down part of ceiling - about which there was no warning and on which I cut my head.

For a single room my bed was clean and comfortable The hotel decor is very tired and needs a coat of paint. Also the chairs in the dining room had their trim hanging off and evryhting looked shabby.

Breakfast was a vast improvement to the Dinner. I found the bathroom area less then appealing in need of redecoration as did the room. I found the stains on the carpet poor. The evening menu was confusing as the lunch menu was the only one on show. The ploughmans delivered was fine except the sour apple which again was not clean and no sharp knife to tackle it. For the money i was disappointed the hotel needs a revamp that is not the impression the web site gives.

The managers did not smile or ask if we had a good stay. We were woken up in the early hours by wedding party coming to bed. Our room could have been better placed so other people would not have to walk past our room. Room badly lit and bit shabby. Bathwater running away made very loud noise. Have stayed in much better for same price.

Old and characterful. As a pub and pub diner it is excellent. For me location is excellent for both Bristol and M4 for London. Stayed several weeks ago and had a smart room and dinner that eveningw as excellent. However, the room this time was cramped, tired and desperately in need of a re-furb...whch is realistically my view of the whole establishedment (and I am given to understand it will beundergoing a complete re-furb early new year). That said i found really found the room poor value and certainly will not be back until after the re-fit!!!

Breakfast Towel rail in the room was falling off the wall. Ordered a Chicken and Chorizo pie in the evening and had to send it back as it was completely dried out, they replaced it with a steak one which was absolutely fine and good value for money.
