Located on Sidmouth’s esplanade, facing the sea, Royal York & Faulkner Hotel is a traditional, family-run, regency hotel with restaurant, spa facilities and stylish café-bar.
Score from 21 reviews Fabulous
Decor and furniture very old and outdated, beds of poor quality with cheap mattresses, in need of complete refurb
From the moment we stepped through the door we received nothing but excellent service. The room extremely comfortable a telly that was twice as big as the norm. The facilities tremendous and the breakfast superb. This is the best hotel in Exmouth without question, having sampled two other three star hotels within a quarter of a mile. Already booked for January. Oh. And if you can take advantage of their deals it's cheaper than the televised Inns, and do much more personal.
I rack my brain to find fault but I cannot.
2 Bedroom apt. well equipped and very spacious, only stayed one night
Could do with updating
Excellent Restaurant Good leisure facilities Caring staff
Too many notices pinned up Dated bedroom furniture Plastic flowers
The Location Reception staff friendly and polite Breakfast (did not have dinner) Onsite parking
Lift (functional but no safety door) Shower in room was poor and hard to get the temperature correct Cleaners coming to my room before my checkout time had elapsed
Was told we couldn't eat in the resturant becasue we hadn't booked - even though we were in a booked room! Then told we could but couldn't sit at an empty table with the only sea view because they had laid it for the next day! The girls were nasty & the breakfast swimming in oil! Told the manager who shook his shoulders ! Never ever again - bath had carpet around it - 20 years old - green avacado and polyester ...
Large bedroom balcony Pool being heated Food was excellent
Car park was difficult to drive in and out of with a large car Hotel was tired and lacked class Bathrooms needed a good overhaul
Excellent food. Cheerful helpful staff. Lovely warm swimming pool.
Had to park the car in the street
Brilliant for a young family, the staff were very helpful and cot was provided for my 7 month old baby girl.Perfect having the kitchen made it an easy holiday.
Decor was dated, but did add to the charm of the hotel.
Reception staff very friendly and informative.
Restaurant staff were rather miserable. Full English breakfast was average at best.
Loved the friendly welcome, the size and decor of the room, including balcony and sea view. The food was exceptional, and loads of it - will have to diet now! The lounge area is beautiful with stunning views. Didn't get to use the pool, but it looked good - always next time!
Couldn't get a drink when we arrived at 4.50pm. Long walk into town and to the beach.
A little tired but comfortable
Beds not clean
every thing was very good thank you
Stayed in a twin room, very spacious with a balcony and a lovely view. Breakfast was delicious, huge portions! Hotel facilities also very good.
Rooms slightly dated but very clean
Large spacious apartment with lounge, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Lovely views of landscaped gardens and sea from balcony. We enjoyed walking around the gardens which had a rear gate access to the beach. They had just installed some lovely coloured lighting throughout the gardens which added to the charm in the evenings. Good leisure facilities with gym. Spacious restaurant with nice food and friendly staff.
The hotel was really nice however, like many older hotels it was a little tired and could do with a facelift.
Sea view Attentive staff Walking distance from beach and town Superb breakfast choice, all freshly prepared. Good evening meals.
Bedroom decor dated
The outdoor pool! Balcony with sea view!
Sheets, prefer duvet! Decor quite dated.
We had a lovely view from our room with a balcony overlooking the sea. Lucky enough to have fab weather, breakfast was excellent.
The view was excellent (we had a suite) on the second floor looking out towards the beach.
My wife & I had single beds and one of them had a "dip in the matress and sloped to the side". Some of the staff in the dining room either do not like their job or require lessons on how to be polite!
Charging 25 GBP a day to use cooking facilities
Staff very friendly and helpful Close to the sea Plenty of parking
Room a bit tired Unable to control temperature of shower so didn't have one Didnt sleep all night walls very thin could hear the people in the next room all night I.e snoring
Friendly. Good food. Clean and comfortable
Lift outside my room was noisy
Very helpful staff
Breakfast was OK Some of the items had obviously been kept hot in a warm area. slightly dry. Dinner was poor . Fish and potatoes over cooked . Bread and butter pudding had been in a microwave . Room had nice view but was looking tired . Water pressure very poor so shower was not good. Room very hot
