Dining room lacking in atmosphere. The all round experience was expensive but not luxury.
Friendliness of hotel staff and great breakfast.
Very over heated room
We'd come to Durham to visit our son who's just started at the uni, so we wanted somewhere central to stay so that we wouldn't have to use the car once we'd arrived. Our room was lovely, with a view over the river, and the bed was extremely comfortable and enormous!
The heating seemed to be on full blast and we couldn't work our how to turn it down, and the window only opened a couple of inches, so we had to keep the fan on all night.
The only negative was that we were near a fire door. Rather noisy from about 5am.
Had to queue for breakfast Were late as we didn't get our wake up call Really not worth the high price
Location. Nice room. Bathroom fine. Big comfy bed.
Price Only 1 very small lift for whole hotel. Breakfast very expensive but nice cafe over the road does excellent breakfast at a fraction of the price!
*Comfortable beds, although very soft pillows *Good location for the cathedral *Large enough room
*The £15 cost of a breakfast for a 14 yr old that only wanted a bowl of cereal *The bath was clean but in a poor state of repair and the bathroom door would not lock. *Although you pay additionally for the car park it covers you for your visit, but as limited spaces, you can't guarantee getting a space when you return *Newspapers are not complimentary and when the bill arrived a £1 donation to charity had been automatically added
Easy to access where we wanted to see in Durham
Menu choice did not suit me in the evening. Having to pay for parking Having to pay for breakfast separately. I was charged 2 different rates for the 2 different days when we both ate the same each day
The pool and facilities were good. Very relaxing atmosphere.
Breakfast on a busy Saturday was a frantic affair. The cooking of eggs and omelettes resulted in smoke filled room. Staff rushing around resulted in a tense atmosphere.
Staff were friendly and helpful and opening times of leisure facilities were good. Bed was totally comfortable!
The room was a little dated and expensive for what it was. The sauna needed some attention as well as the 'fun shower' which was broken.
Excellent breakfast. Near transport and city centre.
A bit pricy, especially dining room. Lift out of order.
the location. breakfast
the facility is too old.
It is conveniently in the centre of town and has parking, though a bit of a squeeze. It was clean and functional.
It is all a bit tired. The bathroom and paintwork could have done with a spruce up and the shower leaked all over the floor. The main cabinet surface in the room was badly water stained. It was fine, but nothing special. We had our engagement party there 30 years ago when it really was the best hotel in town. The refit of the bar area is souless, so there is no atmosphere. More sofas and cosiness needed. You would not want to linger there now.
Location very handy for everything
Very friendly staff with good food.
perfect location, excellent breakfast and a very good size swimming pool
getting lost within the hotel
Excellent location, very helpful staff
Breakfast not included and very expensive. Bathrooms dated and poor showers.
Evening meal Bar meal
Miss Trunchbull (dining room supervisor) at breakfast Breakfast - a shambles in organisation, layout and quality of food Bedroom - a/c only worked on one speed - bed awful - noisy A hotel that needs to consider whether it's a pleasant provincial hotel as it used to be or an offshoot of a corporate organisation that will send it the way of the adjacent and abandoned Three Tuns
Service from reception
Cracked sink in the bathroom
Charge for parking. Charge for wi-fi. Asked to find my Marriott account number and assured it would be done. Failed to do so and failed to add Marriott points to my account.
Very tired hotel Long walk to room
Clean, efficient and comfortable in a great location.
The very kind reception staff. The lovely view over the river.
Loved spa,breakfast and room facilities
All of us slept badly as the rooms above or the noise from the corridor kept us awake .
