We spent 3 nights in Edinburgh celebrating our anniversary and Hotel du Vin lived up to every expectation. The staff were excellent, the room was fabulous and the location just perfect. Special thanks to Sarah Weber on reception, who helped make our stay a perfect one.
Comfortable bed and great showe
From check in to check out I was met by sullen unfriendly staff, it is such a pity because the hotel is ok but didn't feel welcomed or valued as a guest - one guy almost walked over me as he passed me in the corridor ... Obvious internal politics here.
Quality of decor and furnishings An oasis Wonderfully helpful staff Pet friendly Well worth the short cab ride from Waverley --SUCH an improvement on the Princes St Mercures and junky motels like that. Reasonable, fair rates.
Needed more hooks in bathroom Lots of stairs and turnings to find the room.
Great ambiance. Lovely restaurant in a period property. Loved the 1st floor bar area and comfy chairs.
Limited views of the City. Drink prices are above average.
Loved the food and wine, the room was a bit small but adequate, had asked for an upgrade but nothing was available. Unfortunately our stay was marred by my wife's illness, we would love to go back but frankly the prices of the rooms are prohibitive and the parking is inconvenient. Maybe once the dusts of the upcoming festivities have blown away we will have another go.
Need more Nespresso capsules - 4 is just mean. Mini bar bottled water exorbitant.
Powerful shower, comfy bed, quality tea/coffee making facilities in the room, building has character, fabulous breakfast.
Room was small, price was not. No mention of available parking on the website. Only found out there was discounted parking at a public carpark close by, by overhearing another guest at reception.
Bathroom was not clean & heating did not work & couldn't be repaired during our stay
The staff were excellent and friendly. Enjoyed the restaurant, food was good with wine selection varied. Great ambience!
The standard room was small but after asking for alternative, the excellent staff catered for our needs, even although the hotel was full. The excellent staff make this hotel an ideal stop in Edinburgh, will be back to this hotel!
located close by great Museum
beautiful modern shower with long slippery floor - needed two rubber mats. Too sleek for mature couple, no handles in shower. Separate bathtub which looked charming but we shower. not as friendly as Hotel du Vin in St Andrews
Fantastic staff, very very accommodating to every request we made they couldn't have been more helpful. Food was fantastic, the hotel played a huge part in making our wedding the most special day of our life
No toilet door on the master suite bathroom. Room was slightly dark, I'm really really struggling to find any bad points.
The rooms although small were gorgeous as east be text of the hotel. Dinner at the bistro was exceptional.
Breakfast was overpriced for what it was, that was the only disappointing aspect of the stay
Friendly and welcoming staff.
It's getting a bit tired: the shower rail has obviously fallen down a few times and did with us; the curtain blind was broken and one of the bathroom lights was out.
Quirkiness of the layout, beautiful furnishings, central location & luxurious room
The superior room is on the top floor & lift only goes to floor 2. It's a feature of the hotels history as an old (asylum) building but those with mobility problems might benefit from knowing this when booking
£400 sat on my c card still and we are 3 days post check out. Staff have consistently failed to either explain or resolve this, rather hoping it will resolve itself. Hopeless
Location, building, courtyard leading to reception & all facilities to guests were comfortable & relaxing.
Stayed at Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow previously & room absolutely alien to what we received in glasgow. Would also be interested on whether or not booking through booking.com influenced the room that we received. Also, wouldn't say that the staff gave you the most engraciating of feelings
Good location near university Staff helpful Clean, modern facilities
No shower cap and a large fixed shower-head. Impossible to shower without having to wash long hair. Coffee machine difficult to master -only achieved a luke warm cup of coffee, no complimentary biscuits. At £129 for single occupancy without breakfast it was poor value
Communal areas very stylish
Bedrooms totally plain, small and without any style at all
Really nice hotel. ..room was lovely. .unfortunately I was unwell so missed breakfast but hubby said it was lovely. .
Staff at reception were helpful and the room was very clean
Only two TV channels worked, a bit disappointing after a very long first day traveling and we just wanted a relaxing evening in the room. The service at breakfast was poor, the waiter was very off hand and the waitress forgot our toast, even after two requests.
Our stay was amazing , we couldnt really fault anything. We were also upgrated to a bigger room which was a massive bonus. Thank you
Location, friendliness, atmosphere
breakfast a good quality small and cosy hotel
noisy airconditioning. attitude from a small number of dining room staff
I came to visit my daughter at university, so an excellent location to begin with. The room was amazing, the staff very nice, and the Halloween dinner party- drinks, private dining room, ghost stories by talented actor, super food- was a fab bonus.
Nothing, although the hotel is pricey, so obviously one would always like to pay a little less!
The hotel told Booking.com they could not put a second bed in a double room. In consequence we had to leave a son at home on bis mother's birthday. When we arrived they had placed a second bed in the room anyway. Too late he was 250 miles away on his own. The hotel blamed Booking.com. Whoever was at fault we lost out at an important time.
