Staff very friendly and excellent service Food was excellent
The television didn't work, the shower head was very loose, the pillow cases were shabby and bedding needed upgrading and did not feel fresh and clean. On arrival we had a very abrupt greeting by an elderly gentleman who did not appear to be at all competent. He also served breakfast with a very unpleasant attitude.
Very welcoming staff, the food and ales were superb!!
The staff including the owners were attentive ,helpfuland friendly. Organised our taxi etc for us and evening meal on friday was good. Excellent breakfasts included in room cost.
Begining to be a bit tired in decor and only one towel each which was not huge.
Pretty pub in a lovely village conveniently situated near Alton Towers. Pleasant enough staff. Breakfast plentiful and delicious.
We had to send back our evening meal as the pie was not even warm in the middle and the mash was gloopy & lumpy. The beds were creaky & uncomfortable and the walls so thin you could hear everything that was said in the adjacent bedroom. The water was barely lukewarm for a shower in the morning.
The location for Alton Towers was great with only a half hour drive. Don't expect the Ritz the rooms are small basic but adequate enough. Staff were polite and helpful.
Bed wasn't great and walls are a bit thin
The staff and hotel were fantastic. Location ideal for visitors to alton towers.
Wake up call at 6 am by the local friendly rooster.
pleasant overnight rural stay. The early morning cockerel call just reminded me that i was in a truly rural location and didn't bother my son and myself,it was fine no problems.Excellent breakfast also,it set us up for the day perfectly. Many thanks.
The old gentleman was a bit of a character(slightly grumpy) but again it didn't really bother us,, he made up for it with the pleasant breakfast service.
Food was excellent
Mould above the shower
The restaurant menu although limited in choice was good. The quality of the steaks was exceptional.
Our room was nicely furnished but was in need of redecoration. TCMF was ok. Curtains in the bedroom did not meatiness the middle and let in too much light. The Crown did not open during the day until 5pm. Not even for guests!
Friendly staff, lovely surroundings, great food at reasonable cost, will definitely book again when visiting York
The warmth of the greeting and constant friendliness of the owners & staff. Excellent food.
No Wi-Fi access
Everything. Good quiet location. Excellent food and drink. Friendly hosts.
The cockerel at 0412.
It was very welcoming an releaxing very enjoying stay
Location perfect, olde worlds inn . Brand new bathroom. The meal was good.
It's beyond tired, the facilities are poor. Paper thin walls.
room too small
The Food!! It was superb and plenty of it.
The room was a little cramped and decoration tired
Ideal location for those travelling to Alton Towers and require an overnight stay like we did.
Hardly any sleep due to cockerel! One member of staff, incredibly old man with a bad attitude was very unhelpful and rather rude, to the point we decided it wasn't worth complaining as he really clearly didn't care. We weren't given any information regarding the breakfast, and payment was taken using the card details used to secure the booking (without my knowledge) however other visitors we saw were required to pay upon checking in. Very disappointed and do not recommend.
Gorgeous food, top marks to the chef!! Comfy beds & quiet location.
Breakfast doesn't start until 8.30am which caused a bit of a rush as we had plans. Coffee cream in the bedroom was out of date & lumpy! When we told the owner out of politeness so he could change before next guests arrived, he replied "your still alive arnt you" funny at the time but not very professional. Other than that it is a lovely place to stay and this was our 2nd visit. Will definitely return, mainly for the food, delicious!!
Lovely rural village location
Double room the size a shoe box. So small I had to climb over the bed to get to the window, which opened directly next to the kitchen Xpelair. Dirty room, tatty and torn bed linen. Musty, mouldy smell probably from the mouldy tiny shower room. I didn't sleep in the bed I slept on it. I stay at 20 to 30 hotels a year and frankly this is the worst ever. I am absolutely astonished this is rated very good 8. I rate it 3 max. I didn't eat as I wasn't prepared to be disappointed more.
Breakfast Residents entrance Carpets, and rooms were lovely
Cold shower Bed that dipped in the middle Breakfast only served til 10am at the weekend
Taking our own time. Not rushed. Peace and quiet Enjoy the time away.
I stayed on a Sunday night, so it was quite quiet, bar staff were very friendly and the food was good. Very well located in a small village but easily accessible. If in the area for business or pleasure would stay there again. Paul
