“Its charming period style and feel of a scottish 19th c castle with excellent food in the main and friendly service”
Thomas,
London
This striking Victorian hotel located by Loch Rannoch and the 'Schiehallion' mountain dominates the village square of Kinloch Rannoch and boasts friendly and efficient staff. Privately-owned and run, the hotel occupies a prominent position overlooking a small village, 13 miles from highway A9, north of Pitlochry. Bedrooms have picturesque views, and even the smallest rooms have recently been refurbished. Rooms are individually decorated with antique and modern style furniture, and a mixture of fabrics and furnishings. In larger rooms there are comfortable armchairs from where you can gaze out of the window. Very popular as a weekend getaway, the hotel’s facilities include a lounge room with log fire, a quiet conservatory, a small whiskey bar with a very large collection of malt whiskeys, and an elegant oak paneled dining room serving a range of seasonal and classic dishes with a modern personality. We found the rooms to be clean and tidy, the double bed was very cumfy. Breakfast was delicious everything you will need to keep you going till dinner. The dining room was typical of a Highland retreat it added to the feel good factor in getting away for the weekend. We enjoyed our stay and will be going back. The location was central to some scenic walks and mountain climbing which was our purpose for our visit.

Great location, quiet friendly and good food and drink. Rooms well layer out and quite spacey. Can take a while to get back out onto the main roads for travelling about due to its location. Local village life is virtually dead.

The hotel was nice however very cold. There was little heating throughout the hotel. Log fires in the main areas were not lit through the day. Meals on the restaurant were of a good standard but portion sizes very disappointing. Breakfast was also poor. Not enough food to go round and also not a great variety. The room did not have any drawer space and were also very cold. The hotel is in need of upgrading. Rain water was leaking through the brickwork and pouring onto the carpet. We had to ask for the room to be made up when we came back later in the day. All very disappointing.

The quaint locale was very pretty. The appearance from the outside was attractive. The room was well worn. The bed was lumpy. The King bed had two pillows. When I asked for extra pillows I was told they didn't have any and that I should use the "decorative pillows" which were on the bed. They were obviously stained and soiled so that was not an option. Very sad.

Easy to find location, although the entrance was not that well posted. The food was reasonable value, with the starters very good (Cullen Skink and Chicken Liver parfait was excellent) The main meals were nothing to write home about, but the pastry chef knows his/her stuff. I had Chocolate Fondant which was just about the best I've had..the other half had Cranachan which although good suffered by comparison. The cooked breakfast was kept warm in a bain maree arrangment and although the bacon and sausage looked a little un-appettising were in fact very tasty. Best bit was the black pudding The only really bad things I could say about our stay was a few niggles with the room, and a couple of comments on the general standards. Beds were incredibly hard (2 singles joined together to form a King) , the bathroom door wouldn't shut and the cistern re-filled when it felt like it, only slightly embarrasing! The dining room, whilst having loads of character, was a little tired, with lots of chairs needing re-covered, and quite a few cobwebs on the light fittings. The carpet was also very poorly fitted.

Excellent location to explore beautiful surrounding area in Perthshire - warm welcome with friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful wood pannelled dining room with impressive antler chandeliers create warm and inviting atmosphere for eating. Bedrooms tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Menu in the dining room was too big - trying to cater too widely. Would prefer less choice and better quality.

excellent location and pleasant surroundings. not enough staff on in the evening to cater for the overbooking of the dining room......we walked out of the restuarant after waiting an age for our dessert order. then we ordered coffee and it took another 35 minutes for it to arrive. so we then adjourned to the bar outside and had a great night with a few of the locals!!!

The pub had a very good friendly ambiance and entertainment in the evening. The food in the hotel was of a very good quality We waited over 40 mins to be booked in as no one knew how to do it and the owner had gone home (30 minutes from hotel) We were given keys for the wrong type of room that we had booked and it had not been serviced (17.30hrs!) On the second night we (and most of the other diners) waited over an hour for our order to be taken even though the owner kept coming into the dining room to move tables and chairs around.

Everyone was very welcoming. The hotel is relaxed - not over fussy- and comfortable. The views are spectacular. Food was well presented and good. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast on the Sunday was not as relaxed as on the Saturday - a lack of staff and a large party arriving down at the same time as us meant delays and mixed up orders. Fresh fruit would have been good at breakfast - dried apricots and prunes seemed an odd selection but the cooked breakfasts were excellent.

A nice, friendly hotel in a lovely setting. We were visiting friends in the area. Nice Room. Nice Breakfast. The price we paid was not "budget" but there are few hotels in that area. In the end......we paid "over the odds" in order to have accommodation near to the friends who we were visiting and without having to drive a long way to see them and after seeing them. The food whilst edible was overpriced. The Stables Bar is a hole of a place. Do not go here for a relaxing or romantic week-end break - you will be disappointed.
