I was impressed when the receptionist showed us to our room and we found all the staff to be lovely. The location was excellent. The well stocked bar (my husband enjoyed the real ale choices) and quality of the food was more than acceptable. My husband (a chef) was delighted with the full cooked breakfast. Excellent value for money and conveniently located as a stopover for our West Country holiday. Would definately use again. Well done to the new owners Evening service in the restaurant was rather slow, but I do appreciate the hotel was obvioulsy very busy on a Friday night at the height of the holiday season. I would have been happier though if there had been an apology for the delay.

Staff were very friendly - couldn't fault them at all. Breakfast was tasty, the bed was super comfortable and it was only £30! Room smelt a bit damp - I think because there was no vent in the bathroom. But just opened the window and that freshened it up!

The staff were friendly helpful and courteous. Food good and served attractively, english breakfast cooked to order and hot. Room comfortable and facilities clean and nice to have a bath available. It was a little difficult as we were attending a funeral and having Christmas music a little distracting but also helped to normalise things for us.

Excellent service and room condition. Just one point we were supposed to get a discount due to the fact we were part of the family celebration at the party on the evening of 28th october 2011 but were disappointed to not receive one. Paid £95 for our room for one night. Should have been discounted as promised.

The restaurant food was of a high standard, with varied menu prices and the breakfasts were very generous. The rooms were comfortable and fairly spacious. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It was nice to have biscuits with the Tea and Coffee in our room. The bathroom could do with decorating.

Convenient off a38. Had been to restaurant on route to cornwall a few times and found the food to be very good. Realised its unique position as a good base for dartmoor and surrounding devon. Our room was very comfortable (four poster very comfortable). Breakfast was very tasty. Evening menus were quite varied and again good food and presentation. Staff were very friendly. On reading synopsis of hotel we understand this is an ongoing project. Certain areas obviously needed upgrade and we felt more could be made of garden and outside areas. Glasses were left on tables in garden all night so maybe staff are short on the ground. I did mention to receptionist on our departure that the shower curtain in our room was far too high (or curtain too short) that it didn't hug side of bath and instead wrapped itself around me during shower. She said that no one else had made the comment before. Also staff came out to front area of hotel to take break and smoke when with such a vast amount of garden why did they not go out of sight of clientele.

The room I had was hot and just above the smoking area outside so when the window was open the snoke came in. If I was to stay again it would be conditional on not getting the same room. Wifi was bar only. The hotel looked as if it was all about the restaurant but the food was just ok.

“Staff were very friendly and clearly in party mood for the 'everyone welcome' New Years eve festivities with a local pub flavour. The Breakfast was nothing short of excellent. Value for money on New Years Eve and New Years Day was beyond belief. A great welcome back to the UK after 3 weeks in Asia. ” Ashley, Exeter |
