Just a lovely old hotel.
We liked the public areas of the hotel; the dining room is bright and attractive and the staff very attentive. The bar suppers were excellent.
There is an on-going refurbishment programme, but we felt that overall the room we had paid for as a "superior twin room" really was not up that the standard we expected. However, having said that it was clean and comfortable enough.
A good comfortable hotel. Good food and staff very pleasant. Good location for access to the Lake District. I am over 55 and was possibly one of the youngest guests :-)
the location near southern lakes, the grounds of hotel, the old world quality
just the difficult drive entrance
The lift was very slow and shook a lot
Breakfast in lovely dining room. Courteous and attentive dining room staff. Room comfortable and clean. Small balcony overlooking trees!
Lift small and noisy.
Location of the hotel, the view from room and the ambience of the hotel.
'Did not like' is a bit too harsh but the people (reception/breakfast area) could be a bit more friendly.
Views Comfortable bed Value for money Lovely location
the staff were friendly and tried hard, food was good
lift that sounded like it would break down and parts of the hotel that were very run down
Location - very nice area, close to the sea. The hotel's grounds are beautiful and the hotel building itself
My room was noisy - bad walls, old carpet, squeaky bed and floor, could hear people next door talking
Excellent breakfast. Beautiful location. Comfortable room with lovely view.
Shower in bathroom. Tired decor
Staff were very helpful
Hotel looked very tired required an upgrade. The reception was very dark and uninviting.
bedroom and bathroom were lovely (one of the refurbished ones I guess) breakfast was surprisingly good - thick slices of baked ham on the cold options looked great though I was happy with hot breakfast dining room is stunning, and is a pleasure to be in. all the little rooms where people can just sit and lounge abut are great - old fashioned hotel style where people are given space gardens looked great
when we got to breakfast, early, we were sat adjacent to the only two other 2 people in the whole room, because places we pre-set, which seemed to belong to coach-trip rationale and felt odd. the lift was ridiculous you need to make the most of that bar area. when I was a child my parents used to bring us here and that room was lovely and cosy. It still has the same fireplace but somehow the décor isn't making it work at the moment I am not nearly as mature as most people there (52) and I think you need to aim a bit lower than your current target (82?) You do have a beautiful place though and I am glad to see it still going. I went to the Grange the other year and you're probably right not to do that - too tacky, thiugh in the absence of a swimming pool you need to do better than the musty old snooker room for your leisure facilities! [I don't imagine most of your guests can even get to the putting green ...]
I loved the fact it was an Historic Site ?
Great location, old fashioned class
Needs updating a little
Staff and food exellent. Very handy for the lakes
Appearance and setting. Wifi worked well in room.
Reception staff were rude and not very helpful. Bathroom sink was a bit dirty and hair dryer didnt work. Not a great selection for breakfast.
Staff very helpful.
Hotel was tired, but having a refurbishment programme.
The view to the sea
The lift, it wants to be updated
The location was fantastic. As where the staff. The room was so quiet and peaceful. Great breakfast Will be returning as soon as we can
Rooms Need a little reconditioning.
Internet connection Unable to get coffee at 10.30 Sunday morning with friends before departing
Could hear washing machine above the room and banging till about 2300 every night The room we was in could of done with some tlc wallpaper starting to come away from walls Tv only about 3 channels tuned in even after retuning
every things are good
it's a litle bit faraway from the city center
Position, view from bedroom
Standard of halls, common areas appalling.Carpet in halls, stairs needed replacing. Grounds not tidy, cigarettes ends in many places outside.
