Beautiful location Friendly staff
Food and service in restaurant was poor.
Peace and quiet - even in the 'town' centre, that's how Montgomery is!
Location, Bar and Restaurant
The en-suite was small
Loved the hotel! The best part was the staff and how kind and accommodating they were. The young men at reception were friendly and helpful.
Hospitality and comfort together with the attention of the staff made it a very happy stay.
Liked that it is an historic place and its central location in Montgomery. The food both in the evening and at breakfast was tasty and excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. the room was well prepared and comfortable.
If we had known the height of the building, we would have asked for a room on a lower floor as my husband has some breathing difficulties so climbing the stairs was a bit much for him. Also the room and the bathroom had a sloping ceiling which made access difficult
History of Building and location in historical town. Good restaurant and lively bar. Good parking to rear of hotel.
Noisy floorboards in adjacent rooms. En-suite was on the small size; only small cupboard to hang clothes - limited due to age of hotel rooms.
The menu was very good. The rooms were comfortable. My daughter wanted to return another night because she slept so well. We will!
Old world charm. Good public bar with great ale. Comfortable restaurant area. Rooms were clean and tidy. This hotel is an ancient and dominant feature in a fascinating little town.
Nice pool, staff friendly,
the smell of fish all the time. no shaver point. had to book for a swim.
Location. Friendly staff, beautiful restaurant. Great history.

Fantastic location and very helpful and friendly staff Well stocked bar and the food was excellent.
The hotel was a little tired a bit like myself after 55 miles of cycling.
Evening food was lovely. Staff very nice and helpful. Room was very nice and cosy
The bed I slept was comfy but my legs are long and they were up to the footboard so I had to sleep with them hanging out the bed most of the night
comfortable room swimming pool staff friendliness location
not being told that I had to book a time slot for the pool
Montgomery was a real find as was this little hotel. Staff were helpful and accommodating to our request for early check in. Hotel quirky with lots of character and excellent value with lots of little touches.
Bass on draught. Food was very good.
Breakfast service, due to staff shortage. Generally the hotel could do with a complete revamp.
The location of the Hotel in the middle of the beautiful town of Montgomery is magical. The staff were friendly-ish, probably due to the fact that the Hotel was full and a wedding party had started its siege occupation of the premises. My room was small but very comfortable and the bath a blessing after the toughest days walking on the Offas Dyke Trail. Great food in a wonderful bar.
Location, friendly staff, local beer in the bar, jazz band on the wed evening.
Tatty carpets, leaking toilet in the public gents toilet, average food, instant coffee for breakfast, scruffy walls in corridors, and carpet in the bathrooms which I feel is unhygienic. This hotel could be excellent with some major investment.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ownership has changed recently and the new owner is beginning to make serious improvements - which will take a while. If the hotel could advertise that transfers to and from the 'Offa's Dyke' national trail can be arranged, this will really boost their attractiveness for walkers.
Parts of the hotel are rather 'tired' - but the new owners know this. I dislike criticising such a friendly staff, but maybe one of the waiters could be dressed a bit smarter? This is important when serving food.
The room was quite spacious, with a very comfortable bed and quality bedding. Excellent power shower. Brilliant cooked breakfast. Great position on the square. Regular jazz evenings on Wednesday nights (only until 11.00, so no broken night's sleep). Friendly staff.
I was disappointed to find that the swimming pool was out of commission because of a broken humidity controller. These things happen but I do that a slightly discounted room rate, or voucher, could have been offered to compensate for the loss of this particular facility.
Good food Pool ok Setting in town
Missed booking for 1 dinner Room 1 rather small
Efficient booking in ,helpful staff, good breakfast and service A very pleasant stay.
A quiet bedroom. Dinner in the restaurant was presented well and tasted good, also the breakfast.
The bathroom needed a refit and the bedroom lighting was dim.
