Firstly it is miles from Bishops Stortford. When directed to our room,
from the smart reception, we were directed up a staircase that was not
only very shabby, but grubby too. Our room was very tired, curtains
falling off the pole, dingy net curtains, overlooking the carpark.
Enormously creaky floorboards! Rationed teabags and milk. The sound
system in the bar was faulty so we were treated to awful screechy music.
For breakfast, we ordered smoked haddock with poached eggs, first, the
order was misplaced, forgotten. When it did eventually arrive the
haddock was completely tasteless and unpleasant, clearly a different
chef on duty from the previous night. The cost was totally unjustified
for our room and the overall experience. Stay away.
The hotel is in a nice location, the grounds at the front of the house
are well cared for and pretty, gives a good initial impression. The food
we had for our evening meal was beautifully cooked and delicious.
