Friendly staff, good value with full breakfast, lovely location and good facilities.

Needs a little tlc and updating but that's part of the charm of the place.

Our room was well appointed with four poster bed and excellent ensuite bathroom. The view from both windows gave lovely vistas of the grounds and beach. The staff were helpful and attentive. The food for both breakfast and dinner was well cooked and tasty wholesome fare. The dining room is quite an impressive space with panoramic views of the beach. The grounds surrounding the hotel are a delight.

There are areas of the hotel which are rundown, such as the reception area and elsewhere which require some refurbishment. The drive from the main road to the hotel has recently been resurfaced to the private house before the hotel. The remainder has no tarmac and in a very poor state. This gives a very bad first impression of the hotel.

THe location was exactly what we were looking for, close to the town and access to the activities we wanted to undertake yet far enough from the crowds. The buildings architecture is outstanding. Staff were very attentive

The location's stunning

It's old, tired, not terribly clean and generally a bit decrepit. The rooms are noisy (sounds transmit from other rooms above, to the sides and though the doors), the bathroom was riddled with both black (Stachybotrys chlorohalonata) and pink (Serratia marcescens) molds. The bathroom ceiling had tide marks caused by leaks from above and the shower rail had fallen from the plasterwork. John Logi Baird would've recognised the tv set and the windows wouldn't seal or indeed open properly. The (probably once quite beautiful) coppiced woods have been let to run wild which restricts the view across the bay. Most of the clientèle are coach-trip-imprisoned blue rinse brigade, shuffling around the lakes waiting for the be-cloaked man with the scythe. Roy Kinnear's character from the film Juggernaut appears to the staff recruiting template. Avoid.

Bed was uncomfortable and parking was a free for all.

Comfortable and clean. Waiting staff friendly. Lots a space for children to run around. With an update had hotel would be amazing.

The hotel is very tired and needs updating. The gardens are a mess and its such a shame because the could be so lovely.

Severely potholed drive...teeth still rattling! Much water wastage waiting for hot water to eventually reach basin and bath. Non access to large tv for major sports event during our stay. (Wales v England Rugby)

Was a lovely hotel! Staff were very friendly. Lovely Breakfast!

We are in our 30's and were the youngest couple by far there! May have just been a group event but certainly felt young!

All the staff I met were exceptionally helpful and considerate. The hillside setting of the hotel is lovely. I had a room which looks over the estuary and bay. The room was comfortable, warm and cosy. The ensuite was clean and updated, with both a bath and a shower. The food was good and well-presented in a bright and airy dining room.

That my stay was so short - only one night!

The views over the bay were fantastic, the dining room was spacious and all the staff were most helpful. There were intimate places all over the hotel where one could sit and relax and be quite. The hotel was kept nice and warm day and night.

Having to go home... the stay was too short.

Generous with heating during the cold weather, room nice and warm. Nice big/spacious dining areas, not on top of each other when eating. Nice views over the bay too! Plenty of car space.

I liked the whole experience of my hotel stay everything was to my satisfaction I would Definetly book again to go a really enjoyable visit all the staff were very friendly.

Good "old fashioned" standards, including staff attention

My stay was from 9.30 pm one day and leaving at 9.00 am the following day so my experience was limited.

The room and bathroom was clean. The main reception was grand and up to the hotels name, . As mentioned, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. The views from the breakfast lounge were amazing as the sun rose.

The hotel is huge, and clearly too big to maintain properly. The bathroom was a little tired and could do with renovating. The corridors leading up the rooms were very very tatty and definitely need updating.

It was very interesting to stay one night in a grand hotel from a bygone era. The dining room is spectacularly big with Victorian columns and huge windows overlooking the estuary.

The hotel is extremely run-down and, given its huge size, would require several millions spending on it to bring it up to modern standards.
