Score from 709 reviews Very good
good position in city, very comfortable and super breakfast
very noisy, window offers very poor soundproofing so sleep disturbed. Also very draughty from window
Breakfast was very good
The bed was very uncomfortable and the lighting in the bedroom was poor. Also paying £150 for a room I shouldn't have to pay extra for a bottle of water!!
room size was excellent
1st floor, front of hotel ,poor sound proofing meant the traffic noise was very loud, resulting in hardly any sleep. The window blinds were ill fitting and allowed light pollution from street lighting into the room. The actual room lighting was very poor with small ceiling spotlights and no lighting around the 2 mirrors in the room which did not please my partner. This was for a room I had upgraded to. After complaining the upgrade was refunded !!! says it all
Location, valet park
Cleanliness, lack of staff interest/friendliness
Everything was perfect, the staff were accommodating, helpful and friendly, the food was amazing with an equiste menu choice. Everything you would expect from this calibre of hotel, my only complaint is that we weren't staying another night. Thank you Hotel du Vin, we'll be back soon.
The pillows were a bit soft otherwise everything was excellent
Bed and bedding Staff Breakfast
Everything. Love the atmosphere, super comfy bed, huge bath, and really peaceful despite being just a short walk from Birmingham city centre.
the staff, the valet parking, the restaurant, the lounge/bar, the location
Bars and restaurants were very good. .
No rack/ledge in shower.
The former late Victorian Eye Hospital is a beautiful building and is excellent for a large, comfortable hotel. Our room was very spacious, warm, elegant and comfortable. The staff at reception and in the breakfast room, could not have been more friendly and helpful, for example in suggesting we left our luggage for a few hours whilst we visited the Birmingham Art Gallery on our morning of departure..
Our bed was a little hard, in the opinion of both of us. The breakfast was not quite right - the black pudding very salty and the bacon leathery rather than crisp (though the eggs were excellently fried, and the fresh tomato was very welcome).
Quiet hotel very friendly staff enjoyed my stay. Shower was really nice couldn't fault the bathroom apart from tobacco smell.
mattress had stains, pillows had stains, Bathroom had a tobacco smell.
Excellent accommodation which was very comfortable. Very customer related staff. Ideally sited for what we wanted.
The evening meal I took was excellent. I had a problem with Wi-Fi which was dealt with well
Extra touches in the room such as coffee machine, champagne flutes & bath robes gave luxury feel at fantastic price point. Dinner at the Bistro was great and staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful & professional.
Very very minor point but I would love a mug on the in-room tea & coffee tray - sometimes a small cup of tea is just not enough!!!!
The location was handy for us, the room was nice with a really powerful shower and the champagne bar was great!
Staff were great public rooms excellent
Bed was very hard and consequently very little sleep. Noisy due to single glazing. Room too hot. Hot water failed ( but staff dealt with this very well)
shower in bathroom was very good and breakfast was excellent
I loved the old french charm the staff in the bars, bistro and hotel. Room was large and spacious and the shower was amazing!
Rooms were very dark would like a lamp or lights surrounding the mirror to do my makeup and dry my hair it was very dark.
nice old building easy access to all locations
car parking expensive
The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and polite. Breakfast was plentiful and great quality. Wish I could have eaten more - but I was running that morning. Lovely bath/shower with plenty of hot water.
We weren't notified that there was a wedding happening at the hotel the night we stayed. The 'disco' was in the room underneath ours - not conducive to a good night's sleep. Other hotels we have used notify us of this as we book - so we can make an informed choice. Not at 9pm when no other rooms available :-(
Great french food; well cooked and presented. Room was nicely decorated with natural soap products.
Welcoming, friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable, spacious room - glorious monsoon shower, great bed - much needed after long day and late concert! Excellent leisurely breakfast - very sensible checkout time, no rush! We'll be back!!
