Staff fruendliness and professionalism, comfortable bed, spacious room. Wide range of food available from room service was v useful when travelling with a young baby to avoid having to bring pram / car seat into busy restaurant area. I would stay here again but would perhaps ask for one of the most recently refurbished rooms.
Room was rather hot and temperature difficult to control. Some decor was a little dated although I can't really complain about this much since everywhere was very clean and all facilities were perfectly fit for use. I wonder if both of these issues were because we were in a Riverside room - I got the impression that the other wing of the building might have been more recently refurbished.
On arrival we were greated with a courtesy glass of wine making us feel quite special as it was my husbands birthday . The staff could not do enough for us. We will book again .
Location and facilities
Trying to find the way out of spa back to room
The bed was very comfortable & large.
Overall the hotel is poor for 4* shabby in many places, having to pay for WiFi and then it being tricky to maintain a connection was not good. We are in the restaurant one night, the staff were poor and the food was mediocre & relatively expensive. We won't be returning! Radisson Blu in Durham infinetely better in same star rating category.
A bit on the dear side
WiFi just simply should be free. No paying and having it discounted from your bill.
We regularly stay here when we visit our son at Uni, the reason being the staff are so friendly.
It would be even better if free wifi was available throughout the hotel.
Everything was fine
Someone spotted our anniversary card and we came back to a complimentary bottle of wine in an ice bucket and a greeting. Also the staff were very helpful with mu special dietary needs.
Excellent location for doing everything on foot. Staff always helpful
Reservations about bathroom, though towels & toiletries very good
Loved everything, breakfast and location excellent and pool was very warm
Tapas in the bar a bit bland, leisure club needs upating and too many students in the lobby areas using free wifi in the seating areas
Room too hot, no air conditioning
The finish in the bathroom was around a 2 out of 10 and no were near up to thestandard . The bed wasn't comfy and the pillows were unbearable.
This was our third stay at the Marriott. The hotel is in an excellent location near lots of restaurants - we would recommend Bills restaurant on the high street. Very pretty little city and our room over looked the river which we requested prior to booking. Free access to the spa is great for something to do and we received a complementary glass of wine upon arrival which was a lovely touch.
Unfortunately the room we were allocated (252) was close to the busy road so we didn't get much sleep due to constant traffic all night. The windows are old and do not shut out any noise. Our room was conjoined to the next room by a locked door and we were kept awake by noisy neighbours playing loud music, however we approached reception who promptly sorted this out for us and the noise subsided completely which was great customer service. A couple of faults inside the room (black mark on top of curtain and black stain near bath plug hole). Despite the disappointment this time we would definitely return.
The room was big and clean and the staff are pleasant.
Breakfast food was really bad and we missed out on black pudding/omelettes/poached and fried eggs as our waiter never mentioned the extras and we only found out after hearing other guests being told. Stay away from the scrbled egg too it's far too under cooked and smothered in butter. The hotel bar and restaurant are over priced for the quality that you would expect.
Warmth and comfort
Hotel was was easy to find with adequate on site parking £5 for the night not bad at all. Brilliant location walking distance to centre of durham, room was clean and bed lovely and comfortable !
Room seemed a little cluttered with too many cupboards and desks and the shower in room 305 was more a trickle.
Staff very friendly and breakfast in bed was great, location was excellent too.
Lovely room with river view. King size bed, excellent facilities. Very sorry we were unable to stay longer, will return.
- Excellent location right in the centre of Durham - Really nice swimming pool and jacuzzi, which was warm - Staff very helpful and pleasant - Large, spaceous rooms
- WIFI charged at £12 per day in the rooms - Breakfast costs £16 per day extra - Car park £5 per day - Radiator in our room wouldn't switch off and was very hot. Hotel upgraded us next day, which was appreciated
Liked the location and the siZe of bed
Didn't like the shabbiness of hotel, shower was stupidly slow and just a trickle. Mirrors were in the wrong place. I ordered breakfAst in room - After waiting 40 mins I looked outside the room and noticed my breakfast room service card still hanging! I called room service and told them my card hadnt been collected and was told i would have to wait a further 40 mins. For breakfast. Disappointed they still charged me the tray charge.
Staff, every single one friendly, helpful, going the extra mile very cheerfully; seemed genuinely interested in providing best possible service. Very comfortable bed (not one of those which is simply two zipped singles but a proper king-size).
Paying for wifi.
Leisure Facilities. Breakfast quite good by UK standards. Staff very friendly and helpful. Right in the centre of Durham.
Bar area a bit cheerless.
Friendly staff, very comfortable bed. Good view of the river
Restaurant closed for refurbishment and bar snack option poor. Having to pay for wifi - first time for a very long time Luke-warm 'hot' breakfast
