The hotel has excellent character, gardens and spa facilities.
Evening meal in the restaurant was quite bland and mediocre, lukewarm and lacking in taste. Cooked buffet breakfast was awfully poor in preparation and quality with very limited choice.
We had our wedding reception at Danesfield House 22 years ago and went back last weekend for one night. The hotel had not changed at all and brought back alot of happy memories. The young staff were very attentive and friendly and the Spa was an added bonus as this was not there all those years ago. We had an extremely enjoyable stay. Many thanks.
1)Spa was clean and inviting. Spa jacuzzi pool was lovely. 2) Room (suite) was spacious and beautifully decorated with 4 poster bed and magnificent views with an extremely comfortable bed. 3) The peace and quiet of the location. 4) Breakfast buffet was appealing and nice selection of cold and hot food.
I wouldn't give the hotel 5 stars because: 1) The staff seem amateurish; - reception were not very inviting and welcoming, then they made a mistake with my bill and overcharged me. When I needed to be refunded initially they refunded the wrong card; - I asked for an espresso after dinner in the bar and was brought a small cup of brown liquid certainly not an espresso. When I questioned it the waiter mumbled that it wasn't an espresso because the machine wasn't working; 2) Organisation - next morning the coffee issue had still not been resolved. I was told that I could not have a cappucino because the milk frother was broken. For a luxury hotel this seemed a bit below par. Also I asked for 2 poached eggs and the waiter brought me 4. 3) Spa guests should be advised somewhere prominently that they cannot hogg large areas of the pool because they "are doing lengths". The spa is simply not big enough for this. We got into the pool and there was a woman in there who we had watched doing lengths for about 20 mins already. She told us quite rudely to get out of the way as "some of us are trying to do lengths". It is a decent sized pool but certainly not big enough for swimmers to reserve "lanes" for themselves!! Please rectify!!
Main areas of the hotel are great, very comfortable and the spa is super. We were upgraded.
Booked a twin as staying with a friend, called a week before to confirm, mentioned it at check in only to be shown to a double room (but it was lovely & had a fantastic view). We were moved quickly to another room which was full of spiders & crumbling plaster around windows - not acceptable. The room we ended up in was nice. There was a smell of drains in the corridors. Bit of a shame as the hotel has a lot to offer generally.
Loved the architecture and features of the hotel, comfortable bed, spacious room and the balcony was an added treat. Great value to be able to use the spa facilities.
The main blind on the window kept coming off the Velcro attachments, waking us up during the night and then very light in the morning because it had fallen down. The other curtains were only decoration so did not close, so the sunlight woke us up early! Also water pipes in the bathroom woke us up as well.... Overall not the best nights sleep unfortunately :(
Spectacular setting with beautiful grounds and attentive service
No air condition in hot summer especially in bedroom. Erratic wi fi .
Excellent spa treatments Nice pool Great grounds and a lovely view Excellent place to relax and get away.
Beautiful location and Spa facilities. Delicious breakfast.
The space and the variety available at breakfast.
Our friends were "upgraded" free of charge and we were not. Prices are ridiculous with no extras such as hotel transport to town. No person to guide you i.t.o. what to do OR places to visit in the area, etc. No welcome drink, etc. Remember this is a 5 star hotel.........
Very friendly and helpful staff they couldn't have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. The view from our bedroom over looking the gardens and Thames was delightful.
Beautiful grounds and setting. Fantastic restaurant.
No hot water in bathroom. Our ground floor room was small and stuffy. View out to wooden hoarding and unkept garden. Price of room was not justified.
From walking in to leaving the staff was great. The grounds are wonderful.
Bar wine list could be better but you can order from the restaurant menu. Head office customer service was really bad but the Hotel staff was perfect.
The food was fantastic. The reception staff and concierge were very helpful. The spa was small but nice and clean.
Staff fantastic always there to help you with drinks bags or any problem you have.location really nice and relaxing place.
Found dinner menu poor had better in my local pub and breakfast the same better in a travel lodge big let down.
Staff were all friendly and efficient and very welcoming Our room was lovely with a terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens It was the perfect location for a short stay to recharge the batteries and relax
Bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Wonderful stay!
Was a bit pricey
Great hotel with large rooms fantastic setting and beautiful gardens. Close enough to London to avoid the city hotels. The perfect luxurious hotel to end a holiday.
The bar was too expensive for us.
Beautiful Spa facilities
Had to leave!!
Location, attentive staff, well-kept grounds, lovely views of the river, well appointed spa/pool
One receptionist needed customer service training, out of date milk in minibar, some furnishings a bit tired,12.5% svc charge added to all food & beverages
Location of hotel
This hotel was promoting itself as fine dining, and it was only after we had checked in we were told that the chef had left two weeks ago.Clearly they had not replaced him as the food was little better than pub food. The wine we ordered was incorrect and the rib of beef for two which was priced at £60 when served to us was in fact the sirloin steak. We did not complain, as we could not wait for the dish to be replaced. We have stayed previously when Adam Simmonds was chef and the food and service was excellent, standards have gone down hill massively.
Beautiful location, views from the terrace where we enjoyed afternoon tea. Spa and leisure facilites were a very good standard. Bedroom was nicely furnished. Breakfast in the Orangery was light.airy and generous !
Service was slow, whilst the staff are very polite there was a lack of "spotting" guests waiting for drinks or food on the terrace, and then we found that again in the bar before and after dinner. This didnt spoil our visit though.
Idyllic setting close to Marlow which is really lovely
We didn't done at the hotel as there are so many local options but for ambience, gardens, gym etc it's truely lovely
Very nice hotel, great staff, excellent restaurant, magnificent view, good wine selection, large room. A really wonderful stay.
Spa seemed separate from the hotel, vague and somewhat uninviting. Treatments so-so.
We had a really lovely stay at Danesfield House. We were given a most beautiful room in the tower overlooking the garden. It was spacious and really comfortable. Real milk in the fridge which is always a bonus! Breakfasts were delicious especially the home made granola/muesli. All staff were helpful and delightful. We will come again I am sure.
This is only a small thing but the wifi is hopeless. The password took ages to work and then when I logged back in it didn't work at all, so we gave up. Free and simple wifi as you find all over the country would be SO much better.
