Staff were all very happy to work at the hotel which is an excellent sign that the business is well managed. We will certainly visit this venue again as it was great for the entire family - a pity we could not stay another day.
Very noisy Saturday function! Enjoyment totally spoiled following a long tiring journey. Suggest you inform guests using your booking service be advised of this sort of problem. Unconfortable mattress in Room 26 !
Location excellent Outdoor facilities and setting superb, a clean Swimmimg pool, wonderful grounds. Good wi if reception and good food. (Breakfast only taken at this Hotel)
On arrival given ground floor disabled room with dirty toilet brush and loose bed light socket on wall. Had asked for upper floor , non disabled room. Moved to another room as per original request expediently. Room somewhat tired looking especially the bathroom. Flush constantly on refill 24/7 ! Light above bathroom mirror not working . , although this was fixed on request. Refused breakfast first morning 9.50 A.M. As too late. Yet Sunday morning breakfast carried on until gone 11.00a.M. Yet both days had same time framer of 10.00a.M.! No housekeeping carried out in our room on Saturday. Had to request clean towels etc at reception who were at a loss as to explain why this had happened. More three star than four. Would not stay here again.
The staff of the hotel were friendly and courteous. The room was adequate and certainly clean. The staff were very accommodating to our requirements and seemed genuinely keen to help.
I wasn't a fan of the mattress but I rarely find particularly good mattresses in hotels anyway. The sandwich buffet provided for lunch as part of the conference I was attending was rather dire for the money; in the hotel's defender it was a rather last minute request but I still think they could have done better, given the £8.50 price tag, which I thought was a little steep for some sandwiches and crisps.
Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Good breakfast choices.
This hotel was perfect for our stay. We couldn't fault it. There was plenty of choice for breakfast with lots of fruit, nuts and seeds. Continental meats. Creamy porridge and of course the full english.
The Coffee pot had no spout so coffee all over the breakfast table. They need to change them is our only criticism.
Very nice place - would stay there again!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay.We were guests at a reunion dinner, and found the hotel and service very good.
The dining room, gardens and other public areas looked impressive and it was obvious a lot of money had been spent on the refurbishment.
The bedroom, although comfortable, lacked plug sockets next to the dressing table for hair styling implements, and the bottom sheets on the twin beds were too short meaning they got rumpled up in the night. Some of the grouting around the edge of the bath was black and could have used some bleach, and the hot water was very intermittent. Breakfast was a so-so affair, the continental buffet being very meagre and the packet sliced bread poor considering this isn't a budget hotel. Waitresses should have hair tied back!!
the staff the breakfast the grounds comfortable room
Room 7 a comfortable room with a view of rubbish (literally) on the ground floor which we didn't mind too much as we got a good rate but a generator started up outside at 4am and whilst not too loud to start with it did wake us up but my 8.30am you couldn't hear yourself speak! Maybe we were unlucky but others seemed to have similar noise problems on checking out and were given a discount
Easy access. Friendly staff.
The wifi wouldn't work, and when you're travelling on business, you really need it to!
On the whole it is a lovely hotel and the breakfast was very good.
I travel a lot as part of my job so I am used to different hotels. Whilst I expect not to have the same comfort as home, I was shocked at how hard the bed was. It was like lying on a block of wood. Set the alarm for 6am, but was awake at 4.30 after a very uncomfortable night.
Staff were excellent at every level. Room comfortable and clean although slightly dated. I ate in the bar and the good was excellent and reasonably priced.
No ambience in bar dining area.
Staff were always most helpful and went out of their way to make sure our group of family and friends were made to feel special and comfortable, from moving the newly married couple to the bridal suite, moving tables to allow all 15 of us a memorable dinner!Towels werethick and fluffy and water always hot. The rooms are delightful, big and like the stately Manor that the building has been.Very enjoyable stay.Would not hesitate to rturn if in the area.
friendly helpful staff spacious room with lovely views Quiet location
Dining area lighting too bright. Lovely room but too bright for evening dining
Staff were friendky
There was a fight. Felt very unsafe and uncomfortable
Friendly & helpful staff
TV in the bar area - put it elsewhere, the area isn't designed as a TV room
Staff were very accomodating. Location good if you want quick access to m25. Pretty grounds.
Room was tiny and too hot - not helped by heating coming on - why ?? Ridiculous sized and noisy air con unit in corner of room. Shower was a slow trickle. TV alarm woke us with a shock early Sunday morning. Are these facilities not checked after guests stay ? Shame, pretty hotel from the outside but tired and dated inside. This was the more expensive hotel in the area, - disappointed.
Loved the old traditional style and ambience. Ate in bar. Very tasty and breakfast also delicious!
Our bathroom for family room was in the eves and awkward. Needs to update leisure facilites. Feels like lack of interest and uncared for. Trading on old reputation but in danger if falling behind.
The rear deck and grounds
Room did'nt get cleaned on one of the days. Room was small for the price. Expected a little more.
We rang to tell them that our arrival would be late, due to long traffic delays, and ask if we would be able to have a meal, they said no problem. They kept the restaurant open late for us. Excellant service
Great character inside, views spoilt by outside gym and pool and Stansted flight path
Problem with booking so had to move rooms to fit in kids beds, breakfast order incorrect
Everything that I saw
Having to leave
Lovely setting, felt very countryside. Room was comfortable though a little tired. Staff very pleasant. Waitresses in restaurant we're put in an awkward position by an argumentative chef but dealt with it beautifully. Two lovely girls.
Surprised not to be able to get a twin room when the hotel seemed quiet. Likewise we were very limited on our choice of restaurant times although the restaurant was almost empty. We had a food issue (over cooked steak) which the chef argued with!! Don't expect to be told my meal is as it should be when it clearly isn't. It was resolved eventually. On commenting about this on the hotels feedback form I have received no response at all which I find surprising.
