Minor grumble - shower was over the bath where I prefer a separate shower cubicle. At least it had a glass screen and not a curtain.
Wi-fi didn't work in the room although there was a signal. Downstairs it connected immediately.
Quiet rural location only 5 minutes from Whitby harbour and, from my room, a glimpse of the sea. An excellent base for visiting the N Yorkshire Moors. Good, well marked parking area. An impressive building that retains the layout and features of the grand home that it once was. Room was large, clean, well decorated and furnished in the period style. It had those thoughtful extras such as hot drinks making facility, trouser press, bottled water, dressing gown and suitcase stand. Plenty of storage space. Bed was comfortable with a variety of pillows to choose from. Large bathroom, refurbished in period style.
The restaurant and bar are grand and spacious with wood panelling and comfortable seating. Dinner menu changes every day and meals are cooked and presented to a high standard. Vegetables were a bit too crunchy in my view but the portions were generous. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice.
I will stay here again, far better than being in town or in a chain hotel.
