The hotel is located close enough to the city centre to be convenient to everything in Durham. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food better than expected at a hotel. Being along the river is a beautiful setting but revelers across the way were quite noisy late into the night. Also, the heat was on and there was no way to turn it off or down. The room was almost suffocatingly hot.

Great location. Lovely hotel near to centre so great for shopping, Cathedral & Castle. We stayed for visiting son at Uni so perfect Our bedroom was HOT, with no real air conditioning. There was a free standing unit in the room which helped but far from ideal.

excellent location and god overall quality of stay for business Generally staff in restaurant seemed very young and not well trained or supervised. I found the male attendant at breakfast who whistled and sniffed all the time quite unsatisfactory.

Breakfast much improved since last visit. Good size room with two beds. Cleaners not hassling to get into the room. Water in basin in bathroom takes ages to go. No air conditioning - had to open all the windows which made it very noisy. Had to pay £5 for parking in their own car park. No information on the TV channels at all - couldn't even see the name of the program. My wife was hit on the back by the descending barrier in the car park. At checkout, I was charged £32 per night too much and had to print off the booking info from booking.com to get a refund. Booking.com did not pass on my proper reservation -I originally booked 1 night and changed it to 2 but the hotel only had a 1 night reservation.

As we were there for the regatta, the hotel was perfectly situated. River view...perfect. Parts of the buffet breakfast, was poor. I'll fitting uniforms on some staff...though this did not deter from the ability and willingness.

This was a large hotel where I must say that all the staff, from cleaners to cooks, were extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. We were certainly made very welcome. The food was excellent at both dinner and breakfast and the service was very attentive - even with wedding parties and a hen party to cater for - we still felt looked after by the staff. Could not fault this relaxed and professionally run hotel.

Staff were nice The hotel itself is in a delapidated state. I don't think it has had any modernisation since it opened. I have heard a hotel is opening up opposite and if The Marriott wants to stay in business they are going to have to invest serious money to compete. I only stay there because it is super convenient for visiting my daughter at uni .

Really comfortable beds, lovely view looking over the river, nice and close to centre of town, lovely breakfast. Rooms were very hot, aircon feature was turned off only heating available. It said aircon is only activated in summer, but it was the 3rd of June and 20c so I don't see why it wasnt on.

The river view room 153 with a huge bed. The leisure facilities were very relaxing. The hotel is within minutes of all the nice things to see in Durham. Durham is much more relaxing than York. You can enjoy a few drinks without being asked to move on for laughing too loud. The Marriot County is much better than the Marriot at Gosforth park, and at half the price. Loved our stay here. Thank you to everyone at the Marriot County hotel Durham. Not enough refreshments (coffee milk etc) in the room but being petty really as it didn`t spoil our one night stay.
