Location, price, heritage and history.
No air con, unable to open window fully meant for a hot, uncomfortable room.
Grand appearance Atmosphere Cosy
Location very close to ferry port. Clean room with comfortable chairs and working TV.
A hotel well past its best with minimum staff available. The limited car parking was full and had to park about 300 meters away, not easy for someone with walking difficulties. The large bed almost filled the room floor area making it difficult to walk round. Pillows were to soft and offered no support. Hooks on the bathroom door were so high a short person, 5ft 4ins could not reach them. Bathroom linen was stored above the toilet. One bath tap was leaking which was reported to the staff.
Good quality room and bed but poor outlook. Would try and get front elevation 4th or 5th floors if coming again. Staff friendly. Breakfast service excellent. Time arrival to get a parking space or its pay and display.
The lovely decor, wide spiralling staircases, large, clean and attractive bedrooms. Superb breakfast. Location to shops and theatre.
Nothing it was just perfect
Shower floor uneven
Superb room with unique period details.
There was a pub next door that had live music. The noise was only a problem when customers were entering or leaving.
This was our 4th visit and as usual we were very pleased with our stay. The staff are helpful, friendly and efficient and the choice of food for breakfast is excellent, freshly cooked and served to your table. I would thoroughly recommend this grand old hotel which retains it's original features but is modernised to a standard expected today
Service and room
Bar food - not good
The food was ok but having stayed in a lot of Hotels, I thought it was over priced. The service at Breakfast was good.
The Hotel looked very tired, decoratively speaking. I had to report FOUR defects in my room. Whether they were rectified, I do not know.
My room was a disabled room which had no shower curtain. A raked toilet seat (very uncomfortable) and the room had a very sickly sweet smell as if a strong air freshener had been applied to mask a smell (smoking?)
All of it
Very noisy at night.
The whole atmosphere of the hotel was excellent. Very welcoming and all staff were very polite and helpful.
Can't think of anything.
Location was good for our visit
Car parking was very limited and not sufficient for the size of the hotel.
Very limited bar space with no available seating in the evening, and over a half hour wait for breakfast to be served the next morning.
Imposing architecture, very friendly service, plush and elegant interior to hotel main rooms - almost a step back in time. sweeping staircases and comfortable 4 poster bed. Excellent breakfast choices.
Position was great Breakfast was just ok The bed was great and the shower
Room was small There was a smell that was like old Hoover bags throughout the hotel (not in dining room) You could tell that the last time they revamped the place was during the eighties .
It was so noisy. Not nice. And no one cared.
The room was fine.
What let it down, was the water pressure was very poor. The staff where told on departure
Fab suite room with separate living area, very friendly staff, comfortable surroundings and an excellent breakfast brought to our room
CREAKS AND WATER RUNNING NOISES
Large room with very good facilities
Smallcar park iwas informeď that if i moved the car i would not back on as the car was loaded i chose to stay My aďvice get there early
Generally the hotel was ideal for my needs.
Dinner in the restaurant was quite poor, I was very disappointed. I have visited the hotel quite a few times in the last couple of years and this was the first time I had dinner. I would not have an evening meal in the restaurant again.
Polite, helpful staff Lovely hot water and showers, toilet flushed nicely. Was able to leave my luggage on the last day ( without an extra charge). Nice to have a kettle in the room
The menu was the same for the four days that I was there but fortunately I was booked for bed-and-breakfast not for half/full board. The heating wasn't on all the time. I feel a fresh toilet roll each day was a little unnecessary but nice from a safety (from germs) point of view and some tape across the toilet each day???? A bit quiet for my liking, and a bit too far out of town and busy areas.
