Downs EdgeDowns Edge, Saville Road, Stoke Bishop, Stoke Bishop, BS9 1JA Bristol (Show map) Very good, Score from 93 reviews“Convenient for the event we needed to attend The breakfast was very good”
Andrew,
Salisbury
With beautiful furniture, a library and gardens, Downs Edge has the relaxed atmosphere of a country house. Enjoy homemade gourmet breakfasts and rooms with pretty views. Downs Edge is a quiet building with free parking, and is set far back from the nearest road. The gardens open out onto Bristol Downs (a huge open park) at the front, and onto the Botanic Gardens at the back. Most rooms have views of either space; all rooms have private attached bathrooms. The traditional dining room has nice furniture, silver items and paintings. Central Bristol is within 2 miles and many local attractions are close to Downs Edge. Hotel Rooms: 8

I was given a room in the house next door which was cold, damp & musty. It didn't appear that the bed had clean sheets & a pillow case looked crumpled as though it had not been changed. I slept with my clothes on because of this & the damp feeling of the bedding. The shower was filthy on the doors and shower head & the sink plug was thick with grime.

Homely atmosphere, helpfulness of the owners, and a very good breakfast. It was very close to where I needed to be, and good value for money. The door to my room wouldn't lock, and was difficult to unlock. So, when I returned at night, and nobody was around I had to sleep with my door unlocked. The shower was difficult to work.

The proprietors were delightfully friendly hosts and in addition to cooking a great breakfast (complete with 8 different jams) provided us with a fascinating history of Bristol, the Downs and the role that they personally played in local development. Downs Edge is on the edge of the Downs and a pleasant walk to downtown or more natural vistas of the Suspension bridge and the Gorge.

The fantastic location on the downs and the delicious breakfasts. Although only twins rooms were available when we booked we really appreciated that we were able to swap to a double.

The family who run it were so friendly and professional and the venue and the setting are stunning. The room and food were 1st class and you are in an excellent position to venture into the city or go out into the countryside. Heartily recommend it - my onlyprobl is with the survey where we are neither a young couple nor a mature couple - we are a middle aged couple!

It's a little gem. Full of character, good location, comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast - but it's definitely a b&b rather than a hotel if that matters to you.
