Location was fair. Breakfast was good.
Rooms were dated. Rooms were cold (Bedroom, Bathroom and meeting room) I was in room 1, Street noise and noise from reception area was so loud I only slept for a few hours. Shower once set to comfortable temperature changed from very cold to scalding hot as I showered.
Staff yet again very helpful. Fantastic breakfast and great and helpful people.
Staff where very friendly, room was clean and beds comfortable.
Our room had a corridor overhead, very noisy with people walking and running above use both day and night. We were informed there would be a T.V in the room but not that reception was impossible to watch. Food was basic, service slow, bearing in mind we were the only people in the restaurant.
Location is good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice.
Rooms were cold. Courtyard room was so cold I moved, but even the room in the main building was barely warm enough. Radiators worked in the halls but not in the rooms. TV channel choice and reception is really poor. Rooms are dated. Menu choice is limited. Shower was adequate but no more than that. Clanking plumbing made sleeping difficult. WiFi was patchy.
Friendly staff, prepare to do that bit extra for their guests.
Convenient for East Midlands Airport. Ample parking.
Staff were excellent. Very helpful. Room was very comfortable and pleasant. Near the airport so made for relaxing morning before flight.
The comfy bed
Excellent staff, good sized bedrooms with massive sized beds, breakfast very good, would use hotel again thank you.
Friendly staff, big car park, Excellent dinners & breakfast.Restaurant looked very elegant. It was our first time staying at this hotel and we had a room in the courtyard, which suited us, as there were no stairs & right near the car park. We would definitely go back there again when we next go to Donington race circuit, which was a few minutes away.
I really do not want to complain, but the hotel does need a refurbishment, but as I understand, that needs a lot of money to do just that, not easy in this recession we are all experiencing. In the meantime the armchair with a hole at the front could be put somewhere else rather than in the front of the hotel, or have a throw over on it. Perhaps a few pictures on the wall in the room we stayed in.
The room and bathroom were a good size The bed was also nice and big The few staff we saw were friendly
It was cold - too cold to enjoy the rooms Felt like the bar wanted to close early
The food was average. I have had better breakfasts.
The restaurant food was excellent.
UK vintage deco and nice staff
wifi not working
Lovely large room, quiet, comfortable, excellent. Main course dinner was very good, steak. Pudding - Eaton Mess was poor - warm and balance of ingredients was wrong, far too much cream not enough fruit, heavy.
Breakfast - poached egg was barely warm and cooked tomato was cold. No croissants on buffet table. Flush on toilet in bedroom needed attention.
the staff were great
the premises and the absence of Wi-Fi and television channels
Very friendly, helpful staff. Were given an upgrade to a suite on arrival which was very much appreciated. Hotel full of character and great position for exploring the village and many small shops, pubs and restaurants. Lovely breakfast. Would stay again.
The staff were lovely - our room was a bit dated n costs a lot but to be fair our friends room was more modern. :-)
Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful - some of the best I have ever experienced. Food was very tasty.
No hair dryer in room and bathroom was very cramped - hand basin stuffed in a tight corner
Lovely old hotel. Good friendly staff. Good breakfast
Hotel is a little tired now needs redecorating, new carpets and proper locks on bedroom doors. We could have done with a fan in the room as it was a warm night and the windows only open at the top.
The staff without exception were very friendly and helpful
For a three star hotel it was pretty shabby in appearance. Also the bedroom was lacking a few items that we take for granted these days. ie: A box of tissues Biscuits and Drinking Chocolate along with the Tea & Coffee that was provided. Our room had a badly stained carpet. There was a hole in the bed sheet and both of the doors were very squeaky ( a squirt of WD40 would have fixed this!) We were in one of the Courtyard Rooms and the light outside our door didn't work which meant that without a torch we couldn't find the key hole when we returned after dark!
The staff were friendly and helpful
The hotel is in a very bad state. Some of the furniture looks like it was rescued from a skip - stained, threadbare sofas, divans with holes and what look like cigarette burns in them, dirty plywood furniture like that from a student house. The carpets were all stained, threadbare and filthy looking and in some places held together with duct tape; the faux-wood panelling of the corridors also stained and damaged. The rooms themselves are fairly big but also in a poor state - our bathroom had loose tiles sitting by the bath, the tap handles came off the taps when turned, the lampshades were burnt and the carpet stained. The room stank of mould and mildew, the bedsheets smelt the same, the sofa in the room was so dirty and stained we didn't want to sit on it. The springs in the bed and failed so the mattress had pits into which we slid during the night so we slept terribly. The breakfast room was poor - a paltry offering of pastries and cereal in one corner of a large, dirty room, with a few sausages and eggs guarded by a single waiter. All of that for £109! We'll be staying somewhere else next time.
The beer garden was great on a sunny day. The car parking was great . The location was great. Our daughters room in the main building was spacious. The staff did their best in difficult circumstances. This hotel could do with a visit from The Hotel Inspector to give it a shake up !
Our room was in the courtyard and the room smelt damp. The carpet was filthy . The hot tap on the basin spun around when you turned it on so the spout hit the wall. The wifi was non existent even after the hub was reset several times . The rooms were extremely hard to lock, you had to press the button on the inside and pull the door shut ! In fact, overall security would benefit from a review. The stairs carpet in the main building is loose on the treads and frayed in some areas. The bar area needs a make over; some of the chair fabric is very grubby. While the staff were helpful and courteous they were very stretched; at one point there was one person managing a busy and under-stocked bar. The single member of staff serving breakfast was similarly over- stretched. This hotel has had a lot of money spent on it in the past but is now looking very tired which is a shame given the potential.
