The warm friendly atmosphere with pleasant staff who make you feel welcome especially in the dining room. The hotel is slowly being refurbished but my room was warm and comfortable - more than satisfactory for an overnight stay. Will be booking there again

Great friendly staff and a good breakfast. Despite being a coffee machine that made strange noises, a decent Americano was produced. The single rooms are poky, outdated and have the odour of the last vestiges of when smoking was permitted. Not been decorated for ages. They are also relegated to the back of the hotel where the cooler system for the beer cellar hums until 11.30 pm and makes the rooms vibrate. For the price paid, you can find much better B & B at guest houses!

The tv was set with 5 standard channels which had poor quality. A funny smell travelled down to room when upstairs flushed their toilet.

Although the check in was not until 1500 they allowed me into my room at 1100 as I was attending a funeral and wake. Due to unforeseen circumstances I did not require the 2nd night and although it was way past the cancellation point, they did not charge me for the cancellation. In the evening, I sat chatting to the owner (John) a Portugese gentleman, and he bought me a couple of drinks< which I thought was very kind of him. The other staff, including the room maid, (Esther) were very polite & attentive. Top marks from me. Only 1 small niggle, and that was the hot water in the room was only tepid. However, that can be said for a lot of hotels. Either too hot, or too cold.

Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Very basic but it wasn't trying to be anything it hadn't said on the website. Very dated but importantly it was clean.

The location was great for what I needed, the room was perfectly fine for one night - very clean, with everything I needed. The food was excellent (dinner and breakfast), the staff were very attentive and helpful, and the price was extremely reasonable. As virtually everybody else has said, it's an old building in need of money spending on it. I'm not sure how easy it would be to fix creaking floorboards, but there is a lot that could be done very cheaply in the way of minor maintenance (wardrobe handles coming loose, sticking doors, etc.). At midnight there was no hot water in the wash basin.

The Davenport is an old Hotel. If our room was typical, then it needed urgent decoration. There were signs of "amateur" repairs.....paint on net curtains, holes in the walls etc. a hint there, use professionals! B ut, having said that, the staff were exellent, friendly, nice. The banqueting service\was 100% The food, second to none. Overall, We would certainly recommend this hotel. Good things very much outweigh bad things. Davenport, thanks for a pleasant stay.

Friendly staff, comfortable beds. It served our purposes as we were spending most of our time at my parents house. Our room on 2nd floor needed decorating and the bathroom was very shabby but functional. Someone screamed repeatedly one night but the hotel was apologetic about that.

I arranged late arrival which was no problem, nice reception from gentleman on reception. Good hearty breakfast on Sunday morning and lady got Mail on Sunday for me. As I was not leaving until 2.30pm the lady on Reception suggested I waited in nice quiet lounge to read paper.

We like this hotel, because of it's quiet location, but close to a main line station very handy for city sight seeing and shopping. The hotel is clean and cosy, and the staff are lovely.

The staff went out of there way for you, but our room was too noisy at the front of the hotel with the busy road, the room was hot and the bathroom had no curtain or blinds on it, so anyone could see you from the outside. Bed uncomfatable.

Friendly welcome, flexible staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed, easy to operate shower, attractive breakfast room, plenty to eat and drink. All in all, a good experience. The owner was a delight to talk with as well. Was a little bit worn down and old fashioned, could do with a facelift, but that didn't detract from the experience.

Friendly and helpful staff, good location on main road to manchester but quiet. Good value for U.K.. Clean and comfortable throughout with sports T.V. channel in bar. Could not get the T.V. to work in the room. Poor sound insulation, not only could clearly hear conversation in next room but could have joined in!!

“We were very impressed with our stay, enjoying a very comfortable nights stay in a lovely room, including a spacious bath which is most unusual! We also enjoyed a great meal and very reasonably priced wine. The tip is to eat early in the restaurant as gets very busy after 8.00pm. The nightclub has everything a couple or group could need, including pool table and quieter areas if want to chat. Overall an extremely enjoyable time was had! ” Clare, Manchester |
