The family room we stayed in was amazing, separate room for the kids and even a kitchen and the bathroom was huge. Also the breakfast was very tasty with excellent service and choice.
The leisure facilities were a little lacking/tired in parts, only 2 changing rooms which were uni-sex and there were only 2 showers which were by the poolside. But the sauna, steamroom, pool and Jacuzzi were lovely.
Comfortable room Luxurious bathroom Delicious cooked-to-order breakfasts Excellent dinner Friendly and helpful staff
80s Muzak on permanent loop in dining room - felt incongruous in the lovely 19th century candle-lit (for dinner) room.
Lovely setting and interior Good facilities
Very charming and welcoming staff. I felt like nothing was to much trouble for them.
just about everything
it was really cold in the morning in the corridors and restaurant
The complete stay
Food comfort, staff friendly nothing too much trouble, white table cloths , clean swimming pool. In short my favourite hotel!!
Comfort and quiet. Lovely weather and grounds. Great breakfast.
Dinner expensive and slow.
COCKTAILBAR WAS VERY POOR DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF AND WOULD YOU BELIEVE NO DRY SHERRY! WOULD HAVE EXPECTED A LARGER MENU
The location, the building and its potential. The bedroom was clean and serviced well
The service and the price. In my opinion for the price paid the service was poor. There was very little interaction from the staff, they appeared quite remote. It took 2 hours to receive fresh milk for the tea and coffee room facilities.
Hotel location and tranquillity. The new style cottage bedrooms. The friendliness of the staff
A little more privacy at the cottage bedroom windows would be welcomed - maybe blinds as people walking by could see in to the bedroom which is not as relaxing as would like.
Beautiful hotel and surroundings, perfect attention to detail, brilliantly friendly staff, bedroom was gorgeous. Even had a TV in the bathroom. Spa is great. The library is so beautiful and relaxing.
Only very tiny niggle is that the bedroom walls are thin and we we're kept awake by a loud snorer. I'm sure if we'd asked to change rooms they would have accommodated us. The staff will do anything for you.
Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, great food, gorgeous room.
Pool area looked a little 'tired', but still acceptable
The relaxing air of the hotel. The lounge menu is ideal if you do not want to go for a formal sit down in the restaurant.
A bit more staff on duty to cater for guests who are not part of the wedding party. To be fair the hotel did inform us before our stay that there would be a wedding party. The hotel is not to blame for wedding guests who think it is their right to push past to get served at the bar even though the hotel had set up an additional bar for the wedding function.
Room and facilities
To be informed that there were no tables for four people at 09.00 for breakfast, but two tables adjacent to each other was the next best offer. The restaurant did have vacant tables for four which only required setting but that was not offered.
Peaceful surroundings welcoming staff very helpful an polite . Library delightful coffee and morning papers x breakfast delicious best ever kipper trust is was a local craster smoked.
Great location for touring the coast. Size of room. Good facilities. Friendly reception staff.
Some staff were friendly and helpful, but some were not. They had their way of doing things and that was how it had to be. Eg. If you want a pre-dinner drink in the library (the bar was dark and dingey) get it yourself from the bar and take it through. If you ask they'll give you the menu to look at while having a drink, but they won't come and take your order. The dinner menu was unusual, some quite nice dishes, others a bit strange. It tried a bit too hard to be fancy. No freshly caught fish or seafood. No specials of the day. Same menu every night. Simpler would have been better. The breakfast buffet was tired and boring. Elderly looking cereals. Toast made from cheap sliced bread. No fresh meats or cheese. Decent cooked breakfast though. Overall there was a sense of too few staff who were overworked and didn't always have time for niceties.
Imposing building in a Great setting that oozes class. Didn't use the spa facilities so can't comment on them.
It's quite expensive but for special occasions worth pushing the boat out.
Staff we're exceptionally good
Nothing to speak of
Proximity to Coast, castles and main routes. Breakfast was good and sets you up for the day. My daughter loved the Yew maze.
I travelled and stayed alone. I arrived with a severe headache, turned migraine. I was shown to my exec room (9) near spa. I rested, and when feeling better I called reception, asking to extend stay. Hotel was full due to weddings for next 2 days... But reception shuffled things and I was told I could extend stay if I was ok with moving to another room for the next night.
Old building and noise travels... Doors opening, people walking passed room etc.... When booking, you may wish to enquire if there will be a wedding while you are due to stay.... If so maybe have a room further away from the function areas
