Clean room. Lovely staff. Nice breakfast. Rooms a bit smaller than shown in photographs but still good size.
Location Room Comfort
I couldn't open the curtains because everyone would see me in the room. A luxury room should not be next to the noisy bar. We had pass through a huge crowd to access the room.
Breakfast was excellent .
We were accommodated across a busy road in an annex . The one reception room here was occupied by a group of women running some sort of make up party ( at least 6/7 people) we were made to feel very uncomfortable and couldn't use the room
- Shower was very refreshing, although size was limiting - Breakfast was very good - Staff were very polite and helpful - Location was spot on for our visit (Rugby)
- No draft beer/lager - Not informed of charge (extortionate) for water when having evening meal - Irish coffee, cost again extortionate. worked out at £4 for the actual coffee and £2.95 for the rum. - £4 for a 330ml bottle of Peroni! Come on. - Restaurant prices very high for what is served.
Staff were friendly, helpful and unfazed by it being a Murrayfield weekend. Charming and elegant building. Didn't have dinner there but breakfast was very good.
Lovely room very clean but most of the staff were very good polite, helpfull, and professional but with a lovely friendly manner. WELL DONE!!!
Noise level outside but we are use to the quiet country life.
The cooking was exceptional, politeness of staff.
room was at the end of a corridor that the staff used.which made it nosy The room needed a one way system to get around very small,
Nice attentive staff , great breakfast , good location
Room 7 too small for a couple .
The hotel was comfortable
The food was slow, our room was downstairs next to public bathrooms and laughing and talking of staff and guests could be heard at all times
The building us great and its location in Edinburgh is perfect. We had a four poster bed and it was so comfortable but a little noisy but that only cause its antique l'm sure. Love the place and staff were lovely too. Breakfast was amazing.
We loved our stay at The Dunstane, the staff were so lovely and welcoming and very helpful, the bedroom was so nice, comfy beds, so many tv channels, shortbread biscuits with the tea and coffee :) Bathroom was so clean, power shower was amazing! Even though it is a little far from the city the bus stop is right outside and we never had to wait more than a minute for a bus, plus the street the hotel is on is so pretty, so many nice houses it was nice to be in a quiet area outside the busy city. The bar had great choice of drinks and the breakfast was great too.
Nothing bad apart from maybe the cooked breakfasts could slightly improve but they were still good can't really fault anything!
Honesty bar was a nice touch
Damp smell in the bathroom
Staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast selection was excellent. Haggis was delicious! When the electricity in our room wasn't working we were immediately moved and upgraded.
Our room (8) was next to the water boiler, whenever anyone had a showered or turned on the tap it made a noise right next to the bed.
The staff were friendly.breakfast was delicious.room was fantastic with Molton Brown products and a nesspresso machine which we were not expecting.
Squeaky front door.we heard it as we were the first room on the ground floor and it was extremely windy.but that's only a minor point as everything else was outstanding.
Good location; just far enough outside centre. Short walk to Princess St.
The staff were instantly welcoming, friendly and walked us to our room on the top floor. Room was stunning. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast exceptional, cooked breakfasts to order. Staff very helpful. Made our stay in Edinburgh easy and special. Hotel was only a 20min walk to centre of Edinburgh or 5min walk to the tram stop down the same road. Very easy. The tram system in Edinburgh is fantastic, runs straight from the airport into the centre every 10mins and the hotel was 5min walk from Haymarket stop. Loved Edinburgh and the hotel was simply gorgeous in every way.
excellent breakfast good service
I was disappointed to be in the townhouse across the street. Not nice when raining and the bedroom seemed an afterthought. Not as I ahd expected from the reviews or the website
The food was fantastic, the staff very friendly and helpful, the room charming and clean.
The location was a bit further away from the historical center of Edinburgh than we would have liked.
Very helpful staff. Excellent food.
Having married at the Dunstane, we returned for our 10 year anniversary. It has been refurbished since then and the ground floor redesigned to squeeze in 3 extra guest rooms, losing the lovely, airy lounge at the front. We love Edinburgh and the hotel is in a nice location, far enough to be out of the hustle and bustle but near enough to walk into the centre. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff pleasant but we felt as though we were sleeping behind a screen in the lobby.
We were delighted to be informed on arrival that we had been given an upgrade. However, in hindsight we’d have preferred a smaller room with a bit more privacy. Our room (19) was only feet away from the reception desk and right beside the toilets and the stairs. There was a large gap under the door so we could hear everything going on in the lobby and conversations of restaurant goers on their way to the toilet, plus guests going upstairs. We were also very aware that if we could hear them, they could hear us just as well – not ideal when you have left the kids with grandparents and booked a romantic weekend away for your anniversary! Presumably, rooms 20 and 21 on the ground floor suffer a similar problem. It seems that the refurbishment has been made with profit in mind, squeezing in as many extra rooms as possible and barely leaving enough space to queue up at reception, and is to the detriment of the comfort of guests. I made all these points on the comments card but have heard nothing back after 2 weeks. Perhaps they’ve heard it all before? Anyway, we won’t be going back.
This hotel has a lovely feel about it made even more special by the friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. The breakfast had a fantastic choice for everyone.
Staff were excellent, great food and service. Facilities were first class as was the room and shower.
A slight draw back was needing to cross the rather busy road for dinner and breakfast for me as an early riser wasn't early enough.
Great place with exceptional staff, very helpful and friendly!! Parking available, great location not far from city centre! Our top choice for when we visit Edinburgh again
location, theme of deco, helpful staff
weekend breakfast was a long wait as not enough staff (though they really worked hard and tried to attend to all the guests). dinner was nice but as creative as described on the website.
