Set in beautiful grounds, Burnside Hotel has a recreation center with a swimming pool, spa bath and sauna. The lounges and outdoor terraces offer stunning views of Lake Windermere.
Score from 331 reviews Very good
In beautiful Grasmere, Rothay Garden is a luxurious 4-star hotel with a stylish 2 AA-Rosette restaurant, stunning designer rooms and a riverside spa. There is free private parking.
Score from 172 reviews Excellent
Once owned by children's author Beatrix Potter, this country house hotel is set in beautiful large gardens, just a 5-minute walk from the banks of Lake Windermere.
Score from 150 reviews Excellent
In Kendal town center, the Riverside Hotel is a 17th-century building with a state-of-the-art recreation club. Rooms have river views, and Windermere and the Yorkshire Dales are a 15-minute drive...

Hotel needs to upgrade their maintenance and cleaning. Our room was dirty - blown light bulb (not replaced during our 3 day stay despite request), radiator was filthy, towel rail rusty (replaced when we complaind) and soap dish hanging off the wall. Coat hangers on floor in wardrobe on check in. Mattress on the bed was "shot" - no comfort at all resulting in poor sleep.
Food Staff Comfort of Room Well kept gardens plenty of parking
Fine as a stop-over en route to elsewhere
outlook from room is poor and room not that comfortable.
Thoroughly enjoyed the full english breakfasts. The manager and his staff were very friendly and courteous. Hotel on the whole very clean, our room was comfortable and clean. Nice bonus to have the health spa and gym. Quiet location yet close enough to get to Bowness on Windermere.
Only drawback was the partition wall between our room and the neighbouring room seemed quite thin. Whoever was in the room turned up the television full volume and we could hear it every day through the walls late at night and early in the morning.
The relaxed atmosphere at the hotel, the scenery too !
We were in room 7...on our 2nd night the shower hardly worked at all .
Hotel setting very nice with pretty garden and pond.
Not very clean in corners of room and under bed.
Staff were good and the owner was a bubbly character. Bar food was excellect quality and bar wasn't extortionate. Location was remote-ish but not far from anything by car if that makes sense. Breakfast was genuinely one of the best I've had.
Not much. Our bedroom was the furthest away and a bit off the beaten track, had better finishes in other comparable hotels but the bed was clean and comfy etc and the positives outway any amount of negatives. Didn't eat in the restaurant as a little pricy for our budget weekend but sounded delicious
Surprised to find a 2 bedroom cottage for our family! Very clean Excellent facilities. 2 TVs, very good bathroom, closets etc. Very good breakfast Staff are very friendly
It is faraway from places of interest The postcode mentioned on Booking.com is wrong! There is no mobile coverage in the area. Call the hotel before leaving to get the correct address or your navigation will take you to a farm.
Staff were nice and friendly
I could not use Ipad as wi fi doesnt work with apple products. Even the receptionist said it was crazy and the owners have been told and done nothing about it apparently!!! A lot of people have iphones.
The room we stayed in was fantastic
The people staying in the room above were very noisy. We could hear every move they made.
lovely comfy room with four poster bed and relaxing jacuzzi bath superb breakfast.pleasant and helpful staff. superb views and ideal location to tour lakes .will definitely return could not fault
nothing to dislike
location,, food,, gym and pool area,, staff really friendly
needs a tidy up, handles missing on bedside cabinet,, handle on spa bath missing and bath panel cracked in our room,, seats in bar dirty and marked,, the interior need a good painting and updating
location nice and very peaceful surroundings staff very helpful .
The whirlpool, pool and the steam room have been appreciated after all day walking. Breakfast was very good (English).Location is countryside but if you go to Lake District you look for that. Friendly people.
The Damson Dene has lovely, clean rooms with spotless bathrooms. It has a cozy reception where you can sit and chill. The pool and leisure facilities were a lovely added bonus. Their breakfasts were outstanding. All this and excellent value for money. Plus, they don't just allow dogs to stay, they welcome them too - this made our holiday truly relaxing.
We had booked the hotel well in advanace but were only informed of a wedding taking place 2 days prior to arriving, the wedding meant that when we arrived to our room and weren't happy we couldn't move or upgrade to anywhere else in the hotel, this also meant that we had to park away from the main guest car park at night.
Not much I an afraid perhaps the grounds
Long list but avoid when a function is taking place the team can't cope Facilities Cold pool Contaminated spa - Unless you do green Sauna not working Safety throughout compromised with wedged open fire doors and damaged flooring internal and external Staff who just wanted you to go away rather than deal with a string of complaints Told we had to have a table on a Saturday night no later than 19.30 Room like a dungeon TV that had little or no signal The list is endless This was our last hotel for the extended weekend break and the worst by far Do not stay here
the bar area grounds
No beans at breakfast Sauna broke Pool was freezing Waited 20mins for a coffee at breakfast
Friendliness of the staff, location & facilities.
Odd bit of dating/lack of maintenance apparent, that if not addressed will soon bring down the hotel as a whole.
The location and peacefulness
In beautiful surroundings Friendly staff Great breakfast Great value Nice pool, jacuzzi and steam room Well equipped compact gym
Some creaky floorboards and sign of age but nothing to stop you staying here! Sauna was not working. Double room a little small but cosy! Cold tap in bathroom required turning 30 times to get a trickle!
Location was beautiful and in a serene country side. Also not far from Windermere. The room was well furnished, decorated and spacious. Excellent value for money for a family of four. Next time I'd like to stay
The shower hose requires replacing.
Convenient location for both the M6 and Lake Windermere. Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant four-poster room with views over the duck-pond and surrounding countryside. Swimming pool and gym on-site.
Basement room with a view of a wall and a fire escape. Limited menu choice and dining options. The family room bunk-bed which was not going to be used had been left with very dirty uncovered pillows and exposed mattress. Hotel generally needs a bit of redecorating and attention to detail.
Breakfast & Evening Meal was good.
Room 35, view of metal stairs and rubbish at back of hotel where staff smoked. Our room smelt of 2nd hand smoke for most of our stay until we asked for a room change.
