Very central and ideal for making the connection to our cruise ship. It is a charming old building which has been well refurbished but it is a bit hard to get to bedrooms because of the original design of the building.

We were upgraded to a fantastic room because the first room we were given was not ready (the hotel system showed it was but it hadn't been done). The staff were very professional and friendly.

it is very central for shopping and near the cruise terminal. The hotel does a park and cruise offer but that left no parking spaces for guests that were checking in. They could only offer a voucher for £3 for the public car park. Not very satisfied with this arrangement.

Situation, decors, serfvices, food staff, room decor. Good well appointed hotel but the heat in the room (in January) was terrible and no-one could do anything about it. Most of the other esidents felt the same. This was a shame as it is a good hotel and the decor, staff and food are good. The Mercure group should do something about the heat as I would not stay there in the summer as the heat would be terrible.

The hotel and restaurant were both absolutely beautiful and very well refurbished. The corridors were abit of a maze to navigate through but the rooms were really lovely so it didn't really matter! We were able to check in incredibly early and staff were so helpful on check in and out, even giving directions to local restaurants. Breakfast was really really nice! I detest buffet style dining and other than continental options, absolutely everything was cooked to order which is unheard of in most hotels!! Very impressed!

Good shower and toiletries. Liked the courtyard room although quite small and, in common with so many British hotels, bed far too small. when will British hotels offer super king sized beds? Originally positioned in the back of the hotel and with 6 cases this was ridiculous! We simply could not access this room due to many doors and stairs and landings in this old building. When complained, offered courtyard room but could still not roll cases as paths were made of blocks and not concrete or tarmacaddam. Staff courteous and helpful particularly night porter. Bathroom badly needed a surface to place washbags and cosmetics. Bare pipes around the bathroom unsightly. We could hear everything happening in the room above and the movement on the floor was quite unnerving.

We enjoyed our stay very much and have always gone first to Mercure first in the past to book a new location UNFORTUNATELY this will be our very last booking with mercure and we are telling all friends and family not to book again!!! It is because the Mercure in Al Ain in Abu Dhabi......they have been unethical and repeated attempts to rectify the situation with management have been ignored. You cannot get repeat business when you wrongfully charge customers!!! Linda Hogenson We loved our stay at Mercure Southampton unfortunately we canot ever reccommend a Mercure Hotel again!!!

I was absolutely gobsmacked when I open the door to my room and saw the size of it. It was really well presented and was warm, clean and very inviting. We had a meal their one night and it was delicious although i must say the drinks were very overpriced. Will definitely stay again, its close to everything.

Ease of parking. Room 11...When running the wash basin tap it backfills into the shower. Thus stale water smell is evident in the bathroom. Advised receptionist upon check out.

Old hotel with quirky design, had to go through six fire doors with luggage to get to room. Room too hot or to cold. Check out slow - lady did not seem to know how to use billing screens.
