The spacious rooms & hotel lobby rooms
Breakfast variety can be improved for such a prestigious hotel
Excellent room and very large, comfy bed. Good breakfast.
Info sheet with instructions to Stansted airport could have been more explicit.
Facilities and grounds were good.
Not as advertised. Did not live up to the posh standard they demonstrate in the pictures. The room was dark, old furniture, bath had tiles missing and bath had paint chipped off.
Good feel in public rooms
Room was shocking. I had asked for refurbished room as I stay regularly but did not and allocated a poor one which I think is a bad show..
Saying I will come back is testament. Positives Incredible value for the price I booked at Room was amazing. Just lovely and with dressing gowns etc. I understand some rooms haven't been updated yet The walk and drive up to the hotel is stunning Breakfast is fantastic. The best scrambled egg for some time. Didn't use the sauna but will next time.
Negatives Wifi constantly dropped out rather than leaving you logged on. I still liked having it though. Bar food was very expensive considering that you weren't in the restaurant. Nice mushroom ravioli but no offer of Parmesan and £16. No restaurant menu in the room Wine is on the pricey side
Lovely location, excellent staff who can't do enough to make your stay perfect! Thank you
Firm, very comfortable beds Polite, attentive, friendly, well-trained staff. Luxurious public areas. On my second visit I paid for an upgrade to a huge & well-equipped executive room. Furnished and maintained to a very high standard. Excellent value weekday bed & breakfast package. Excellent breakfast menu. Beautiful rural surroundings.
Expensive & quite limited evening menu. Quite a distance from local towns and amenities along unlit country road. On my first visit my older, standard-price room (212) smelled a bit musty and did not appear to have been refurbished. Hotel information leaflets were in a pile on top of the wardrobe. Everything worked fine, but that one room was a bit shabby. (But the bed was nonetheless incredibly comfortable!)
The room and en suite was a really good size. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean. There were lots of mirrors, plugsockets and lights. The staff were all very pleasant and accomodating.
Can honestly say there wasn't anything we didn't like. Although as expected with a 4* hotel the food and drink was quite expensive (£11.00 for a pint of lager and large wine) but it was very tasty food so was our little treat to ourselves on our first night.
Location, Wifi, Facilities and Staff
Location of the Room and that there was no Bath, only a shower
The Hotel has an English charm and we enjoyed our visit immensely Hope to return in the not too distant future
Could not find any faults on our visit
Excellent dinner Courteous and helpful staff
Room that looked out on the kitchen bins and car park with dirty voile curtains! Noisy wedding guests at night. Shabby furniture, poor lighting, antiquated shower and hairdryer. Would not recommend hotel to friends
Peaceful location; beAutiful room.
filling of nice old england good restorant lowly garden
reception all time was very beasy
The historical building The environment, the atmosphere The spaces The hygiene
The building is beautiful, the grounds are stunning.
the bedrooms are VERY Tired, in desperate need of updating.
the restaurant food was excellent and the staff very attentive and always smiling. Slept well in comfortable room with great bathroom and free wifi.
Staff, breakfast, impressive location building and surroundings.
Room condition was tired and old, curtains threadbare & bathroom news upgrade.
Late deal and therefore not surprised when room was obviously not best!!! Bathroom in 122(2) needed a good refurb but overall rest of stay good. Slightly disappointed with buffet breakfast as bacon hard and tasteless ... Staff great!!!
See previous comment re hard bacon at breakfast and mould on tiles of bathroom which needed a great deal of care and attention!
Great building Impressive location Great food Superb breakfast Very attractive price!
Not very clean room:( But great value for money!
The room was desperately in need of updating. Very dilapidated and in need of a complete refurbishment. Overly expensive and very poor value for money. Considering the poor condition of the room we could not believe that the meal in the restaurant would be worth the high prices so we ate elsewhere.
Both my wife & I enjoyed the whole of our stay from the comfort of our room which was a dis-abled room to both dinner & breakfast before departing.
Bar staff were really good especially a very small blonde lady, wish I had taken her name, she was so helpful with information, chatting with the guests and was working really hard all at the same time.
A couple of the reception staff seemed a bit stressed through the demands of the job. Not something I like to see as I feel like I'm interrupting.
Facilities, gym, sauna, restaurant
Not really an Hotel, it is really a collection of function rooms which have bedrooms. No real focus on hotel guests or facilities.
Hotel staff were very professional. Our room, and indeed other parts of the premises were very clean.( Lovely bathroom in our executive room) We had dinner in the 'Riviera' restaurant which was most enjoyable. Service 1st class, never felt rushed or waited too long for the next course, which is not always easy to do. Breakfast the next morning was quite busy, but again there seemed to be plenty of staff to handle the situation. The choice of food available was many and varied and of good quality, which has in other places we have stayed been a little underwhelming.
The hotel hosts weddings, and I'm sure very well, but they do impinge on other guests. The Sunday (5th Oct.) we stayed had a large wedding party which a had a thumping disco going on to 11 pm.
