Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County  

Heating in the room was oppressive and uncontrollable. Having the windiw open during the day was fairly noisey. Breakfast was steamed.

Only stayed one night but was more than adequate for purpose - good breakfast - enjoyed stay.

It's an old, classy hotel in the heart of Durham. It has a good restaurant, bar, parking, internet etc.

What's not to like?

An English gentleman greeted us at reception, very refreshing!

For us this hotel ticked all the boxes for what we required which was two nights accommodation. Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything worked, a rarity it seems to me. Properly controllable air conditioning. That has to be a first!! Excellent breakfast selection and plenty of staff on hand. Didn't use the restaurant so cannot comment.

Not having designated car spaces for visitors. Not having a separate shower cubicle.

When my room wasn't available I was immediately upgraded to a suite.

Welcome drink and nibbles on first evening. Excellent, friendly staff.

Internet only available in public areas.

Having to queue for 25mins for breakfast on the sunday morning

Location is fantastic, easy two minute walk into the centre of Durham. Great leisure facilities.

Que for breakfast on Sunday morning, service in dining room rather slow.

Staff really friendly. Beds comfortable. Room a good size. Location great. Great river view. Beauty salon great with availability. Leisure centre reallly nice with cafe.

Radiator on 24hrs a day - hot. Had window open and a fan on all the time. Lift tended to close on you.

Excellent comfortable beds, good size room and good bathroom facilities

Total chaos at breakfast time with staff and guests rushing to find what they needed for breakfast. Had to queue for half an hour before being allowed into breakfast room. Buffet style breakfast badly designed and even a health & safety risk. Had to wait to have egg fried by which time other items had become cold. Can understand buffet for cereals, fruit juice etc. but hot meals should be served by staff.

Good service, very comfortable.

We have been stung for £100 parking fee. I gave my car details to reception on arrival but didn't park overnight as my sister took the car away. She came to collect us next day, stayed 30 mins and we have been sent a parking fine. we will appeal but please be careful.

Lovely room excellent breakfast location

When we checked in, the receptionist added £50 to the cost of the room with no explanation. After we questioned it, she explained that it was to cover anything we spent. I think the staff should explain before adding such charges - this is simple customer service.

Location is few steps from Durham Center and Market. Good amentities. Good welcoming and prompt response to taxi requests.

would be great if they had free interent in rooms as well. Not much selection in 24 hrs food menue but staff did their best to deliver.

We thought the hotel bar was desperately in need of refurb it was dark tired and in welcoming

Friendliness of ALL the staff plus a great location and nice food

Cost of internet per hour was outrageous and totally unnecessary. Also, family were meeting us at the hotel, but as there was a wedding on, there were no seats in the bar for paying residents to use. We had to go to a bar in the town. This was VERY bad and we have never experienced this before at a 3 star hotel let alone a 4 star! Needs to be addressed.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful with suggestions for where to eat, go out etc. One of our party had a blocked sink which was promptly fixed when it was reported

Pretty much everything but the staff in particular were outstanding. They were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They really made a difference to the whole trip. The food and attention to detail was very good. Fantastic breakfast. Thank you so much for making the stay so pleasurable
