“Convenient for the event we needed to attend The breakfast was very good”
Andrew,
Salisbury
With beautiful furniture, a library and gardens, Downs Edge has the relaxed atmosphere of a country house. Enjoy homemade gourmet breakfasts and rooms with pretty views. Downs Edge is a quiet building with free parking, and is set far back from the nearest road. The gardens open out onto Bristol Downs (a huge open park) at the front, and onto the Botanic Gardens at the back. Most rooms have views of either space; all rooms have private attached bathrooms. The traditional dining room has nice furniture, silver items and paintings. Central Bristol is within 2 miles and many local attractions are close to Downs Edge. Hotel Rooms: 8 Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 10:49 from Japan.

The breakfast was really excellent - an amazing choice. Location was perfect for visiting our daughter in her Halls of Residence - practically next door. Bathroom a bit outdated.

That it is just someone's home, or rather, someone's granparents' home and we felt we were made to feel at home: there is nothing like having your own key to the front door A lick of gloss paint especially in the bathroom would work wonders - and before then someone just needs to spend an hour or so cleaning the dust off the cupboard doors and window ledges/frames, off the courtesy trays and the mantlepiece. A little effort and not a lot of money would transform something that looks like your granny's occasional spare room into something really very nice indeed. That said, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast super and I would recommend my parents stay there, for the convenience, but I know my mother would be even more concerned about the standards of cleaning...

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Although Downs Edge does not market itself as a baby-friendly hotel, we found it very comfortable with our 13 month old. They kindly loaned us the use of a high chair which was in fact a family heirloom! The staff were welcoming and attentive. Breakfasts do need to be ordered the day before but this is something that the owners make you aware of, so there is no way of forgetting! This leads me on to breakfast, all hotel residents sit around the same table which I personally loved. We had lovely conversations with others but at the same time were able to dip in and out of the talk as we wanted. There were lovely home baked treats in our room every day. The downs are beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Bristol!

Olde World charm and echo of past glory. Property was very nicely furnished and had a homely feel. Breakfast was extensive and beautifully presented. We stayed in the house next door due to a wedding party filling the main house. I believe the house we stayed in is currentlybeing renovated and upgraded but on first entry had the musty odour of a closed-up building. However, this did not invade the rooms and the amenities, bathroom and room was very comfortable, especially the bed. Our hosts were very helpful with local dining options. I can highly recommend the Black Boy Inn which has a small bar area in the front and a fine dining restaurant behind the bar.

Beautifully presented house, full of antiques, atmosphere was lovely and tranquil after the hustle of Bristol. The owners were very pleasant and the breakfast selection extreemly good. A little like staying in a "Poirot" set, right up my street. All the mod cons required without loosing any of the character.

I required to stay within a short distance of Bristol centre and Downs Edge was ideal. The accommodation was comfortable and the rooms were cleaned every day with new towles supplied. The property was a large detached home which has been developed as B&B accommodation so anyone staying at Downs Edge would benefit from the comfort and warmth radiated by the friendliness of the proprietors. The breakfast menu was superb and the hospitality shown by the proprietors was beyond approach. I would definitley stay at Downs Edge again

The proprietors were delightfully friendly hosts and in addition to cooking a great breakfast (complete with 8 different jams) provided us with a fascinating history of Bristol, the Downs and the role that they personally played in local development. Downs Edge is on the edge of the Downs and a pleasant walk to downtown or more natural vistas of the Suspension bridge and the Gorge.

The family who run it were so friendly and professional and the venue and the setting are stunning. The room and food were 1st class and you are in an excellent position to venture into the city or go out into the countryside. Heartily recommend it - my onlyprobl is with the survey where we are neither a young couple nor a mature couple - we are a middle aged couple!

It's a little gem. Full of character, good location, comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast - but it's definitely a b&b rather than a hotel if that matters to you.
