Staff were friendly, our room was clean and spacious, cleaning was done on time, breakfast was good, pool was OK The place seemed understaffed - while staff were friendly, they often did not get round to sorting things out when asked and there was a general feel that there were not enough staff on at reception/bar/restaurant. On our first evening, we had to wait an hour and a half for food ordered from the bar - and there were other minor points where we aksed for something to be sorted out and it wasn't.The bar is nice enough but quite small, and there aren't many other seating areas downstairs. It was our 20th wedding anniversary - and despite the fact I'd alerted the hotel to this, this wasn't picked up at reception or at the restaurant (where I;d said I was booking us in for a special anniversary dinner). It was nice enough, but we didn't get the impression of a high level of customer care.

Good countryside location. Excellent views over the surrounding area. Tranquil. For a De Vere hotel, disapointed with the quality and tiny size of the room. It's just getting a little tired. Eg had to stand on the window sill to re-attach the curtain to the rail so we could close them. Old creaky wardrobe. A tv without remote control was novel!! Queuing for breakfast?? In need of the decorators!

The hotel setting and surroundings are perfect for a romantic weekend. The quality of the food is very good and a varied menu. Facilites are very jumbled, hotel is a bit like a rabbit warren, guests found it very difficult to locate their bedrooms. Decor is tired but looks like modernisation may have begun.Hotel seems to cater more for weddings guests than visitors.

The attention by the staff was superb. Excellent service in the dining room and delicious beautifully presented food. Even though there were two wedding receptions going on we still felt as if we were very important to them. Would recommend this hotel but would suggest querying location of room first The location of the hotel room. I did ask if this was because of the allocation given to third party bookings and they did agree. Our room was lovely in itself, but there were four things which totally spoilt it. 1. Lift next to left side wall. This was going up and down most of the night due to wedding party and then staff earlier in morning 2. Fire doors by door to bedroom. Banging everytime someone went through - again throughout the night 3. Delivery area to kitchens right outside window. Couldn,t keep window open. Work there started at 5.30am. Deliveries etc. Voices etc. 4. Strong musty smell as you walked in - probably from bathroom

Its 4-star rating is justified only because of the golf/leisure facilities. The restaurant service was poor with unsupervised staff, who did not clear tables with dirty crockery, etc., failed to enquire if coffee was required and generally were not attentive. The prices of the menu were prohibitive for the standard of food (ordinary) and many good restaurants would charge half of the amount for better food and service. An overrated hotel not worthy of its classification.

This was my 2nd stay, after an average experience first time I thought I'd give it another chance: sadly the room was unclean ( lots of dead bugs on the window/curtains/windowsill, I was unable to turn down the radiator from 'full on' setting and the plumbing rattled every time anyone above/next door used their bathroom- on complaining I received a very feeble 'sorry to hear that'.... Not impressive!

The sevice was excellent, the quality and quantity of food was very good. This was our golden wedding anniversary. The choice of menu was disappointing - no a la carte offered. There was no hotel directory in the room showing meal times, facilities, writing paper etc. There was no shower cap for my wife. There was only one hand towel. This was not a Deluxe room or a Deluxe hotel. Good as it was, I would not recommend it for an anniversary occasion to stay. It was rather over priced.

Location is great. Sure it's lovely in the spring and summer when you can take advantage of the tennis and golf. The hotel is used for weddings and they looked like they provided a good service here. Thw public rooms are comfortable although it was impossible to find a seat at the bar on both nights we were there. There seemed to be a number of coach parties The bedrooms are tired and scruffy. And we were bothered by noise from the heating and fans in the night. Breakfast is great but we did have a 15 minute wait for a table. Leisure facilities ok pool is lovely but again very busy. I had a nice facial in yhe beauty spa. But it was overpriced at £55. I wouldn't stay there again as there was more wrong with it than right!

It was very romantic with a beautiful setting. It truly blended in with the surrounding area. The small pond and garden area were beautiful! The walls were very thin so we could hear people all night long - whether bickering or watching TV or having serious discussions, etc. We also think the room could have been a bit cleaner.

Food was reasonable The room on arrival had wine glasses / beer glasses stacked outside the room. The room had red wine stains on the bed sheets, there was paint missing of walls within the on suite. Damaged lamp shades, poor quality furniture. Dust on skirting boards. No chamber staff were on hand to assist. Were given a complementry bottle of wine, which they tried charging to our room on checkout along with some further drinks which were never consumed by ourselves

Pool was nice, staff friendly Price of drinks were unacceptably high. We had muscles to eat in the eve and most of the shells were empty. Very very noisy at night.

I liked the spa which was great. Also room was comfortable and location great. Service was excellent The only think that spoilt the trip was very thin walls in a hotel which resulted in one sleepless night with loud guests in the other room. You could hear everything from other rooms like a flushing toilet or any movement.

Big disappointment and will write to hotel group. No draws in the rooms to put clothes in and the room overheated so lack of sleep and couldn't turn it down - still hot after we turned off the rads. Warm white wine also served at dinner - Restaurant Manager replied by putting ice cubes in it!

Nice location No parking area for checking in; Sat before Xmas and 2 major functions on that night and only 1 person on reception; room in need of major refurbishment - no chest of drawers, cupboard doors would not close, lights not working; £4.95 for a litre bottle of water is obscene exploitation especially when we only asked for tap water - it was rectified; There was a wedding on Sunday evening and when changing the room over all the wedding guests went to the bar so residents had nowhere to sit and have a quiet drink and snack and it was almost impossible to order anything.

we chose Mottram as it was my birthday weekend & we had a great time in and around the area We carried our celebrations on in our friends hotel room & two of the hotel management threatened to call the police, which we thought unecessary and a little out of order.
