The grounds, the scale of the buildings (but needing some investment if you want to compete at the top of the market), the friendly welcome, the Adam Simmonds restaurant, and a quality wine list with a good range of prices. We didn't have time to try the spa. Some of the need for investment in the building is showing, and I worry a little about coming for a quiet break when you are burstng with a wedding party or large-scale event.

The overall experience was very positive - the hotel is located in Tudor-style castle dating from 1901, amid a vast well-maintained park on a hill above Thames and with a view over Chiltern Hills. Hotel personnel is super friendly and super helpful - they cater for all, even smallest needs and make you feel like home. The hotel needs a serious investment into soundproofing (being in rooms you can hear what happens in corridors and vica versa), beds and pillows (feels like they remained since 1901)

I love Danesfield House Hotel and Spa. All the staff are respectful, warm and friendly and do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your stay. I get such a sense of well-being from my stay there up to 3 times a year. It is a real break which I look forward to and, which appeals to all the senses: amazing architecture, beautifully refurbished rooms, fantastic views and gorgeous walks, relaxing spa with a fantastic deep bllue pool. Attention to detail is everywhere and breakfast is sumptous. I tend to book a Sunday evening which is a great bargain - 2 pm to 11 am the next day and I feel I have been away on holiday!!

It's an incredible building and the staff were superb. They were attentive, very polite, not pushy and very welcoming. They are a genuine asset to the company that runs Danesfield. They mad a great trip perfect. The only suggestion I'd make is that there could be more information about needing to book spa treatments in advance. Guys like me don't think of that sort of thing and disapointment could be avoided if you help us guys out by telling us this kind of thing.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the decor is lovely. The bathroom in our room was very nice. Our room was small and the hotel was extremely noisy during the night with loud floorboards and a lot of noise from the adjacent staircase. The service in the drawing room was very poor and the prices are extortionate considering the very small size of the portions in the restaurant.

Family with young children

Ideal for a relaxing weekend away to pamper yourself. Not ideal for families with young children. The swimming pool does not allow children under the age of 9 and are no other facilities for children are on site. Very quiet surroundings, so can be slightly unnerving when trying to keep the children occupied. If you don't have a hire car and are looking to venture out, this can prove quite costly with additional taxi fares.

Beautiful hotel with wonderfully intact features. Room was small but it was a last minute standard room and the furniture was not the best quality but the bed was lovely, sheets great and the bathroom excellent. We had no complaints this is a beautiful hotel with amazing views and extremely helpful staff.

Grounds and setting I booked an executive room with views of the river. When we arrived at the hotel, our room wasn't ready so we left our luggage and went out for a few hours. When we returned to the hotel we was told our room was ready and that our bags were there. Upon entering the room, I was dismayed to see that we had views of the roof of the building (it is a very rambling old manor house). I rang down to reception and said that I had a booking for an executive room with views! She said she would see if there was another room for us. When she called back she said there was only one room left that had views, and would I like to see if it would be ok. (The reason that there was only one room left was that other people had booked in before us). I would have thought, that as we had arrived earlier, that our room had been allocated, and could see that we were booked into a executive room with views! The room that was shown to us did have views, but it was way down a winding corridor, then up stairs that looked like they led to the attic. (It was actually an attic room) No wonder it was the only room left. We took the room, as it was better then the allocated one, but I did ask at the desk the next day if it was an executive room, and was told that it was. I have my doubts as to that. I ordered tea in the room the next morning, and when we arrived home later in the evening, although our room was made up, the tea tray still stood on the landing outside our room, which shows you that it was too far up in the building for anyone to care!
