Nestled between two villages in the Somerset countryside, the Dragon House Hotel was a very comfortable, welcoming home from home for our three night break. We enjoyed a pleasant evening walk in the nearby lanes on the first evening and enjoyed walks around Dunster and on Exmoor on the subsequent days. The room was very comfortable, although the bed was a bit squeaky and the room full of character ie. the floor was not quite horizontal, ceiling had low beams, bathroom ceiling not quite high enough to accommodate an over-bath shower. Although the traffic could be heard during the daytime, we were not bothered by noise at night. We ate in for two of our three evenings and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. In particular, the chef's mackerel on a bed of stir-fried vegetables - fish cooked perfectly, and vegetables nicely al dente rather than wilted as in most establishments! We spent lots of time in and around Dunster during our visit, and thoroughly enjoyed touring the Castle and nearby shops, as well as soaking up the historic charms of Porlock and Bossington. Would definitely recommend for a short break.

We liked the quaint building surrounded by flowers. Our room had a lot of character with its low beams and old windows. It was clean and comfortable. We had an additional room up a few stairs which gave us very welcome space. My wife is a vegetarian and she felt that the staff put themselves out to accommodate this. Staff in general were friendly and helpful. The only tbing was that we thought that they needed to refurbish the area around the stairs and the stair carpet. I had a few misgivings initially which were belied when I entered the well presented bedroom.

My husband and I booked the room on a last minute 3 day break special offer which included BB&D, and so we were not expecting the room to be that good. How surprised we were, 6ft bed, spacious room overlooking the garden with dressing room area and a lovely large bathroom. We were not dissapointed with the food either, as it was extremely good, 3 course with a choice from either the al la carte or bar menu which were both excellent. Breakfast again was extremely good. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hotel was very comfortable and had a very attractive 'period' feel about it. It was an ideal location for a week-end away in the country. The dinner menu was well above average and the cooking was superb. ''

A good standard comfortable hotel of history and character We stayed for dinner on two evenings and the two of us ate 3 different courses on both occasions. We gave it "the test". The food is seriously good . The bathroom had character but the lack of height and the shower attachment to the clawfoot bath meant it was difficult to have a proper shower. It was, however, a memorable stay and there are no complaints.

Wow what a little gem. Just outside Minehead. I booked this as I was competeing in the Exmoor Beast early the next day. The room was very comfotable but the biggest surprise was the quality of the food. Very nice dining room with log fire and very high standard of decor. Food was varied and first class. Staff very polite. Overall an excellent little hotel and I would highly recommend it.

We were in much need of a comfortable and relaxing break and the Dragon House certainly provided this. Our room was wonderful - spacious and beautiful. The staff were discrete but friendly and helpful. The hotel was peaceful, warm and welcoming. We would definitely return. Thank you.

I thought the food was excellently presented and very well cooked. The room was luxurious and comfortable Outside balcony was convenient with excellent view. Did not have any ashtrays on outside tables, nowhere to put out cigerettes. Resturant prices at first seemed expensive however once the food came out I though the prices were fair.

A fantastic and quaint country pub, but with service and food that would put a lot of city hotels to shame. (Just watch your head on the low ceilings and beams in the bedroom!!) Very highly recommended.

Very comfortable, with all needs catered for. Food was excellent especially the evening dinner. If we are in this area in the furture would book again. Pity it was on a main road. By the description it seemed as if it would be situated in the middle of the country. Nevertheless it did not spoil our stay.

the staff were very friendly and helpfull the food was excellent the room was comfortable and very clean ,you have to remember to duck with 300 hundred year old ceilings as i found out but that was part of the character of the building it is well situated to get ether up on to the moors or to see some of the local attrations .i would stay there again which is what some other visitors said to us also

The staff were all very friendly and we were greeted warmly even though we arrved early. The hotel building is really old but all the surfaces, the woodwork etc were well polished and spotless. It must be difficult to keep such an old building clean. The portraits on the wall were fascinating. The food was very well presented and tasted delicicious, I was unsettled to notice all the fire doors were blocked open when we went down to our evening meal but were told by the lady in charge that she checked before she locked up I did not feel this was ok and was concerned if they did have a fire the outcome could be worse. It appears the ladies doing the bedrooms use the wedges which is fine until one day someone forgets to unblock the fire door. I noticed downstairs there is a door that closes in the event of fire which would be better. It was difficult to shower due to the lack of water pressure but I guess this is due to the age of the building.

Very comfortable and convenient for our meeting with family in Bridgewater, also to enjoy a weekend country/coast break. Cuisine was excellent, as was table service. We were impressed by the way a short-staffed kitchen coped with absences on the 20th August following a road accident near Dunster, we didn't mind waiting for our dinner in the circumstances! We found our room (10) in the annexe very cosy and comfortable. The problems with TV reception were not the fault of Dragon House. No particular gripes, the access from the Dunster end was a bit scary owing to following traffic having a desperate need to ride on the tail pipe of our car!!!

The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. We took a dog so were limited to one particular room, which was a little cramped but generally OK. The surroundings were very pleasant and relaxing. The food was very nice and good sized helpings. Wi-fi and mobile signals so not great for professionals. Tables were a bit close together so mealtime conversations lacked privacy.

Lovely comfortable room and very quaint hotel, nicely furnished. Nothing too fussy which we like. Cooked breakfasts were delicious. The evening meal was excellent. Wonderful location for walking as you did not need to take the car anywhere - footpath opposite hotel. Beautiful walks. Dunster Castle and Cleeve Abbey nearby. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. The piped music was awful and unnecessary as the hotel had a lovely atmosphere and the music spoiled it. It was out of keeping with the lovely hotel. Service a bit slow at times but did not really bother us as we were not in a hurry but if we had been, it would have been annoying.

This is a pleasant place to stay with a reasonable bar and restaurant. The food was good. Our room had its own entrance and was full of charm; like having your own country cottage. Although backing onto a main road the room was quiet, comfortable and overlooked the garden and near countryside. The breakfast room and breakfast was good quality. This was an ideal hotel for our short stay. The signage for the hotel concentrates on 'rooms available' and we passed the hotel twice as the name of the hotel is small on the board in relation to this.

The htel was a way point in a longer break. All in all the hotel fitted the bill apart from the very slow service in the restuarant on the first evening to which the staff apologised constantly.
