Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town
The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.
Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

Harrogate is lovely and our only regrets were the food on offer in the hotel restaurant plus the attempt to rip me off when the bill came. And we would have liked a bit more time so as to visit Bettys tea shop

Harrogate is a very pretty town and makes a good base to explore the area. It has lots of good restaurants like Piccolino, The Tannin Level or Oliveta and many great cafés including the famous Betty's. There aren't many sights in the town but it's very pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the architecture and gardens. Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is worth a visit. Historic York is only a 35 minute train ride away and gorgeous Knaresborough only 15 minutes on the same route.
Still, you'll need quite deep pockets as everything is at least as expensive as in London.

RHS Harlow Carr is my favourite place to visit and the purpose of my trip. I ate at the Old Swan Hotel where I stayed. Pretty easy to get around although there are a lot of one way streets and sometimes it is tricky to drive down some of them due to double parking on each side as the roads can be quite narrow. I would keep to the main roads next time.

Harrogate is walkable town plenty of places to eat especially breakfast
We stayed one night here on our way through Yorkshire. Location is wonderful as it is in the heart of Harrogate. The hotel was lovely and the room was really nice - no view out of the window but that is not typically how we rate a hotel based on one night stay there anyway.
We ate in the restaurant - the Fat Badger - and the food was wonderful. The bar area is also a lot of fun.
We were lucky that we found a parking space in their garage as they do warn you that parking is limited.
Overall a great stay and would stay there again.
Great value for money accommodation for a new years eve stay in Harrogate the studio is around 25 min walk into the lovely town centre where we enjoyed an afternoon in several bars with cold bath brewery bar being a must for anyone visiting. Studio 22 is exactly as advertised nice and modern with everything you need. A great alternative to the hotels in the centre itself that were 3 times the price and free parking on a quiet leafy street a bonus will def stay again
We love Harrogate and have stayed at the crown a good few times and never really had any complaints. But on our last stay…Breakfast which cost £13 each was appalling. We stayed 3 nights. One morning there was no yoghurt, we had charcoal croissants, hash brown’s that were rock hard & mushroom that were not cooked. We complained to staff about this. But obviously nothing was done. This has put us off staying at the Crown hotel in future.
Lovely welcome from a staff member :) enjoyed the stay in one of the large four-poster bedrooms at the front. Quiet and comfortable stay with all the amenities we needed. The hotel is close to the centre of Harrogate, and the free parking is a lifesaver, as parking is a pain in this town! My partner and I only stayed briefly for one night, but it was perfect for what we needed.
Everything about the hotel was really good for me, the parking at the rear (£10 a day) is very good, the food both breakfast and dinner plus very good value for money, it’s location is right across from the exhibition centre and it’s central for most attractions in Harrogate plus the staff were ever so helpful and attentive it’s a 10 all round for me.
Perfect last minuite stay away with my wife and 3 year old, just a short car journey away from Harrogate town centre to visit the xmas markets.
Room was immaculate and comfortable, staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very nice!
Excellent stay, cannot fault and will definitely remember this hotel next time we visit Harrogate
The breakfast was great, and the hotel was at a great location to easily get to the convention centre. The room was clean and really comfy, with a good amount of outlets for my charger and hairdryer and stuff. Bonus points for one of the outlets being by the bed. The bathroom was really large too, with a great sized bath.
The location, on The Stray, and the very elegant old building itself with its fascinating history, is outstanding. The car parking facilities are excellent, and the hotel is making an effort to be 'green'. The stewed plums at breakfast were unique and delicious.
Beautiful hotel in the perfect setting. From the moment I arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and fresh with good facilities. Harrogate town centre is within a couple of minutes walk but the hotel overlooks beautiful green parkland.
Fantastic location, ten minute walk in to the centre of Harrogate. Wonderful sightseeing nearby. Amazing house, super clean, lots of lovely little touches and the kids loved the bedroom up at the top complete with fairy lights and a secret reading den!
Room was cosy with a huge bathroom .
Welcoming staff with parking at the rear.
One of the best breakfast menu's I've seen. All locally sourced.
Position in the centre of Harrogate
Busy on an evening offering wide variety of drinks plus a happy hour.
We loved everything about this hotel. The location is beautiful and unique. The accommodation is really clean and comfortable. The highlight though was the customer service especially in the restaurant. The food was great too. Nothing not to like!
The hotel was beautiful & had great views of Harrogate so pretty & central to everything. The bed was super comfortable & everything was kept clean. The breakfast buffet was super delicious! Thanks for an amazing hotel experience!
Nice boutique hotel in central location and close to Harrogate train station. Great, cheerful, service-oriented staff. Room and bathroom were spacious. Delicious breakfast options.
Good location for the convention centre. Friendly staff. Comfortable and cozy vibe. Very tasty breakfast to set you up for the day. Great place to stay in Harrogate.
