The comfortable bed.
The bathroom has no walk-in shower and as I am disabled I could not shower. The room had not a single drawer in it. To turn off the bedside lamps you have top get out of bed to access the switch.
Rooms, communal areas, service and food
Served post dinner drinks in lounge area at 10.15pm but log fire had gone out and the room was very cold.
Having made the booking well in advance for my husband, it was disappointing to be contacted a week before to be told that he couldn't stay there due to redecorations not being ready on time.
Everything!! Very friendly & welcoming staff, a beautiful location & surroundings. The hotel was stunning-clean and tidy.
Gym was good, breakfast good, parking secure, near to Thames and has beautiful grounds (in better weather I guess)
Very old building (good if that's what you are looking for, creaky stairs and landings, uncomfortable pillows, have to order the cooked part of the breakfast It's a difficult place to get to down a narrow busy lane and hard to leave due to traffic around the area. Heating leaves a lot to be desired and there are small extra heaters in many rooms.
We were attending a wedding, and the rooms used were fantastic, and beautifully adorned. The location is lovely high above the Thames and the gardens are well manicured and of outstanding beauty. The food served at the wedding was first class..
Service at breakfast on Sunday morning was too stretched after 9.30am (why not extend it to 11am on Sundays?). We had to wait some time for a table and even then items were overlooked. There was no encouragement to have the cooked to order breakfast - we felt it was discouraged and they wanted us to use the hot food in the buffet. We booked one of the cheaper (but still expensive) rooms on the top floor which was very small, and so hot we had to keep the windows open all night in November. A fault had developed in the spa so the swimming pool and jacuzzi were not available for use on Sunday (presumably until late afternoon at the earliest)
Spa facilities were great.
Very expensive for the standard we experienced. Our room was freezing when we arrived and were asked to wait in the room while tools were fetched to fix it... Dinner was very expensive and incredibly mediocre, in an area of England famous for its food I'd recommend getting a taxi to any of the nearby pubs instead. Staff had limited knowledge of the surrounding area and couldn't advise us how to walk to the river... And then the spa was closed on day 2 of a 2 day stay. Average at best.
The staff couldnt be more helpful and the atmosphere was amazing
They only dealt with one taxi company that i wasnt so keen on and felt were a bit pricy. One particular driver was very unnerving when driving me back to the hotel late at night or maybe i was on high alert when i was taken on a different dark empty route than i usually was taken on.
It was a beautiful hotel with fantastic views over the hotel grounds, beds were amazing staf all helpful and efficient overall excellent
Didn't stay long enough!
Wonderful location and grounds
we had to complain about the heating and water temperature in our BR, they responded that after we left they took the room out of service, which did'nt help us, To many of the staff were not trained and could not carry out their function
I feel that Danesfield House really need's a make over , it's very tired and the carpets in my room were dirty and frayed.. The walls had marks on and the furniture was a little worn...£360 for 1 night I feel it's too much..
The decor really needs a refurb...
The staff were very attentive and nothing was to much trouble, the restaurant was excellent and the ambience was superb, look forward to returning soon.
Found the beds to be uncomfortable and felt they were worn out so didn't have a good nights sleep.
Never fails to impress, the decor is lovely and the service is faultless.
Ordered room service - roasted vegetable sandwich - very small and perhaps not worth £10.
That the staff responded to our complaint and exceeded our expectations in dealing with the situation.
Unable to shower or bathe on arrival at the hotel after a long day on the road. Unable to be served breakfast in a cold and empty orangery on our one morning at the hotel because something went wrong with the order and the staff who only had us to serve did not notice and rectify the sitution.
The room was very nice and cosy and had a brilliant view of the River Thames.
Door to outside balcony had 2 screws loose making it unsafe. Sink plug not working properly, waste water not able to run away. Bath tap that works bath to shower control handle fell off due to a screw missing to hold it on. No plug socket in close vicinity to kettle. No TOILET BRUSH for any mishaps. All faults reported to check in desk.
The staff were very helpful and really pleasant..
My room was facing the inner courtyard rm 216 and i had no view… When anyone went out to smoke the smell would come into the room through the window.. I paid £334 and felt the room did not reflect this price.
Large deluxe room with view View of river Thames Delicious food in restaurant. Lovely gardens to walk in,
Shower head was too high for me to reach in bathroom Service in restaurant was a bit slow for dinner. Garden looked like it needed a bit more attention.
The hotel has excellent character, gardens and spa facilities.
Evening meal in the restaurant was quite bland and mediocre, lukewarm and lacking in taste. Cooked buffet breakfast was awfully poor in preparation and quality with very limited choice.
Was phoned 48 hours before arrival to be told they had double booked, and would we like to go to another hotel. I said No. The Wi-Fi was not working due to a power failure which was not the fault of Danesfield, but the fact was Wi-Fi was not available
Location, excellent for visiting the surrounding area. Nice grounds and private little areas to walk and sit. Great views of the Thames and surrounding countryside. Comfortable Hall, nice dining room and breakfast area. Suite overlooked the Garden with French Windows to own seating.
Fencing to the pathways overlooking Thames needs attention and in some parts looks in urgent need of repair, Some of the gardens look as if they are becoming tired and certainly the putting green wasn't 'perfectly manicured' Suite complimentary coffee/tea set was unfriendly in locating a socket to fit and perched precariously on one chair to get to work. Staff need a little more education in what was on offer. All in all they just need to go that little bit further to make this an excellent place to stay.
Given the wrong grade room but were eventually refunded. Someone else's bar bill on our tab but also refunded - eventually. Service charge in the bar! Foul butter at breakfast.
The food and drinks in the hotel were good and the spa was very clean. The staff were really friendly. The hotel itself and the grounds were stunning.
There was a wedding the weekend we stayed so we could have been unlucky. The hotel food service was extremely poor. All of the tables complained at dinner as they had either received the wrong food or it was of poor quality, (I think we were just lucky). At breakfast we waited for so long for our coffee and toast, when it eventually arrived we had already finished eating our breakfast which was a self service buffet. The room was cold and the shower was very low pressure. The bathroom was in need of maintenance as the bath was chipped and rusty in places.
We had our wedding reception at Danesfield House 22 years ago and went back last weekend for one night. The hotel had not changed at all and brought back alot of happy memories. The young staff were very attentive and friendly and the Spa was an added bonus as this was not there all those years ago. We had an extremely enjoyable stay. Many thanks.
1)Spa was clean and inviting. Spa jacuzzi pool was lovely. 2) Room (suite) was spacious and beautifully decorated with 4 poster bed and magnificent views with an extremely comfortable bed. 3) The peace and quiet of the location. 4) Breakfast buffet was appealing and nice selection of cold and hot food.
I wouldn't give the hotel 5 stars because: 1) The staff seem amateurish; - reception were not very inviting and welcoming, then they made a mistake with my bill and overcharged me. When I needed to be refunded initially they refunded the wrong card; - I asked for an espresso after dinner in the bar and was brought a small cup of brown liquid certainly not an espresso. When I questioned it the waiter mumbled that it wasn't an espresso because the machine wasn't working; 2) Organisation - next morning the coffee issue had still not been resolved. I was told that I could not have a cappucino because the milk frother was broken. For a luxury hotel this seemed a bit below par. Also I asked for 2 poached eggs and the waiter brought me 4. 3) Spa guests should be advised somewhere prominently that they cannot hogg large areas of the pool because they "are doing lengths". The spa is simply not big enough for this. We got into the pool and there was a woman in there who we had watched doing lengths for about 20 mins already. She told us quite rudely to get out of the way as "some of us are trying to do lengths". It is a decent sized pool but certainly not big enough for swimmers to reserve "lanes" for themselves!! Please rectify!!
Main areas of the hotel are great, very comfortable and the spa is super. We were upgraded.
Booked a twin as staying with a friend, called a week before to confirm, mentioned it at check in only to be shown to a double room (but it was lovely & had a fantastic view). We were moved quickly to another room which was full of spiders & crumbling plaster around windows - not acceptable. The room we ended up in was nice. There was a smell of drains in the corridors. Bit of a shame as the hotel has a lot to offer generally.
