In Edinburgh’s West End, the Cumberland is in attractive grounds and offers secure free parking. Princes Street is within easy reach and Edinburgh Airport is a 10-minute drive away. A full Scottish breakfast, along with continental and vegetarian options, is available each morning. There is a residents' lounge, a bar and a garden for guests to relax and enjoy a drink outdoors. Cumberland Hotel is set within 2 elegant historically listed Victorian buildings, with original features and large rooms. Each room has a TV and facilities for making tea and coffee. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel, with a regular service to and from the city center. Haymarket Rail Station is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the building. If your looking at this hotel then its because of the price, so dont think that you will get 5 star. A good three star is what it is. Nice clean rooms, friendly staff and a good location for if you want to use the excellent Edinburgh public transport system. The pillows.

I booked the Cumberland as it was a great price and looked alright in the photos. It was handy for the zoo one day and then town the next. There's actually plenty of places to eat and drink in Haymarket so we didn't necessarily have to go in to town. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the breakfast tasty. The room was warm and quiet and the on-site parking was a definite plus! At their current price, the Cumberland Hotel is definitely recommended and we would happily stay again. My only complaints would be that there was often no-one on reception (we had to search in the kitchen to find someone to check us out), the low water pressure meant a weak shower, and the general decor was rather dated. Having said that, everything was clean and worked!

The staff were very friendly, polite and generally helpful. The location was good as it was only a short walk into the centre and it was on a bus route so getting to Holyrood and the Ocean Terminal was very easy. The lounge was comfortable and breakfast was prepared freshly. We were unfortunately on the top floor and it there is no lift and there was no offer of help with our bags on arrival. As the members of the party are older people it was a little difficult for some.

Ok it is only a three star hotel, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was 5 star. I looked in a few days before our stay and explained that we were going to a wedding. We did not expect to have our room ready but the young lady I spoke to offered to have our room available by 12.30. This enabled us to freshen up before going on to our 2pm wedding. Excellent service! If I needed a hotel in Edinburgh again I would certainly choose this one. Good value for money. Very tight parking area but this was a minor criticism.

We had 4 adults in our group who were over 65 and I phoned the hotel to tell them to make sure that the rooms were close to each other.when we arrived, they were giving us a room in the attic that was 3 flights of stairs, the room was so cold no heating, the attitude of the receptionist was not very helpfull, the manageress was very helpfull, the beakfast was disgusting with just 1 mushroom in a plate, yes 1 mushroom in a plate. Please, please do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The location of this hotel is excellent for visiting Edinburgh and its attractions. It is also really good for access to public transport. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of choice and good service by the staff. We paid £55 for the night which with breakfast was about right for this standard of hotel. On arriving we were immediately asked for more money. This was to do with the fact we requested a baby cot and that the cot would not fit in a standard size room which we had booked (or at least that was what we were told). When we refused the proprietor checked our booking to see if we had actually requested a cot which we had. We were given a standard double which was located on the ground floor near to the reception area. The room was adequate and the cot was adequate although fairly old. As we were on the ground floor we could hear guests arriving at all hours throughout the night which was not ideal for our 14 month old baby. I would not recommend this hotel for families but as a budget hotel for a brief stay its more than adequate for lone travellers or couples looking for a cheap get away.

Cumberland Hotel was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was interesting (Samosa's and spring rolls for the vegetarians) - but good. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definataly stay here again. Very handy for both Princess Street and Murrayfield. 10/15 minutes leisurly walk to each.

Clean, comfortable hotel within easy reach of city centre and/or surrounding areas. Lovely family room which slept 5 of us very comfortably. Good breakfast in morning. Would prefer buffet breakfast but that is just a personal choice.

On leaving the hotel my car battery had died and I asked staff if they could help in any way although they were not interested at all and I didn't think this was good customer service. I am aware that they are part of a chain of hotels in the area and thought that someone could maybe help but they didnt seem concerned at all and I had to call breakdown out and wait an hour for this to arrive only to get a jump start. I had a good opinion of the hotel prior to this happening

Friendly staff, warm and comfortable room. Reasonable breakfast - choices ok A bit mean on the tea/coffee left in the room - 2 sachets of each. We both took tea which meant we didn't have any in the morning as only coffee left.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The location meant that we could get buses directly into the heart of Edinburgh with no trouble at all. Reasonably priced. The room was more suitable for a single person (the bed was up against a wall) and the heating was on a timer which switched off early evening, the room was really cold overnight (we stayed in January).
