Room and facilities
To be informed that there were no tables for four people at 09.00 for breakfast, but two tables adjacent to each other was the next best offer. The restaurant did have vacant tables for four which only required setting but that was not offered.
Great location for touring the coast. Size of room. Good facilities. Friendly reception staff.
Some staff were friendly and helpful, but some were not. They had their way of doing things and that was how it had to be. Eg. If you want a pre-dinner drink in the library (the bar was dark and dingey) get it yourself from the bar and take it through. If you ask they'll give you the menu to look at while having a drink, but they won't come and take your order. The dinner menu was unusual, some quite nice dishes, others a bit strange. It tried a bit too hard to be fancy. No freshly caught fish or seafood. No specials of the day. Same menu every night. Simpler would have been better. The breakfast buffet was tired and boring. Elderly looking cereals. Toast made from cheap sliced bread. No fresh meats or cheese. Decent cooked breakfast though. Overall there was a sense of too few staff who were overworked and didn't always have time for niceties.
Imposing building in a Great setting that oozes class. Didn't use the spa facilities so can't comment on them.
It's quite expensive but for special occasions worth pushing the boat out.
Staff we're exceptionally good
Nothing to speak of
Proximity to Coast, castles and main routes. Breakfast was good and sets you up for the day. My daughter loved the Yew maze.
leisure facilities, bedroom decor, jacuzzi in the bathroom, food. Everything was just perfect. I would recommend it.
There was nothing to dislike. I loved all.
Lovely grounds, helpful and friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable surroundings and numerous spaces to relax.
Lack of wi fi in bedrooms and would have liked a choice of local real ales on tap.
Everything, except ....
The noise from the wedding
Hotel surroundings, spa and rooms very nice
Bar menu could be a bit more imaginative and include starters
Room and friendly staff, meal was very nice.
Noise from wedding party but we were pre warned before booking.
Decor, setting and grounds. Quality of the accommodation.
Breakfast, both kippers and sausage were overcooked. Apple juice was made from concentrate. Food not of the quality of the accommodation.
The hotel itself is the ultimate in luxury with brilliant staff, extraordinary food and accomodation, could not fault it in any way. The spa however, is a disappointment - but go, just for the hotel !!
Unfortunately the spa is the worst I have ever visited. But the hotel does make up for it !!
Spa was very good. Rooms was fine, but as we couldn't open the window mare than 4 iinches, it was very uncomfortable.
Dinner menu - some of us like plainer food Menu needs to have more choice or change more often. Did not like the long waits to be served.
Room comfort, pool and spa facilities, restaurant, comfort in common rooms, lovely surrondings both in the hotel grounds and in teh countryside around. Very peaceful!
Poor Wifi reception in bedroom - not a major issue
Great rooms, lovely gardens, wonderful food, welcoming staff.
Bar staff overloaded with washing up from wedding function leading to no room on the bar for customers !
Space and comfort
Lovely hotel with excellent facilities. Bedroom was superb with beautiful views over the garden. Breakfast and dinner both days were very good.
Service at breakfast was very slow.
With the cost of 1 night stay for b&b £275 thought it was over the top charging £5 extra if you wanted smoked salmon for breakfast, but overall best b&b i have ever stayed in
Cost of an evening meal was doubled by 2 glasses of wine and 1 desert
Beautiful room with fabulous huge bathroom, massive bath, underfloor heating etc. Dinner in the restaurant was sublime: fantastic chef and friendly waiting staff. A brilliant stay overall.
Little things stopped the stay from being perfect: the tea ordered in the Library that never arrived; slightly wrong breakfast order both days; having to call down to ask for little things such as sugar and breakfast menu. Small flaws but they cause ripples!
Lovely place, great staff and nice quiet atmosphere.
Food and beverage cost was outrageous. It's naive really as we left the premises second night to eat and never bought anywhere near as many drinks as we would have. £2 for a tiny bottle of coke and an evening meal for 2 costing over £100. Pint of lager well over £4, closer to £5
Very grand hotel. Beautiful surroundings and easy access to Seahouses. Very helpful staff and excellent food in the restaurant.
No tennis court as advertised on this site. The gym was very hot and stuffy despite air conditioning.
A fantastic quiet country location but still only a few miles from the sea, this was our second visit to Doxford Hall this year it's that good. The hotel rooms are spacious and modern ,but set in a country house exterior. But the most compelling reason for returning was the staff, from the reception team to the restaurant and bar staff and housekeeping they are fantastic. We can certainly recommend Doxford Hall to anyone who wishes to visit Northumberland .
We liked the feeling of being in the heart of the countryside whilst actually being within easy reach by road of many of the attractions of the area. The hotel was very comfortable throughout and the staff efficient but also very friendly and welcoming.
There was nothing not to like.
