lovely size of room-didnt feel cramped as in some hotel rooms. Although 4* ,it was well on a par with some 5* ,even had a nespresso machine :)

We've really enjoyed our staying in hotel! Restaurant - food and vines - were excellent, we liked everything, no remarks!

Very good quality complimentary snacks when you order a drink at the bar. Bar staff very professional. Very good central location for Edinburgh. Allowed us to have a late checkout at noon free of charge.

On arrival to our room it was very visually appealing and had a nice king size bed but there was an unpleasant bathroom smell throughout which was unromantic to say the least. We asked to see another room because of it. The staff were more than helpful in showing us another room but the only other available was completely charmless like some cheap travelodge room - hardly what I would expect for a £175 per night price tag! So we decided to keep the smelly room but asked for them to spray some air freshener. When we asked the reception staff they visited the room and said they couldn't understand what we were smelling! Either they had no sense of smell or they were just trying to cover over it. Not impressed! They eventually brought some air freshener which combined with keeping the windows open for a few hours whilst we were out helped a bit. Maybe a complimentary drink whilst they sorted out the problem would have been a more professional approach on their part. Would not recommend to friends for this reason.

Everything,have stayed in this hotel 6 times now and absolutely love it.

The variety of food and wine was fantastic. A very relaxed and cosy ambience to the place. Easy 5-10min walk to city centre so no need for taxis. The staff were all extremely polite and helpful. Been telling everyone to stay here!!

We've stayed here before and had a bigger room. Our room was facing the main road so a little noisy but the +ve far out weigh the -ves.

We liked all of it. Just the right location for us, very comfortable and friendly and an excellent restaurant.

The only problem is lack of parking, but there is a car park near by.

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel du Vin Edinburgh with our two little dogs We loved the hotel, the decor,and the excellent cuisine. With a great location right next to the best music bar in town Sandy Bells and friendly helpful staff we would love to visit again some time soon. We would certainly the Hotel du Vin when we plan our next city break

Location smack bang in old town. Lovely bathrooms. Extremely comfy beds

No movie channels. No spa. No cooked breakfast in bed.

Typically classy HduV. Good location, non-fussy, efficient staff, excellent room.

Edge of the bed somewhat sharp, cracked my shin on that!

Decor. Professionalism and welcoming of all Staff.

Reception area needs a little more attention to warmth against cold Edinburgh days/nights. A "comfi" Arm Chair in the Bedroom would have finished it off perfectly. Stronger light in Bedroom preferred.

Some of the food was disappointing very salty frys and the rissoto tasted of vinager. The breakfast was nice but there could have been more of it for the price of £14.95

When we arrived our room had been upgraded to a suite which was beautiful. Hotel covers all bases as far as accessories supplied. A real treat to stay in.

Service at breakfast was a bit of a shambles. Fair enough the fire alarm went off and we all had to assemble outside but only for 5 minutes. In all we sat for 55 minutes to get served and gave up eventually. Other guests were having to chase waiting staff to take their orders too. Experience wouldn't put us off staying at the hotel again but will probably choose not to use the restaurant facilities.

free standing bath was amazing and the room was very comfortable. Room service was great and the food was also great.

Breakfast Sheets and pillows

Nothing worked I'm room due to fuse going and not sorted or checked before hand. Made to feel like I was fussing and then a very long winded apology was enough. Only got compensation after paying, when I pointed out to them that it wasn't great not to be able to use anything. Decor in rooms very like every where else.

Loved the location, the bars on the different levels, the food, the bedroom and the toiletries in bathroom. Loved the fact it was an old asylum in fact that's what made me pick it over other hotels. Will be back!

The fact you couldn't check in until 15.00 hrs. This is a very late check in when you have an early flight. However we did leave in bags in hotel early. Most other hotels are 14.00 hrs checkin. The breakfast was very delayed on our final day and we were very conscious of our taxi pickup (11.05) as we had a 12.55 flight.

Bar and lounge areas very nice - when guests could get access to them - see negative comments

Demanded sign out for umbrellas on rainy day, the main lounge was booked for most of the weekened by large marriage parties, which meant was out of bounds for guests and no where else to sit, booking.com pffer of free one meal was limited to £15 per person which didnt even start to cover the a la carte menu and we had to choose from rather boring lunch time menu fixe. I thought the bargains being offered at other hotels at this time of year made this hotel seem over priced for what it offered - partic condiering no spa facilities. Good for beautiful young people but not for me who was taing my 20 year old daughter away fror sightseeing weekend abd would have preferred less of a party atmosphere. Room was tiny for two people and bathroom too small to swing a cat - this was apparently standard double room, although I have been in single rooms that were larger!

Location, staff, food, wines,decor, amenties.

Room small, but can live with that, it was not though spotless, and it was rather noisy. That latter point was annoying, one could hear other guests and the plumbing....

Location was fantastic with access to the Royal Mile within easy walking distance. Great use of space for our superior room.

Booked into the Bistro on the final evening after eating at other fantastic venues including the Witchery. Menu was good but unfortunately because it was New Year there was a shortfall on dishes and therefore replaced with frozen foods - not good. I would rather have a reduced menu than dishes replaced with make shift frozen foods. The bill was knocked off the stay which was a nice gesture.

The room was very comfortable with luxury accessories in the bathroom. The position of the hotel was ideal for exploring and shopping.

We were on a winter special but were enticed by a different menu. The waiter apologised and gave us the prixe fixe menu which was not up to much. We ordered of the normal menu and only paid a supplement for this.(did not know this until I paid the bill in the morning.)
