Very good,
Score from 50 reviews
“Healthy cooked breakfast was served, no oil or fat, a big plus in my view. The owners are very helpful and friendly, I would definitely stay there again. The free parking was a big bonus being so close to York centre.”

The Dairy is a lovingly restored and upgraded Victorian townhouse, keeping its 19th-century character and original features. In central York, Dairy Guest House is less than 330 yards south of the medieval city walls. It is an easy walk from York's many attractions and museums. Each individually styled room has a TV with DVD, hot-drink facilities, mineral water, hairdryer and alarm clock. You will also find toiletries and information folders. Some rooms have ceiling fans. Dairy Guest House was originally a family home and joinery business, built in 1890. It then became a dairy for many years, until being turned into a guest house in 1978. The owners were very friendly. Room clean, convenient and quiet with lots of "home comforts" such as tea, coffee and biscuits to hand. Very satisfying menu with lots of choice and the chance to pick something different each morning. Very centrally located for shops, sightseeing and attractions such a Jorvik Centre, and museums and the famous city walls. Easily accessible from main roads into town. Convenient parking on the doorstep with no worries about getting a parking ticket.

Very comfortable, warm welcome, excellent breakfast with vegetarian options, near to the town centre. My particular room (2) was rather noisy, especially with the windows open, the bed was both very comfortable and probably a little too big for the room as you had little room to pass between it and the toilet.

Sight Seeing in York The hotel is situated next to a supermarket, which had deliveries early in the mornings. The supermarket store rooms were next to the bedroom and you could hear the delivery trollies being wheeled about,

Good location for visiting York city - about 15 minute walk into centre of York, Breakfast was very good with good choice of starters and for main cooked breakfast. Our room however was dusty in places and in need of a facelift - not what we expected for the price, The en suite bathroom was an elbow breaker if you weren't very careful - in other words extremely small ! Our room.

Owner is very friendly and gives you a warm welcome. Room had beautiful decoration and facilities: Tea - coffee maker, biscuits, mineral water, a chocolate mint. Breakfast is good too. Small supermarket, shops, pub and restaurant all nearby. Very recommendable! Wifi didn't work and was important for me. You can catch a signal of a BT hotspot nearby and pay for it (5 pounds for 24 hours)

The family run hotel was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. The room was very clean and comfortable with a nice selection of drinks and biscuits which were replenished daily and the bed was nice and big. The breakfast was one of the nicest i have ever had in a hotel, it was far tastier than the full English served in the London Waldorf ! The hotel was situated farther from the town centre than i had anticipated which wouldn't be a problem for most people but i have arthritis in both knees so can sometimes struggle with mobility. Luckily the weather was good so i could stroll slowly and a taxi ride back from the Minster taxi rank only cost about £5 so it wasn't much of a problem.

As a family of four, I liked that the Dairy Guest House had a reasonably priced room that could accomodate all of us versus having to get multiple rooms. The location and parking were extremely convenient. And the owners had great information on things to do and places to eat. The breakfast they provided was both plentiful and delicious.

The location of this b & b to the centre of York was great - a short walk. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very good. We had a family room. It was a little compact but comfortable. However, the bathroom was very tight. The shower had little water and was so small you couldn't bend over to pick up soap or shampoo. We were quite cold I'm the room but the heating was on a central timer so we had to ask for the heating to be turned on.

We found the owners really lovely and friendly. We had the four poster room which was a bit tight for space but the bed was comfy and we had a great nights sleep. The walk to the city was approx 15 mins. so nice and handy for walking in to the city for shopping and to the restaurants and pubs at night. All in all we had a fantastic weekend and would definately recommend to friends and we will be back soon.

Nice hotel, good breakfast and the ones that have this small establishment are very friendly... Loads of dust under the bed. The bathroom is built inside the room. Kind of strange solution... Already mold in the corners in this newly made bathroom!

“I liked the fact I was made to feel welcome and everything was explained to me clearly which was good as I was staying on my own. It is ideally situated for a short walk into town which was an obvious bonus. The assistant manager was very friendly at breakfast and she made sure I was well catered for. The room was clean and warm and the ensuite was lovely as it contained a bath. I slept very well as there didn't seem to be any noise outside. I will definitely stay there again when I'm next in York.” Sandra, Longfield |
