Set in 5 acres of woodland grounds, The Mary Mount Hotel is set on the shores of Derwentwater. With countryside views, rooms have private bathrooms. There is also a restaurant.
Score from 340 reviews Excellent
This Lakeland slate house is 0.5 miles above Buttermere village, and ideal for the famous Haystacks walk. YHA Buttermere has a bar/restaurant with views of the Red Pike and High Stile mountains.
Score from 74 reviews Very good
|Located in the market town of Keswick in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Denton House is just a 5-minute stroll from Keswick Leisure Centre.||
YHA Patterdale is a Scandinavian-style rural retreat set in the Lake District National Park. Hiking, rock climbing and watersports can all be enjoyed in the local area.
Score from 71 reviews Good
Comfortable room space with excellent views over the man-made waterfall at one side and Derwent Lake at the other and great breakfast. Very decent cash refunding option offered when the location did not suit over more than two nights.
The unexpected taxi fares for an outside Keswick location costing £11 was unplanned and thereby left me more short of money than I had envisaged having left for half a week after returning home.
Wifi access is rather restricted. Would be great to have it all in lounge, sitting room and dining area as well. Better still, in the dorm area.
The hostel is in a beautiful spot and the staff were really helpful and friendly without being too pushy. Alex was very helpful when we requested a room change for one with a lake view and even went and got us a heater to make it more comfortable. All round lovely place to stay.
Beds not brilliantly comfortable might have become an issue if we had been staying longer.
Location, location, location is supremely superb.
your doorstep neighboors are talking too loud, even at late night.
Spent a couple of nights here with my daughter and we loved the family room overlooking the lake and majestic grounds. Staff were down to earth, very helpful and kind. Facilities are perfect for Trekkers with laundry and drying room, games room etc. Little waterfall behind the hostel adds so much. Wish we could have stayed longer!
The canteen was very convenient but food was rather old school, stodgy, cold, dry, despite being home-made. Kitchen staff very friendly but rather dreamy and disorganised.
Lovely views from our dorm window, friendly staff
Breakfast was great except the bacon was a bit hard although it was early...
Helpful staff Great food - breakfast is a bargain Location is perfect Better than the old YHA - a lick of paint and just a bit more friendly
Location, staff and daytime setting. This was the closest I could get a family room to Patterdale at the last minute, therefore availability
Noise and discomfort was to be expected from a hostel, however, the price paid for accommodation and the low quality breakfast was very high. This is a hostel and even at the last minute the prices should reflect this. The breakfast was £1.50 value at £5.50 cost. Not good enough.
Everything. Staff were great, both before I arrived, and during my stay. Everything was exactly as I expected from a hostel (it is only £21 a night). And the location is simply superb - before my evening meal I went for a swim in Derwentwater. Without question, this will be my base when I visit Keswick in the future, which is frequently.
Nothing. Just wish I had found this hostel earlier.
The location is great, and the facilities were all very good. Staff were helpful and friendly. Got plenty of sleep even in a 22bed dorm!
If you're on your own, this place isn't the best for meeting other travellers as there are mostly only families holidaying there. Also if you don't have a car, you either need to walk a long way or catch a bus from Keswick which is a little expensive.
The house was very clean well organised and fully equipped for self catering no expense was spare. The grounds were wonderful we had our own waterfall at the rear of the building. Wonderful wild life.Perfect location for walking, hiking and day trips.bus from Keswick stop at the gate will definitely visit again.

very helpful staff
cold and damp room for the family , had various bugs in the room!!
Very helpful staff -from when I got lost and called up, to departure. It was relaxed, clean and spacious with a wonderful view. There always seemed to be a helpful member of staff available. The food was also lovely and ample with a good option for veggie :) The tab option made ordering less hassle. Bike storage was nearby. - I would highly recommend Derwent Hostel, excellent all round, particularly if you are doing the c2c.
Snoring! - Can't be helped I know :)
Really liked the location of the hostel, close to the lakeside, great views over to Catbells. Went down to the shore early in the morning and enjoyed the peace and quiet down there.
Loo didn't seem especially clean - though we did arrive quite late in the evening & there was only one loo between several family rooms, which seems not enough
Nice to sit outside and take in the lovely view, good free wi-fi in lounge, friendly staff, more family oriented than other hostels, good shower, Keswick cruise boat landing at foot of driveway (Ashness Gate).
Rather musty smell (of food trodden into damp carpet?) pervading common areas, beds very basic (but comfortable enough). Don't try the standard cotton wash in the LG washing machine - it takes 3 hours, also machine won't start if laundry weighs more than 7kg (e.g. 4 wet swimming towels)!
Staff v friendly. V relaxed atmosphere. All other guests were chatty and facilities were fantastic! The location is ... breathtaking! Catching the launch into Keswick is a must. Will never forget our evening paddles in lake then chatting over a Peroni playing ping pong. Will be back!
The staff at the hostel were welcoming and most helpful! The facilities were were well kept and clean
Although the facilities were well kept and clean I felt I could smell damp in some areas of the building
-location -local wildlife esp birds -close proximity of Derwentwater -handy for Keswick -friendly,knowledgable staff
-thought the cost of evening meal at the Hostel was a bit high
Location was amazing. Right on the lake
Unfortunately we were given the worst room in the annexe not in the main building as shown on the net. It was damp and smelling of old stone. Could not sleep for 3 nights. Really uncomfortable. Avoid room 12 at all costs!
It had been a while since we had stayed in a hostel. So was a little difficult for us and as we have a young child with special needs it was perhaps harder than normal. But the staff were tops. Things worked and was a nice vibe.
Slightly musty room but just needed airing.
Location Views Grounds Staff Comfort
Wasn't there long enough! I'd like to spend a week or two here.
Stunning location, good food and very helpful, friendly staff.
The Home cooked Foods and. Staff were excellent couldn't ask any better. From Outside Hostel looked Grand and Clean and have fab View.....
The Cleanliness in our bedroom and private toilet were poor. There were cob webs on the ceiling and death flies and Dusted Corners and all the windows were Dirty. Indoor Hotels looked Tired and in need of painting
Knew location as stayed many times in Keswick before. Half way for my onward journey to Wales from Scotland! Value for money.
Shame it had to go independent from the YHA. Toilets need better signage. Other people didn't lock the door on leaving.
