Breakfast was delicious.
Staff were both friendly and helpful.
The whole place could seriously do with a complete make over. The room was like stepping back in time 30 years. There wasn't even a plug for the sink.
Rooms very dated and basic.
Dirty, dysfunctional amenities, scary locals in bar with scary dogs, decrepit interior throughout, Hammer Horror decor and furniture in room, green alarm light in ceiling on all night - even more horror atmosphere, weird food for breakfast. Had that 'Get me out of here' feeling as soon as we booked in. Never again.
Location and Staff
Bathroom facilities plastic covering on mattress
Lovely comfortable room, great bathroom, excellent breakfast and really friendly and helpful staff.
it was available!
In need of refurbishment
Nice bacon at breakfast. Nice toiletries.
Very very dirty and neglected. Carpets needed vac and cobwebs hanging in room and corridors. No hot water and very poor bathroom cubicle. Stained looking towels and filthy curtains. Sad because it could be a nice heritage style hotel/pub.
Nothing, we didn't have a chance to sleep there because the owner was drunk and refused to accept our reservation.
Don't even think of going there. The town is quite nice but the lobby is a bar with drunken clients en a drunken owner.
are you kidding
This place should be shut down. I missed the two posters in the pub stating no drugs trading. I think this was becuse I had to pass the people smoking on the door step without shirts and then get past the kitchen smell(that then stays with you through out the hotel). The room was at the back next to the most disgusting mould wall. The room at first sight seemed okay, but the bed bug bites have not helped. The breakfast might give you a heart attack. The staf seems friendly, but clearly a strong undertone of aggressiveness. We were advised by a few members of the local community not to request the last days money back because they have a tendancy to be agro. I would not normally enter a pub like this, I should have turned around and never slept here. Lossing the last night here was the best thing we did. This place has been reported to trading standards and should be closed.
Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff
Very cramped en suite. Bar staff patting dogs and handling glasses at the same time.
Breakfast was very good, though eating it in the bar - on a bar table far too low - didn't offer the best environment.
Very depressing, tired decor in the rooms - wouldn't want to stay in on a rainy evening.
Very nice landlady, helpful, with great stories. The Inn has a rich history and is a listed building. Breakfast was ok. Good location for town , culture and hills. Room was very peaceful considering it's above a pub!
A bit run down, ok as basic accommodation, broken door hinge and tap tops broken in sink.
We got a warm welcome from the staff
We were given the wrong information regarding check out and breakfast times, and when trying to check out there was no one available. When it says en suite bedroom, take it with a pinch of salt. Was more like a caravan loo!
the hospitality, the regulars and the food
To be honest I was a bit concerned at what we would find based on previous reviews. However, staff friendly and room clean.
Pod bathroom had a disinfectant smell. Would have been nice to open the windows up to make the room fresher.
The fact that when I was traveling to them I telephoned as requested to inform them that I would arrive after 6pm. I was told that my room was double booked and that they would find me another room at a different Hotel which was well below standard.
Disgustingly dirty; needs renovation help!!!
Staff were great and helped as much as they could. It was quiet - considering above a pub. Breakfast was good.
The room was a bit tired and generally grubby... Bathroom pod type concept.
The Breakfast, staff was nice.
Room was extremely small. Bathroom was a modular plastic thing in the corner with no shower door. I thought rooms like this had ceased to exist in the 60's, truly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
Location is excellent, the building is full of character and staff very friendly
Room a bit scrappy - drip marks on ceiling, toilet seat halfway off, but all worked
Lewes is a lovely town and The Crown looks a desirable location until you go inside!
The facilities were poor - the rooms barely adequate - at least the bed linen looked clean. Parts of communal areas had mould. A view going past the kitchen area reinforced my decision not to have breakfast at The Crown. Amazed that the local tourist board do not impose restrictions on venue and also booking.com Would love to return to Lewes but never to Crown Inn!
I felt the staff were all friendly and gave Some historical information about the building. I liked the location, close to a pre booked venue. The cooked breakfast was excellent!!! :-)
The bathroom/toilet facilities were unusual. It would have helped if the lights were brighter In the room, for make up and reading.
-Good location -There are a range of car parks (paid admittedly) nearby -The bathroom was huge
-Had tea making tray with kettle but no cups. -I stayed 2 nights and no-one made the bed on the day in between. This was a shame as it had been a warm night and I had managed to tangle up all the bedding. -The hot water in the shower was a bit temperamental and I ended up in a cold shower. I'm also not a fan of carpet in bathrooms. -Breakfast is from 9-10 and that is a bit late in the morning if you want/need to be out early. My car park ticket ran out just after 9 and I needed to leave Lewes by 9.30, so I ended up picking up something for breakfast from a nearby café as I didn't have time for theirs. The morning I did have breakfast, there were juice boxes (the sort you'd put in your kids lunches) and my breakfast was swimming in grease/water (possibly from cooking mushrooms).
