Down Hall Country House Hotel  

Good location with lovely building and grounds.

The menu in the restraunt was pretenious and poor. The food tried to be innoavtive and was not cheap. However it was not well cooked and with small portions. We ate in the restraunt as it is some distance from alternatives. Over three nights we heard complaints from other diners on every occasion. We arrived at 5 pm but ur room was not ready and we had to wait 30mins

Although there were other functions going on at the same time we felt that our party were made to feel exclusive. All the staff that we came accross were very helpful, polite and friendly. The food supplied was of a very good quality, at a high standard and well presented. The hotel is in a lovely setting and is a wonderful building. Car parking was very easy with good directions of where to park on the day. Directions to get to the hotel were very clear to follow and accurate.

Sadly our room was directly above the entrance and exit therefore we were disturbed by departing guests waiting outside and arriving taxis at various points during the night.

It is a very nice hotel. With high Standards. And it caters for everyone. (I stayed over for a friends wedding. And had a wonderful time.)

Very beautiful setting. Staff were very polite and helpful. Excellent sized room.

Room did smell of stale smoke, but otherwise was very clean. The leisure facilities are a bit tired - could do with a bit of investment.

Very easy to get lost.

There was no house keeping on the sunday we were there, we left a message and are still waiting for an ice bucket and 2 towels. You had to change in the hotel swimming pool as there were no gowns or slippers, no where to put your cloths when you were in there and the sauna was in the changing room so you couldn't be with your partner while in there,. The room had a small window up high so the room felt claustophobic.

Food excellent. Stunning architecture of old house,public lounge. Staff friendly and efficient. Grand style carried through to "new wing". Large comfortable room.

Car park a bit of a trek. Gym/pool facilities poor. Hotel is "dog friendly " which is fine except for owners who go to dinner leavening their faithful friend in the room barking for nearly two hours! Management keener to move me than tackle the dog owners. Heating not really capable of heating room. Bathroom remained cold with only a small towel rail as a source of heat meaning showers were unpleasantly cold. The hotel lends itself to large gatherings/conferences it is not restful/relaxing as a traditional country house.

Well run, staff attentive.

My partner and I stayed at the Down Hall Country House Hotel for a weekend break two weeks ago. Driving into the landscaped entrance was already enough to set the scene, with tranquil surroundings! The staff were courteous and the food in the restaurant well prepared. It lived up to our expectations.

An impressive building with character and good facilities

Some scope for modernisation of rooms. I had one of the last rooms available (Room 130), where the heating was inadequate for the size of room and the lighting was too dim to work by

Just arriving at this beautiful place was fantastic. Being in the countryside - but relatively close to Epping-underground to London - and close to Stansted. Was perfect. We'll be back

Available for free: kettle, tea bags and biscuits. Very good price. A lot of choice for breakfast. Very spacious room.

Not possible to get a warm sandwich or soup after 11 pm.
