Great rooms, large and comfortable bed, staff friendly and good bars & bistro.
Good size room, clean, very comfortable bed. I had the best sleep in ages. Staff were very helpful, and when we got back late from the theatre, they kindly prepared us supper in the dining room.
The hotel is very convenient The rooms are attractive and have everything one requires
The service is quite impersonal
Reception , breakfast , staff
Room overlooked outdoor area and one night people outside were noisy until eleven pm . Also the lights in this area were just below my window and there were lots of them and they were also very bright
dinner in restaurant is okay but could be better.
The location was ideal and staff excellent
The lighting in the bedroom was totally inadequate.
Getting away from the overpriced bar
The fact they charged me an additional £50 upfront charge for damages which I would then get back after my stay ??????? Why ?Answers on a postcard please .......
Loved the atmosphere in the communal areas. The food in bistro was excellent.
Small bedrooms & lack of storage
it is a bit expensive but is a high quality hotel
No hot water and no effort made regarding recompense eg even the cost of a coffee
Lovely hotel in the old Asylumn. Slate floors exposed sandstone and beams with luxurious touches of leather couches and subtle tartan accessories. Darker inside due to age of building but room spacious with monsoon shower and free standing bath in main bedroom. (Separate wc with hand basin) underfloor heating in bathroom and room we had was on the top level ad had a small balcony lookin onto courtyard seating. Didn't see any ghosts, thank goodness, so had a fab sleep in the huge bed.
Lighting in room was a bit dim at night but this adds to atmosphere No parking at hotel, so be ready just to drop bags at reception and take your car to the Quartermile NCP. But still well worth staying.
Very helpful staff, very comfortable rooms, and the food was excellent.
Hard to fault.
The restaurant was excellent - the wine tasting facilities and whisky tasting were well done. Great staff in restaurant. Very interesting menu.
The front desk staff was not helpful. My husband and I do not like duvets and when we asked for a blanket they did not have any. We slept with the duvet cover and bathroom towels. this is just not acceptable for a 4-star hotel. The hotel also did not provide parking - we had to go to a parking garage far from the hotel, and then they didn't even cover the cost. Very inconvenient, to say the least. The staff was also not helpful in giving directions to places in the city.
breakfasts were excellent, bed was comfortable, shower was excellent although only of any good to a fit person since bath steep and required to be climbed in.
Too expensive. Off to Corfu next week at a fraction of the price paid to stay in Edinburgh. Presumably cashing in on the Fringe. Room was small for its cost.
Staff let us check in early as it was my birthday and I had a show in the festival to do and needed to check in early. very accomodating. High ceilings, stunning building, lots of character, felt like a one off boutique hotel, room service was delicious. beautiful deep bath and lovely bubble bath soap etc and soft fluffy gowns. Utter relaxation.
Great hotel, breakfast & dinner in bistro were excellent. Very central location. Easy access to Royal Mile & Castle, which is what we wanted. Would definitely book again. Alyson Huddersfield
Despite being full and obviously busy in all areas of the hotel the majority of staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely decor and room despite being small was designed & decorated well. Restaurant food for breakfast and dinner was very good.
This is one of many stays at the H de V Edinburgh. For me it's a favourite. Very close to the centre, quiet, comfortable and quirky in a good way.
The only down side is the lack of parking. Your options are either a car park 5-7 mins away which if it's raining is a pain and it's expensive or road parking which again is expensive. Other than that no complaints.
Excellent breakfast, comfortable bedding and wonderful shower.
The room was noisy - not loud music or anything but you could constantly hear people walking in the room above/next door plus I think there were water pipes nearby which were also noisy. All the noise made sleeping difficult. Another problem was the lack of bar service in the downstairs seating area. This was reported to Reception.
The atmosphere was excellent-the rooms were attractive and full of amenities. Very comfortable.
Location Staff Rooms Breakfast
Nice location...nice rooms....loved the shower and old fashioned tub in the room.
No parking on site
Beautiful Courtyard and Bistro Area
Room was very small - definately not worth the money. real shame because the hotel was lovely. Would have paid the extra for a suite if I had been made aware of the lack of space in a normal room
Lovely roll top bath, comfy huge bed, nice crisp bedding. &Quot;Doctors" pub round the corner did a decent steak and was running a cider festival!
Room decor a bit worn, broken curtain pole, lighting in room a bit too quirky.
