Very convenient Room spacious
Slightly tired furnishings and fittings
Warm room. Central location. Easy parking (£5 overnight) though expensive during the next day.
Extremely uncomfortable bed - lumpy mattress and hard pillows. The 'coach house' is just a box in the car park with paper thin walls. We could hear every snore & footstep of the guy above us.
Bed was comfy. Staff were friendly.
Bathroom was old and a little tatty. Breakfast wasn't particularly hot and could have been cooked fresh for the price charged.
Staff were friendly, helpful and always concerned to know everything was okay, comfortable beds, breakfast, food in the bar,
Really Friendly Staff very helpful with local information nothing to much trouble
Good location, quiet and handy for the city centre. The staff were very helpful and breakfast was delicious.
Great location, Starbucks in the hotel
Old bathroom, no minibar, no fridge, smell of "old glory" throughout the hotel
Location was convenient - Starbucks close by.
Prefer a stand-alone shower. I do not like being called on my cell phone to give a review of my stay - I received 3 long distance calls and that is unnecessary and borders on harrassment. Do not call my cell phone in future.
Location and parking
Friendliness of the staff Quality of the food
I asked for room with a view for parents as it was a treat for them- didn't get it which I found mean-spirited. in bar given menus for expensive restaurant meals but not bar meals. Only knew this existed when customers at next table ordered from this. Appeared to be deliberate sharp practice by bar staff. Put all the menus on the tables and be open and honest. After paying £490 was charged additional £15 for parking. corporate hotel taking customers for all it can get. Won't stay at another Marriott. Prices do not mirror the experience you get.Found old shaver casing in bath reflecting cleaning standards. There are better and nicer hotels than this around Durham at half the price. breakfast underwhelming. Felt mugged.
The room was really spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was great with a wide selection of hot and cold food.
Excellent Location, Friendly Staff
Room was around £130 for the night, room had marks on the walls, bulbs needed changing and one light fitting appeared damaged, door has marks and furniture was scratched, I can see this would have been beautiful 30+ years ago but about time some real decoration was done.
The room was large, had a lovely view of the river and was a great location for our short stay.
The room was too hot.
Room was cold on arrival till radiators warmed up
Friendly staff, great location.
The bedroom door looked like it came off a skip, so did most of the furniture. The room was last decorated some time mid-last century. The catering was, well, institutional.
Lovely double room overlooking river, very comfortable & clean.
It was well worth the money, but as it isn't a cheap hotel, I was surprised to have to pay for wifi in the room. The public areas were therefore very busy with people using the free wifi!
Great location, some rooms have lovely views
View of the car park from our room and didn't feel the stay represented value for money

The bed was comfy The staff were friendly The facilities in the room The pool and spa
The fact that you didn't get breakfast with the price
Relaxing and enjoyable with a nice breakfast.
Our room was fantastic, massive bed and so comfortable. Hotel was very central and very friendly staff.
