Corporate feel of the whole place
Breakfast. Rooms warm and clean.
Radiators in bathroom very dusty and skirting boards. Ironing board propped up against chair in bedroom. Wifi intermittent.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and comfortable.
Some of the mugs at breakfast were a bit dirty and the breakfast wasn't quite the standard that I expected for what we paid.
Quality of the bedroom and fittings Very good bed
Bath water had sooty deposits. Poor catering in the cafe (Roundhouse): amateur service, very limited selection of food Expensive drinks in the bar. Bar service very amateur. Restaurant and cafe lack atmosphere even though they are housed in wonderful historic buildings. Poor outside lighting at night. Car park a long way from the hotel, especially when weather is bad.
Beautiful room and excellent waitress service in white heart. Lovely grounds and barn theatre, all v close proximity. Luxury for us who travel everywhere.
Evening food not so good as last visit. Breakfast muesli better homemade.
the hotel is in a perfect location and is beautiful
they emailed me 2 days before on my anniversary not leaving chance to rebook anywhere else having a party.. that didn't finish till 3 o'clock when check out is at 10.00 i think its a bit outrageous how you can charge someone for a relaxing break when it was far from relaxing, feel disappointed with the whole situation. the email i received was as follows on wednesday when staying on friday and i had booked 2-3 weeks prior Dear Guest, Thank for your booking. I would like to take this time to make you aware that on the 5th & 6Th December there will be a Christmas party going on in the Great Hall, this could go on until midnight with loud music. We apologise now if this causes any inconvenience during your stay with us. Please let us know if you would like to alter the dates you are staying with us. i think its poor they should at least leave a week notice so then people are not trapped in this horrible situation. wish i didnt go! to be honest didnt enjoy it in the slightest thanks for taking my money!
Had a good run round the estate in the morning !
Directions not great if travelling in dark
Friendly staff lovely place.
The room was very small.
1. smiley staff 2. cinema next door 3. lots going on 4. lack of intrusion
1. the pillows 2. lack of comfy chairs in bedroom 3.lack of info about the cafe on site
Space Setting Food Access to film Gardens
Lack of facilities in room - very poor wifi. No chest of drawers, no iron, no writing paper, no water provided. Television able to be rotated so only possible to watch it from one position in the room.
The restaurant and amenities available
A relaxing night as always
Location. Friendly and wiling staff. Size of room.
Only one chair in bedroom so TV viewing giving a crick in the neck! Bathroom not cleaned on second day. No shelf space in bathroom for toiletries. Food in pub very modern -- would have like more homely food!
The character, gardens and the estate is in such a beautiful location. It seemed like a million miles away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.
Bed was comfortable although a little short for my husband (who is 5'10" so pretty average). Nice decor.
We arrived in the dark & the signs for hotel were very poor. Lighting in bathroom was poor for shaving (husband) & make up (me). Mirror in bathroom too low down, we had to sit on a chair to see ourselves!
I had a lot better breakfeast in other hotels
A warm welcome from the staff despite a very late arrival time, a lovely room in the East Wing, and a great breakfast — all in a lovely setting. I only stayed a night but I'll definitely be back for future trips down to Devon.
breakfast was hit and miss, not enough staff ?
Staff were ALL friendly and very helpful throughout the entire complex, from reception to restaurant, cafe, cinema, visitors centre to the grounds and garden staff. Our suite (Florence) and facilities were exceptional in size, quality of furnishings, quietness and overall ambience. Spotlessly clean. The king size bed, pillows and linen were especially luxurious. Breakfast was great every day. Had one meal in the restaurant, which was superb. Five star quality food, presentation and service.
No fridge in the room. We like to keep some drinks, cheese, nibbles and fresh milk available, which we couldn't do. (We stayed 3 nights) Could not fault anything else.
we are with a group of 12 and everybody from reception, restaurant and housekeeping have been extremely helpful to make our 4 night stay most enjoyable.
Good bar and breakfast
We were not asked whether we wanted heritage rooms(which we didn't!)
As a lady of mature years on her own I found the relaxing environment exactly what I was looking for. The staff were excellent, just one thing, the round house did not really cater on a big enough scale for lunchtime guests, also the hot food was lukewarm. Otherwise an excellent stay.
First rate staff - throughout. Immaculate room and wonderful gardens with all sorts of helpful notices, I was once Director of RHS Rosemoor - how you manage with 4 1/2 Gardeners must be the envy of the RHS!
The two dinners we had were very well presented and served but the quality of the food did not match the price. Booking is a confused jumble of multiple agencies - would much prefer to be able to book with the hotel direct.
