location . and staff excellent
bed awfull + generator noise . had to put a cushion under mattress to get it level
Staff help first class.
Shower in bath difficult for older patrons. Grab handles on the rear wall may help.
Room was spacious but a little dated in terms of bathroom decor
The window opened onto a flat roof where anyone could step into the bedroom as there are ladders accessing the roof from above and below. This meant I had to keep the window shut and the room was extremely hot. The breakfast was ok but the staff were quite brusk and didn't like ad hoc requests The buffet food wasn't replaced quickly enough and there is a weird system with toast which confuses people
Friendly staff. Food - when it arrived Nice room
noise from the night club opposite and terrace below. Very slow food service on the Friday - it had been goos the night before when they were not as busy.
The atmosphere of the hotel, not all chrome and plastic, the staff were friendly and helpful, the location is good, we found it gave good value. the plumbing however could be a little querky, but in some ways adds to the character of the hotel.
Great value, very friendly staff, nice food
Uncharacteristic room with book lined shelves. House breakfast - no need for lunch !
View over car park
Staff and food were very good
Room (26) was too small, very warm and in need of a good clean.
Location, friendly staff
Old fashioned decor and bathroom
Nice old building - lots of character Friendly staff - very helpful Good room - attractive, spacious and comfortable Good room facilities - the only place I have stayed with filter coffee in the room. Big bath! Great breakfast - good choice, well prepared.
Pick your room. The front of the building can be very noisy till late at night due to club over the road. Other guests told us the back of the building was fine.
Shower space not suitable as in eaves of roof
Location & facilities in the hotel were nice.
Bed was not comfortable so did not sleep well.
Location, character, staff, food
A little shabby in places.
The power cut or more importantly not being told that a power cut was likely as the town was being run off a generator.
I liked the location and the friendly staff.
I was not happy about eating food there (with the exception of the excellent breakfast) as I got sick there at Easter when I last visited.
location near to steam fair venue
twin room no bedside locker or light by one bed room ear lift and noise irritating overpriced for quality and size of room decor grubby looking could do with a refurbishment
Great facilities, loved the room and the breakfast was hearty. Staff were helpful and efficient. Room service was quick and most welcome. Would definitely stay again
Its a great location with easy parking. The lounge and restaurant are really welcoming and pleasant to use with big comfy sofas or arm chairs. The food for all meals is very good quality looks fantastic and is very good, and of course being a brewery linked hotel some lovely beer. The staff appear relaxed and friendly but very good at what they do. Its traditional looking but with a kind of relaxed laid back air. The rooms we used were all very good, well equipped and the beds are first class. There is just a nice atmosphere about the place which makes you feel at home .
Some of the decor perhaps needs a lick of paint but doesn't detract from the experience. You need to ask for toast with your breakfast - ok if you know but not if you dont.
location, great food in restaurant ,good beer/real ale selection
mattresses not the best quality. if only hotels would invest in better mattresses like premier inn.
The hotel lived up to my first impression as I saw the building for the first time.Comfort, cleanliness and good food made for a great stay.I would certainly return when in the area
Noisy at 6a.m.! The room could have done with a fresh coat of paint
The breakfast, it was excellent
Our room was not cleaned properly, dirty class & dirty cup& saucer left on the side. Bathroom not serviced properly.
The staff were very helpful despite a wedding being held at the hotel. The receptionist tried really hard to help......
There was a cock-up in the booking so we ended up in a single bed, not what was wanted with 450 miles to go on a motorbike. Not even time for breakfast as we were leaving at 6.00am
Great location.Friendly staff. Beautiful building and top facilities.
Location in a pleasant Dorset town that has not suffered too much from the influence of Dorchester. Staff were very pleasant, and it brought back many happy memories as we used to dine regularly at the hotel and even spent the first night of our honeymoon there!!
Sadly, the hotel is looking a little tired in places, our room had clearly had a water leak at some point, I do hope that there will be some refurbishment as the hotel is still rather special.
Superb bed and pillows, and the bed linen was very clean and smelled fresh. Really excellent breakfast. Bathroom and bath linen were very clean. The staff were friendly and really helpful. The garden is lovely to sit in for breakfast, lunch, tea or supper.
It was almost impossible to get mobile phone reception in the building! The decor is quite tired but that didn't affect my stay.
