    Hotel position great, the ambience of the bar was particularly good, very fine room for cocktails, dinner superb too, rooms very good and well equipped.

    Bistro was good but expensive, staff were helpful, breakfast was very good. Pillows was lovely just about right.

    Our room was very dark even with lights up full it felt dingy and dull likewise the corridor's were also very dull with poor lighting. Drinks very expensive and bed a tad hard ! I would but recommend but only after after explaining a bit about the hotel !

    En route from Devon to Suffolk. A friendly welcome from Martha who kindly found us another room as the stairs were very steep. Nothing was too much trouble and we were pleased with our room - so peaceful. We had a delicious dinner in the Bistro. Thank you to all the cheerful staff. We will come again. Vicky from East Anglia

    Location was good for the main areas of Cheltenham. The separate bath and shower was excellent

    Parking - lack of spaces,no access from rear car park into the hotel and front car park had very restricted access. Reception area was a bit crowded and entrance had quite slippery steps which was not the easiest to use. Corridors were used as storage space by the restaurant and also by the rooms.

    Bed was comfortable. Good mini bar Robes and towels

    Shower was powerfull but the shower curtain was to close to my body and restricted movement and it was too easy for water to escape and wet the floor. Not possible to fill the kettle from the tap without having to use a separate glass to fill the kettle. Vanity mirror offset from main unit, making it difficult to use.!

    Soft sheets and great toiletries.

    Mini bar was half used and milk had gone off. Mugs were dirty in room. Sinks in bathroom are awful, they are shallow and caused floor to flood. When I brought this to the attention of staff no apology or willingness to make my stay better.

    The location.

    The cold water in our room was hot! The plumbing needs looking at!! I felt that the restaurant prices were too high and, for a French type restaurant, a prix fixe menu would be nice.

    Quality of food in restaurant at dinner was good.

    Expensive bar drinks. Food and drinks in room were extremely expensive. Electric tripped out a number of times in room when using the iron. Generator outside room was noisy all through the night, In the morning upon check out when I was asked how my stay was I reported the noise issue and was surprised at the complete lack of acknowledgement. They came accross generally disinterested. Not even a sorry, why bother asking if you clearly don't care one iota? Staffed seemed sparse at times and in my opinion under experienced, not great value for the price paid. £17 for breakfast, seriously!?!

    Location Staff member with glasses who helped us locate room and was generally very helpful

    Dead plants and planters Lack of attention to detail No vinaigrette available for lunchtime salad - ended up being given the dipping oil and balsamic for bread - awful! Reception was poor, gave us no info at all, no help with luggage or location of basement car park

    There were cigarette ends left by previous guests in our room. Only one towel was provided, and we had to request a second one. The Nespresso machine still contained the used coffee capsules, which had not been cleared out. Overall, the room had not been properly serviced and cleaned!

    The hotel ambience and decor was good. The room was a good size and comfortable with spacious en-suite

    The reception staff were untrained on arrival, didn't know the room locations in the building and the check out system was a slow and cumbersome procedure. The breakfast service was quite slow, the food was very ordinary and basic considering the price and again staff didn't seem well trained in this area. The design of the Monsoon shower over the bath was poor, no soap tray or place to put shampoo while trying to prevent the shower water from flooding the floor while wrestling with the shower curtain. The corridor lighting was too dim making it difficult to see to place the room key into the door lock.

    The staff and the food

    My bedroom was below ground level and had frosted windows as there was a raised terrace, with tables and chairs immediately outside of them, I hated not being able to look out of the window. It also made the room dark. Also outside the window must have been some sort of generator which was loud and was going 24 hrs, so getting off to sleep wasn't easy. Also the shower leaked under the shower screen so I stepped out of the shower into a large pool of water. I have stayed at this hotel before and had a very comfortable room. I would not want this room again so will definitely not book through booking.com again.

    room blind didn't work cold tap in sink broken sink cracked food very average and expensive surly and uninterested wine waiter The first room allocated was a joke with no door between room and toilet

    Hotel du Vin style and staff friendliness

    First room we were offered was next to industrial fan/vent which made a terrible noise! Second room was quieter but décor and bathroom were quite tired. Hotel spaces are quite large and not intimate feeling. Overall not to the standard we've experienced at other HdVs. It was a poor HdV experience.
