Score from 170 reviews Fabulous
Very comfortable bed, good food, good service.
Restricted parking in this area.
Stylish & great location.
our room needed to be bigger
We were greeted politely by a young man who helped us with our bags and explained the car parking arrangements. The hotel is quirky and we just love quirky. all the staff were polite and most helpful a t all times and did their best to make our stay a nice one. We cannot praise them enough.
wifi availability is not good.
This is a historic building, ideally located in the heart of Shrewsbury and boasting many attractive period features. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are tastefully kitted out in wonderful antique furnishing and decor. We would recommend to anyone who puts these things first.
Potential guests should remember this is not a hotel - it's a five star restaurant with rooms. The rooms are not five star. Despite their beauty, they are small. There was no shaving point in our bathroom, no mini bar, and the non-closing bathroom door and humped bed seemed simultaneously to encourage and discourage intimacy. Most depressing of all, we went to house hunt, and booked on the promise of wifi throughout the hotel. While we were there, the wifi was simply unusable. You could get a brief signal sitting on the toilet, but that rapidly faded, along with one's patience. We pointed this out to staff, but nothing was done while we were there.
This is really a restaurant with a few charming, comfortable rooms. The food in the restaurant was very good and it was nice to simply climb up the stairs after dinner. The location is right in the historic part of Shrewsbury and within walking distance of the train station if you've got a suitcase on wheels.
Two rooms are above the bar and back courtyard. The others are perhaps more private. This wasn't a problem for me since the bar was pretty silent from 9:30 p.m. onwards.
Cannot fault this gorgeous hotel at all! Beautiful rooms, amazing food, cocktails and the friendliest staff I have come across! Excellent!
Grant looked after us really well. Hotel retains many original features and is right in the middle of a beautiful town.
Everything! A very individual experience, great breakfast, stunning building, helpful and efficient service and an unusual but comfortable room - very different! We were sorry that we had to change our booking prior to arrival as we would have liked to stay for longer. We will definitely return.
Nothing - we love the truly individual nature of the whole experience.
The food was fantastic, well presented and well prepared. The restaurant was not busy, but still had good atmosphere and we felt very comfortable. The decor is thoughtful and respectful to the heritage of the building whilst still feeling fresh and modern, and not a little quirky.
Dinner in a Tudor hall
Bed was a bit small
The staff in particular were friendly and welcoming. The food and wine were super and the room beautifully furnished and the bathroom - just enough bling!
At breakfast (Sunday morning) a fellow diner felt it necessary to point out that we were not alone in the dining room. I felt the need to apologise for inconveniencing him. Perhaps if there had been newspapers to hand we would have immersed ourselves in them rather than "talk shop".
Beautiful room ( the Wool room) at the top of the building. Very sweet and cosy with a lovely homely feel. A pretty Alice in Wonderland door into the bathroom. Gorgeous home cooked breakfast and friendly helpful staff.
Couldn't find any fault at all with the hotel except parking isn't the easiest and you really need to ring ahead to book that to ensure a parking spot. But then you shouldn't always expect to be able to park in the centre of a town so it's not a negative just something to be aware of.
Efficient girl at breakfast (she seemed out of place here).
Cramped hotel with no parking (this is a major problem in Shrewsbury). A lot of external noise. One of the worst arrivals I've ever had. Checked in by inexperienced, indifferent boy. Restaurant was closed, even though we booked. Room right above the bar, even though we requested a quiet one. Receptionist talking to his girlfriend outside. Told me to shut the window when I leaned out to ask him to stop. This in 28 degrees (obviously no air con). When I asked to speak with owner he was on holiday. Terrible.
Beautiful building full of character. Nice outdoor decking area.
The restaurant was closed due to work being carried out which was disappointing as one of my reasons for booking was for the food also another reason for booking was for the jacuzzi bath which upon arrival we were told was not working. I did check on this a few days prior but my telephone call was not retuened.
The staaf had a very wellcoming attitude. The interior of the house was very attractive.
The view from the window of the room into a Backyard wasn´t pleasant
The breakfast was wonderful. One of our best decisions was to stay here. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
Great room (more like an apartment really) with all you could wish for in comfort. Very friendly and helpful staff (we arrived before 09.00 just to drop our bags off and we were allowed into the room from then with no extra charge).
Everything was great.
Location, staff, breakfast & hotel original features
Wi-fi didn't work in our room, however as we were on holiday it didn't matter.
Lovely place, excellent food and atmosphere. Would defiantly go again.
Location, restaurant, ambiance (wonderful old building). Inexpensive public parking was available nearby.
Price fairly high.
Bed. We did reservation of King size bedroom. There was not king-size.
Decor is as expected for a boutique type hotel. Bar is funky and serves good cocktails. Rooms nicely decorated.
Steak's weren't cooked as requested (one came back as rare, rather than medium) and quality of steak wasn't great compared to House of the Rising Sun restaurant in Shrewsbury. Was a bit tough and not v tasty.
Breakfasts! Fantastic, staff, great, room super. What can I say, there was nothing bad.
The bell in the local church.
The Wool Suite was so lovely. The full english breakfast was one of the most enjoyable breakfasts we have ever had at a hotel.
Great welcome and service. Very central for town centre. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Very quaint and pretty hotel. Would stay here again.
It was great to have tea and coffee facilities but change the cups they were tiny!! Also mirror in the bathroom was great for looking at your lower body. Just need to move it to the wall on left at head height. This was in the Teal room.
