Staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Food was allround delicious with plenty choice.
Setting, quality of food, service, helpful staff
Would have preferred an indoor swimming pool.
location, staff, food and atmosphere.
Room was a little dated but comfortable. Bar menu could do with updating.
Excellent service particularly for breakfast, also only a short walk to the village
Having to leave
Deans Place is a lovely building, all twists and turns and right by the river at the southern end of Alfriston village. The restaurant was surprisingly good quality and there was a wonderful mix of the old and new throughout the building. Relaxing in the bar in the big armchairs, taking tea on the terrace are all pluses. Staff were very helpful and attentive throughout my stay. I used the hotel as the base for several days walking and it was excellent in this regard with paths starting right from the hotel.
My only negative comment is to avoid staying when there's a wedding on - if you can find out when this is and particularly if your room is near the rooms where the dancing is happening. There were two weddings while I was there, the first I didn't hear at all but the second was much nearer my room and I was kept awake with booming dance music until after midnight. If you come for a peaceful stay then you take your chance. Other than that I had a great stay.
We were in the executive room which has a great view and very comfortable.
Clean, very friendly staff and great position!
Excellent breakfast. Staff professional always offering help. Room comfy. Lovely location.
Windows in room did not shut properly.
The service was excellent they were very attentive. The breakfast was good with a wide range of choice. The gardens are a lovely retreat.
Our mattress wasn't the best quality as could feel every spring in it so a decent topper would help or better mattresses. We did think about going for a swim unfortunately the pool didn't look very inviting as a bit grimey and water looked dirty, a lovely feature which is under utilised.
Very peaceful location and grounds
Staff all very helpful. Room, bar, and lounge areas all very good, as were garden areas and heated pool. Quality of food generally very good, with the exception of one meal, ( Friday dinner - Wedding reception on at same time might explain it).
Dinner Menu didn't change - so if one is staying more than a day or two, lack of choice is likely. Pricing of Dinner Menu should vary to reflect food provided.
outdoor swimming pool
tiny bath and shower - I hit my head on the shower which wasn't adjustable and I'm only 5' 4"
Excellent staff, clean, attractive rooms, food great, drinks reasonable.
Good location near Alfriston, shops, restaurants and walks
The hotel is need of updating/refurbishment, the room was tiny and not very clean

Setting, lovely grounds, great breakfast
Very clean, comfortable hotel in a lovely location.Staff were very friendly and efficient.
Excellent location, very quiet but easily accessible to quaint town. Very comfortable public rooms and lovely gardens. Very friendly, polite staff. Excellent choice at breakfast.
Stayed at Deans Place several times but was disappointed this time with room allocation. we did not complain as had a " value deal" but bedroom no.1 was small and a bit tired. Bathroom shower would not be suitable for a tall person and dripped constantly. The toilet cistern was very slow to fill.
An amazing location and a room right next to the swimming pool
The ambience of the hotel was very nice with traditional décor. The food was excellent, although we were presented with the same menu every night which had several options to choose from.
Unfortunately we had room No 33 and the bed was not very good. There was a board placed underneath the mattress, which made the bed very firm. We were also placed next to the laundry from which there was a loud fan noise, which prevented us from going to sleep. We stayed for four nights and had to ask reception every night to turn the fan off which they did.
Location, cleaniness. Staff very polite.
Had a bar meal the first night. It took an hour to come and hotel was not very busy. At breakfast if asked for a fried egg had to wait at least 30 minutes.
Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful location superb gardens and grounds with super seating areas. Nice bedroom. Very relaxed atmosphere in the hotel yet professional. Good food.
When I booked on line in June I asked for a room without lots of stairs for my elderly mother to deal with, this didn't happen. She coped but struggled. Found it rather rude to be asked to pay up front for accommodation on arrival with no explanation.
I love Alfriston, the location, the walks, the peace & quiet & the lovely village feeling you get whilst there.
Deans Place is a lovely place to stay in the historic village of Alfriston. Parking is plentiful, staff is friendly. We had a large bedroom with beautiful views from a large picture window, overlooking the gardens and the Sussex downs . Breakfast is good too.
Nothing we particularly disliked, but perhaps check if the hotel is hosting a wedding, when public areas can be busy.
The quaint interior and rooms. Good quality food.
Staff were poorly trained in customer service.
