The hotel's location (close to Whitby) was very convenient but at the same time quiet and peaceful. Our room (in the modern annexe) was not the best we've ever stayed in, but by no means the worse. The public areas at the hotel were impressive. The best thing about the hotel was its staff, all of whom were polite and helpful. The food at the hotel (dinner and breakfast) in our opinion was terrible. Overpriced and almost inedible.

Location, architecture. By day 2 staff seemed to know me and acknowledged me. Breakfast sausage which, all else being equal distinguishes the hotels in which I stay. I waited an inordinate time to have my evening meal order taken and breakfast served . On reflection perhaps this was because I was travelling alone. Did I look as if I was waiting for My partner?

Food was good but expensive. Rooms were comfortable but shower was little more than a trickle of water. Getting to the rooms through cramped stairs was unpleasant. Finally, cleaners wedged open fire doors which was not reassuring. Poor showers. Access to rooms poor.

very nice buidling and location Not focused on the customer - their guest information was actually a list of instructions. Hotel dated and old fashioned although surroundings very pleasant. Basically had a feel of a 1950s guest house. Very expensive for what it was.

Beautiful surroundings and wonderful building. Staff efficient, friendly but not intrusive. The meal on the Sunday evening was a little disappointing in places.

Lovely, well appointed room with bird feeders outside the window; good food. Very quiet. A cheaper place to eat would have been welcome, e.g. a brasserie.

Beautiful, well preserved country house with original oak panelled rooms, stained glass leaded windows - timeless. Lovely local staff with no airs or pretentions - just very helpful. The only very minor thing I didn't like was the many warnings about not smoking, extra charges for damage to bedroom, extra charge for overstaying by up to an hour, etc. I can only assume these were meant for over indulgent wedding guests?

Quiet and peaceful. Room could have done with a good clean, tp of door architraves, bulbs in bedside lights etc. Food was good but the portions were very small. We are experienced fine diners and my Wife is a qualified Chef so we do know what we are talking about.

This was the second time we visited Dunsley Hall, a wonderful hotel, warm, very comfortable, stylish and with considerable ambience - the fire in the bar is a welcome addition in the winter months, The hotel has a real feel of comfort, the staff are very helpfull and nothing is too much trouble. We will continue our visits to Dunsley Hall for the forseable future.

The meals were superb with all the trimmings added as well ie nibbles, soup, sherbet between courses. It was out the way and hard to find even though it was well signposted. We felt we were on the wrong lanes at times
