Friendly, helpful staff. Characterful building with some history and echos of greater elegance. The number on the key fob has no relation to room number. In fact there is no room in the building corresponding to this number. The small metal disc with the room number on is easily missed compared with the large number on the huge plastic fob. Why do this to visitors ?! Very frustrating. Lots of time wasted. The locks on the window were absent, despite the window opening out onto a roof with ready access to other areas of the hotel. Worrying. Dust behind the door indicated flawed vacuming patterns. Otherwise nice and clean. The post code and street address did not correspond on common sat-nav systems. This might be an error in the sat-nav, but surely the hotel must be aware and can clarify directions on the basis of this. Instructions for arrival by car required a different post code or address to that given on the booking form/ confirmation to be entered. Why not make this clear on booking confirmation? It took a long time to find the hotel, and then only after calling and being given a different post code to the one on the address. Again, very frustrating. The additional expense of breakfast made this quite an expensive stay. In addition to this, the invoice then overcharged for breakfast. This was readily corrected once pointed out, but appeared a worryingly routine mistake. Is this a regular scam?

The staff were great, very pleasant and happy to help. The room was advertised as a double deluxe room and it was nothing of the sort, I felt let down at this.

All the staff were frinedly, young and wanted to help. They were a credit to the management It would be much better if the breakfast was included in the price. The bizarre system of pay for a ticket the night before or on the day was complicated and not normal practicve

Staff were very freindly. When they saw we had a dog with us they changed us to a larger room. Getting into the car park was tricky but their directions were good - an unavoidable consequence of being so central in a historic city. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a wedding on that evening so we ate elsewhere but being so central there was plenty of choice. The hotel fronts onto the main market square and in the morning there were many stalls up for an Easter market which was excellent. took a while to figure how to work the shower, but it was fine once we solved it

Central situation Rather faded. Needs urgent major investment- furniture, beds, bedding, carpets and decoration. After significant refurbishment the Hotel could become very attractive.

Good hotel, well positioned in the centre of Carlisle and not far from the railway station. This made it an ideal place for the various trips I had in mind to do. The staff were all very pleasant and made my stay completely enjoyable. Restaurant provided a good range of well prepared meals. service was quick and efficient. Wine was available by the glass as well as by the bottle, an important consideration as I travel on my own and don't wish to down a whole bottle each night! A cooked breakfast was available ( of which I availed myself), as well as a "continental" breakfast which I didn't try although from what I saw around, would have been every bit as good as the cooked variety. The wireless internet that was available was fast enough to carry a skype signal without problem and didn't require any extra payment, unlike some other establishments I know of. I had a single bedroom, not big, but perfectly good for a couple of nights. The bed was comfortable and the duvet and other coverings were clean and warm. The bathroom was also clean and well fitted out ... everything worked. Generally a good place to stay , either from which to visit Carlisle itself or to tour the local area.

Architecture of the building is stunning. Hotel spacious - grand but also homely. Central location - you walk out the door right into the centre of Carlisle. Great views and glimpses of historic surroundings from different rooms in the hotel.

Nothing, wouldn't return I booked as it had a pool, on arrival I was told the pool was closed, I was upgraded to a superior double, which was in no way a superior room, I just dread to think what I was going to be in. Old, run down, bit smelly I would not recomend

Location Not at present. We have stayed at the Crown & Mitre twice before. Each time we have booked a Deluxe double room. 1St time room was spacious and lovely, 2nd time, a bit cramped but still a nice room. This time the room was large with a double and single bed, could be a lovely room but the carpet was full of stains and dirty, the bathroom had mould running round ceiling, the stainless steel at wash-hand basin was rusty, the bath was filthy and bath tap ran all the time. The beds were clean, and as we were only staying one night this time, decided to put up with it. I did report this the next morning and the manager spoke to us before we left. This was certainly not a Deluxe room and at £85 per night for room only, I would have expected much better. The hotel is a beautiful building but is long overdue for some decorating. It is a shame because it is so central but I have been in many hotels that have been more luxurious for less money.

Shower - no hot water. Food - salad was served via room service was off and black round the edges. Noise - We were in room 142 - diy or something like that was all day Saturday next door and some of the Sunday. Room did not feel very deluxe, it seemed we were given any old room.

Immediate proximity to shops and stores. Nice swimming pool Excellent breakfasts. Careless from kitchen regarding orders placed with waitresses at dinner. Menu the same for five nights, so ate out elsewhere several evenings. No residents lounge other than the bar and (draughty) foyer.

The staff was very helpful - the room was excellent value for money and maintained to a very high standard - the swimming pool was excellent - and just what i needed after a day on a training course - the only problem i had was on arrival was finding the car park - a diffrent sat nav post code from the hotel - but this issue was soon resolved via a phone call - over all i enjoyed my weeks stay and would use the hotel again. see comment above regarding car park .

Location, was very central we walked to the castle in 7 mins. Staff friendly and room was spacious. A bit difficult to locate the hotel, the front is on a mall and you have to park at the back in Blackfriars St. Instructions need to be clearer.
