Apart from the comfy beds I liked nothing else about this hotel I was given a room for six although I had booked a room for three adults. I am diabetic and had forgotten my medication so my sister came from glasgow with it on saturday evening I informed staff that as there were six beds in the room she would also stay the night and they added her to breakfast total for room on the next morning at breakfast staff on duty on 3rd july confronted me in dining room in an aggressive manner over number of people staying in room I was most upset as was my sister who had both informed staff on duty of one more person staying on 2nd july I am a carer and a nurse and this as my carers break which was totally spoiled by the manner of staff most of whom had a poor command of english. The fact that they spoke to us in this mannner in a dining room full of guests compounded my upset having worked as a nurse for 27 years I would never speak to a member of the public in the intimidating manner I was dealt with by the staff on duty on 3rd july and would never stay in that hotel again The staff manner as above and especially their poor command of english I suspect they may have been prejudiced against us as I had my 2 learning disabled sons with me one of whom is autistic and the other who had brain damage through a stroke at birth

Convenient for city centre, for buses, for Haymarket trains and for the airport. Pleasant residential area. Our second floor room was cramped. The en suite door did not close properly. Shower on/off buttons did not work. No shelves in shower room for wash kit etc.

It was adequate for purpose. There was nothing special about the hotel or the service provided. They took card payment at the time of the booking, not when we arrived at the hotel.

Staff where friendly and our stay was great. Good clean room with flat screen tv, nice breakfast in the morning and all for £30 odd pound. What more can you ask for. Plus its on the main road so very easy to catch a bus or only a 15 min walk into the main city centre. Will book this hotel again if I go back to scotland

Friendly staff especially Mexican lady on reception who was able to check me in earlier than specified by dashing up to the relevant floor to find a prepared room. Quietly efficient person and extremely competant.

Good location for the purpose of our visit In spite of the hotel facilities guide which said the bar was open till 12pm and that even thereafter staff would be happy to serve, the bar was closed at 10.35 and drinks were refused.

I didnt drink in the hotel as i thought the prices were a bit dear as you were only getting 25ml measures.

Excellant staff, very friendly. Good location. Internet facilities and parking very convenient. The Cumberland is rated 3* and only just achieves that. The large family room was very spacious but the decor is looking a bit tired and the room could do with a right good spring clean. Biggest issue would be the breakfast, full Scottish was fine but the continental choice was shocking. My Swedish wife and the other European guests were shocked at the choice, cheese slices and sliced bread is not a continental breakfast. We managed to get a last minute deal, which was a fair price, I would not expect to pay any more though. Overall the Cumberland Hotel served its purpose and I would stay again. With a bit of modernising it could be so much better.

The staff seemed very busy and not available. But overall, I was really satisfied with the facilities in the room. The room was clean and bathroom tidy as well. It was quiet and no one was disturbing us. If you are going to do a lot of sightseeing and treat the hotel as a comfy base to come back in the evening - this is a perfect place for you.

Cleanliness & location Corridor leading past rm 16 was noisy late at nite because of the woooden floor. It would have been better if it was carpeted.

Hotel a little tired but good value for money compared with other city centre hotels. On main bus routes to city centre. 5 minutes walk to Haymarket and 15 minutes walk to Princess Street. Close to Murrayfield Stadium.
