Helpful staff, instant up-grading, superb evening meal in restaurant, nice decor, comfortable bed, facilities in room. My room was cold at night the first night and the bedclothes felt inadequate; I'm used to a duvet that falls comfortably around you; blankets tend to leave a gap! Bathroom small and rather difficult to manoevre in eg getting out of shower. But I wouldn't mark the hotel down because of this - it's tricky making an original room into an ensuite.

Quite country location but every convenience and comfort; varied, extensive and well-kept garden; very friendly and accommodating staff; excellent food at a fair price Anyone over 6 ft tall will bump their heads until they take the several warning signs to heart!

We have stayed at Dean's place on a number of occasions and found it very relaxing. On arrival, we found the room rather noisy-over the bar , but we were relocated immediately.

Location, Food, atmosphere and room We stayed in room 4 and found it to be very noisy. We could hear people talking well into the early hours. Apart from that we had a good stay

I did like the staff; all very friendly and welcoming. made us feel at home. Breakfast was good with excellent choices. The room was made up very promptly and nicely after the first night. The room was too hot. I had to turn the heating off but it didn't really cool down. The bed was not that comfortable. The pillows were not good. They seemed old and were either too small or too hard. The bedding (for our double bed) was not purpose made so the blankets were 2 singles overlapped. The sheet was not wide enough. I did not sleep well either night.

The staff were helpful and efficient. The hotel is situated in a beautiful village. I later discovered that members of the Stopford party received a 10% discount on their accommodation. We were in the party but did not receive the discount.

Staff were supremely friendly and helpful; location lovely - just south of the village of Alfriston; we were on a walking trip and it was a very nice place to stay at the end of our two days. Wine list very good and bar cosy; breakfast/restaurant room lovely as were gardens (i saw a heron!) - we didn't dine here so can't comment on food. Staff exceptionally nice. First room was a bit noisy (above bar area) but was able to move without a problem; bathroom bit tight sizewise but v clean. Bedrooms very comfortable - we were in single rooms.

Brilliant staff. Low bedroom doors.Cracked my head several times. Need to see if they can be raised. Very restricted choice on TV. Why not offer the normal Freeview range?

We have stayed here many times and love it. It is our must-stay hotel in the area and we love Alfriston. We love the old character of the hotel and the comfortable lounge and bar.

Well situated in a lovely village. Nice gardens and swimming pool. Large parking lot but not in view. Staff in dining room was not so friendly and a bit clumsy. Quite expensive.

The gardens and public areas are well kept and provide a nice atmosphere. The rooms really are looking tired and could do with a refresh. There was also a rather unpleasant smell in the corridor where we were staying.

The service and manner of the staff was excellent. The breakfast and meals were of a high standard. The grounds held some lovely features. It is ideally located for wlks on the south downs way. My single room was very small and the bathroom very tiny.

Friendly, comfortable and reliable with well-trained, excellent staff. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the accommodation, catering and facilities. Warmly recommended. The internal rbedrooms are a bit 'functional' but are comfortable nonetheless. Ask for one facing the garden.
