Location comfortable bed Staff did not communicate with each other. One of our party was not directed to appropriate breakfast place and had breakfast on his own because staff had not identified him as one of a party of 6! Grill room more like a diner than a restaurant. Tables too close for privacy - not very nice place to eat.

Decor, log fire, comfortable bed Grill room is not very plush - more like a diner - wooden tables too small, too close together - no privacy for two people having a conversation. Staff not communicating changes in grill room booking - we changed from 7.30 to 8.30 but when we arrived we were not on the dining list. Maitre d rushing around scowling at waitresses and stressing everyone out. Waiting at tables was awful - waitresses looked spaced out and moved so slowly, not knowing which table food was for. No one kept an eye on you to see if you were ready to order - we had to call someone over and she told us it was her first day!!!

Beautiful surroundings, good food, nice facilities and rooms I booked four rooms to stay after an awards dinner. One of the rooms was in a separate wing not seeming to be used by any other guests. The room was freezing on arrival and was smaller than the other rooms. The heating was sorted out by staff later in the evening. At 7.30 in the morning builders arrived and started making noise. Not what was expected in the quiet surroundings of this hotel. A shame because our other guests enjoyed their stay

Staff were helpful, though it took a long time for the front desk to pick up the phone. My room had about 40 flies! And the wi-fi in the rooms is painfully slow. It's not really suitable as a business hotel because you can't get any work done in the evenings.

At very first look it was looking like a haunted manor house as I arrived about 8:00 pm and it was very dark,Apart from that staff was really nice and helpful.Room was done by someone really professional and I would rate it five star. Shower curtains were dirty, management needs to look into it.....

Beautiful building and lovely grounds V small bathroom in need of refurbishment - grouting between tiles looked black and quite offputting in one area around the bath. Limited toiletries supplied - no hair conditioner/moisturiser/shower caps or bathrobes.

I felt the staff was very good, their service was good and they were always friednly, polite and helpful. I also like the ambience of the house, it was lovely, the interior was beautiful and the builidng and the gorunds itself was grand. Our room was spacious and well presented with a hugh bathroom I also like the facilites ie swimming pool, billards and croquet was available to keep us entertained. The best however was the food, it was absolutely lovely and tasty and matched perfectly with the regal interior of the house. There were also some lovely pieces of art and ornaments and the architecture of the house was lovely. There was a little write up on the history of the house at reception which I found interesting. The kids loved the pool and the billards room as well as the outdoor games of giant chess and croquest. It was very child friendly and we had a lovely 2 day break with lots to do. It is also located quite near the train station so it was conveniant to get to. Our bathroom was not cleaned properly, it smelt really bad and when I looked to see if there was a leak, I saw a stain from the top of the toilet bowl all the way to the bottom. I asked for it to be cleaned and it was cleaned straight away but it still smelt (not as bad) though. Also things looked a bit tired, there was varnish chipoped form the lovely Italian furniture, bit of wall paper coming off the wall the lovely decorated room. Also in the bathroom there were cracks and gaps in the tile. Also when I pulled the duvet back upon going to bed there was a big blob of hair or fibre which left me thing the duvet was thrown off the bed unto the ground when it was being made. Also there was a sofa in our room and my kids took the cushions off to our horror we saw crumbs and food I would imagine from the previous guest. Also it seemed a bit more tuned as a conference centre that a gettaway break.

Comparatively cheap hotel room. Quiet bedroom. Impolite bar staff service. Expensive ordinary food at the bar, with various menus having differnet prices; no apology for the wrong prices.

Good location with lovely building and grounds. The menu in the restraunt was pretenious and poor. The food tried to be innoavtive and was not cheap. However it was not well cooked and with small portions. We ate in the restraunt as it is some distance from alternatives. Over three nights we heard complaints from other diners on every occasion. We arrived at 5 pm but ur room was not ready and we had to wait 30mins

We were given a beautiful ground floor room overlooking the garden as requested. The room was very comfortable wth an extra large bed and a flat screen tv. Staff looked fairly stressed and the service in the restaurant for the breakfast was rather slow. The tables were not cleared as quickly as they should have been and a lack of attention to detail. Food for breakfast was good although I would have liked to see a choice of bread for toast rather than just bog standard white and brown medium sliced, an uncut granary or farmhouse white to cut would have been nice.

Good value for money, good breakfast. Good room as we had a dog and patio access was ideal. Nice grounds. Room decor very tired and dated, staff all totally miserable. They focused on their tasks, engaged with guests as little as possible. You definitely don't go there for the sparkling service!!

Lovely atmosphere, everyone helpful, a real "country house", grand decor. Room spacious, very comfortable, great view over grounds, everything worked. Slept well. Walked through the grounds for an hour before a comprehensive breakfast. Booked last minute for a long-time-no- see reunion treat and so glad I did!

Our room was large with high ceilings a very comfy bed and french doors leading out onto the gardens. The bathroom was one of the largest we have had in a hotel room. The shower needed to be turned full on to get the water to run hot. Our evening meal was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. An interesting hotel and lovely grounds. Our room was warm enough but the public rooms were quite chilly.

My main reason for staying here was that the hotel was pet friendly and the facility for this was very well catered for. The room had patio doors for easy access to the extensive lawn area. A dish, treats and 'poo' bags were provided. The bedroom and bathroom were both very spacious and clean. The curtains would need replaced or the linings at least. I had to wait on toast and my fry was cold. Its a pity to stay in a 4 star hotel and have to go self service for breakfast.

“I used the hotel as a resting place after a very long flight from Australia. It was ideal as it was only approximately 10mins from Stansted airport. The staff are friendly the hotel is clean and very comfortable. Full English breakfast was brilliant, just what I needed, especially as I had been in Oz for 7 months. It made me feel back home.
